  • I review the 2013 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 GT Coupe. This car is running an Ark Performance Exhaust System along with the other modifications listed in the video. Also, the fender liner has now been removed! Huge thanks to Matt for driving to Pittsburgh to allow me to do the review! Which would you rather have, the 2.0T model or this 3.8 V6?

    I just drove a 2.0T and a 3.8 today. The turbo has a nice dramatic jump around 2500rpm and then flats at 4000 which is nice and sounds pretty, but the 3.8 was made for the car. It doesn't hesitate and makes the car seem lighter than an FRS. Steering isn't nearly as intuitive as the FRS, but overall a much more fun car to drive. Which is why I came home with the 3.8 today

    my 2013 is this color and trim. Mine is stock. I have no plans to do anything to it. I feel that the Genesis coupe has a lot going for it to be a future sought after classic. Given their low production numbers (58, 000 total for all years), style, reliability and strong following are all good indicators.

    Automatics are just as fast if not faster than manuals in new cars nowadays. Look at the new zo6 for example. The 8speed automatic gets better times.

      DynamiteDupree C'mon son you're talking about the limiting case here. People who buy these cars and daily drive them look for driving experience, engagement, and that sense of driving a car and doing it right (best provided with a manual gearbox)... not just features that'll get them locked up and their license revoked. People that just care about speed are a menace on the road and present a danger to themselves and everyone else.

    • @DRDRADR4
      @DRDRADR4 9 лет назад +8

      DynamiteDupree Its a pointless argument. Its manual fanboyism really. They get extremely defensive if you choose to drive with an auto tranny. I don't get why. I understand why a different person would want the manual, why can't they respect me getting an automatic. If there wasn't a demand for it in the sports cars, the manufacturers wouldn't make them.

    I bought a 2013 Genesis 2.0T and I love it. Its been tuned and I'm sure it has a little over 300hp now. I always wondered what the driving experience is for the 3.8 compared to a tuned 2.0T. Acceleration and rpm torque differences. I considered looking into a 2013 or 2014 3.8 but it must be Track trim.

      HotMetal524 I agree with you. I personally despise Korean cars and would never consider them for a second. Why people would choose to buy a sports car from a Korean manufacturer is beyond me. Just their brand value puts them towards the bottom of the pile.

    actually this has 348 stock if you can read
    Edmunds said...
    "Many car buffs like to wax nostalgic about the old days, but perhaps they haven't been following the latest news. After all, there are enough exciting new sport coupes on the market to quicken any driving enthusiast's pulse. The 2015 Hyundai Genesis Coupe may seem like an unlikely example, but this rear-wheel-drive sports coupe now has a standard 348-horsepower V6 engine, putting it on par with pricier performance cars. Combine that impressive output with responsive handling and a modest curb weight, and you have a recipe for the kind of good clean fun that some believe to be a thing of the past."

      ***** No, you are right. I did have the 1st gen, and I did talk quite a bit of shit about it. I look back at it though, and it probably wasn't warranted in most cases. Was just a bit upset with it. I have talked to several people since than who have owned, driven or looked at the 2013+, and they all say they are much better cars. I would hope to one day drive a 2013+. The front end grew on me quite a bit recently, I no longer think of it to be horribly ugly. Kind of what happen with the 2015 WRX/STI. Thought they were awful when they came out, saw one in person, and now I own one.

    • @MrGovenator1
      @MrGovenator1 9 лет назад

      choi7 Yeah, going on 3 weeks of ownership, and its been great. The power delivery is totally different than the Genesis. The Genesis is smooth all the way to redline. The WRX kicks you in the butt at about 3,000, and power starts to drop off after about 5,000 (Silly stock conservative tune). The transmission is probably the best part though over the Genesis. Its so much smoother, and much more forgiving. It feels just as fast though even with having less power. It might be slightly slower technically (I can't really tell), but the gas millage is a bit better, and having the much better interior makes it all worth it.

    Hey Subaruwrxfan. I'm planning on buying the 2.0T version. I've seen your 2.0T video a few times then i decided to go drive one and man i had some fun. But what do you think? should i save more and get the 3.8? I kinda of like the 2.0T because how it feels with the turbo. Its just feels weird when i slow down and the turbo basically cuts off. I feel like my butt is dragging the ground. Do you think i should drive the 3.8 to get the feel of that car? Or stay with getting the 2.0T?

      @finalzman1 8 лет назад

      +onebigbamf Having owned a 2014 2.0T R-Spec, and now owning a 2014 3.8 Ultimate, I'd say it's up to you on what you're looking for in a car. The 2.0T has a lot more options aftermarket since it's already turboed, and with a tune you can get really good power from the turbo throughout the powerband, but the 3.8 is just so linear and powerful at stock. I remember when I first drove the 3.8 I was so amazed with the power it could throw down. Only downside for the 3.8 is that you can only do basic bolt-ons for power mods or you can turbo it for like 5-6k...

      348 stock not hard to gain 60 hp with a tune and bolt ons this is 2013 not 2012 that's the one that came 333 stock

    • @ericleeSupSayK
      @ericleeSupSayK 8 лет назад

      +Wayne Junior these v6 are also running at peak capacity so 60 hp is asking for a lot even with tune. Accept the fact that these engine will be expensive to mod with shitty gains. This applies to my g37 engine as well. Same shit.

      +letsroll 5 grand for turbo set up. Doubt it try 10. Not a lot of ppl have 5-10k laying around to mod their car especially when ur buying a Hyundai to begin with. Does it look like Hyundai buyers r made of money lol

    This is a good review, however the car already has too many mods for my liking. I have a GC and it's a great car but reviewing a car with tunes and mods isn't a good impression of how the car actually feels and drives like when you take it off the lot.

    Ooo....I really like how the tires and rims sit nicely under the body, not too much not to little. I really like the look of the first gen Genesis a lot more but this 2nd gen is growing on me. The steering wheels needs improvement it looks a little lumpy, I'd wrap it with alcantara. Nice review.

    If I wanted a small rwd sports car and I was afraid to get a manual because of quality issues, I think I would look at getting another car. But that's just my personal opinion. I just like actual art and science and fun of driving a manual sports car.

    The cup holders in the manual are not usable. If you have a bottle of water placed in, it will impede your shifting. I keep my bottled water in the door pocket and just put smaller stuff in the cup holder.

    Did you disengaged traction and stability control? When both are disengage then car has no problem braking tires loose around the corner if you go WOT with wide tires.
    Yes V6 is much better due to its lenear power and no turbo lag. NO V6 engine only weight 80lb more then 4 cylinde turbo.
    With those modifications Genesis v6 puts down 320whp. If you want more - there is turbo kit awailable, 450whp at 8psi - N/A power is more then enough to enjoy the car.

    +Street Speed 717 ya I mean I knew it wouldn't have the aftermarket of the mustang, I guess I just expected more for a car like this, and what parts you can find for it that would actually make any significant gain in power the prices are through the roof on this stuff. I had also looked at the 2015 WRX and even it has slightly more aftermarket than this, and that engine in that car came out a year ago. This basically has intake, exhuast, tune (if you have the logistics to ship your car to one of two places that tune these), and maybe long tubes if you want to pay $1500 for them.
