My wife once made the mistake of buying gap insurance on a new Honda. Sure enough, it got totaled (not her fault), and we could never get the gap insurance company to give us anything but excuses, and they basically said, “You’ll have to sue us to get us to pay.” We did, but our lawyer collected a third of the settlement, which didn’t cover the full amount of the gap to begin with. One transaction, and we got screwed by the dealership, the gap insurance company, and our own lawyer. They’re all crooks.
I always get gap through my insurance company allstate etc only needed it once when I totaled a car and it worked out was well worth the extra 10 bucks I paid a month

I was ready last week to purchase a new car, but after watching all your videos and knowing that I would be sitting there with someone shoving all that stuff on me when buying a new car is supposed to be a wonderful experience in my past of course every car I bought newI can’t say the salesman were always happy with me. OK they were never happy with me because I was informed but now I don’t even know if I want a new car I can’t go through this.
Every time I buy a car, they say I'm crazy for not buying gap insurance. I then tell them I drive 2,000 miles a year and they're crazy for trying to sell me protection packages lol, I win every time with that simple line.
Well unless your putting a lot down you should be getting GAP. HOWEVER, you should NOT be getting it from the dealership. Your insurance company will give it to you cheaper AND be easier to deal with. Accidents can be out of your control and you don't wanna be upside down lol
@@jacobkummer2067 Here's a helpful formula for you: Don't buy cars that cost more than what you make in 6 months. 40k a year? 20k car 60k a year? 30k car You shouldn't have to insure 6 months pay lol
@@RUclipsparolee You don't have to overpay - agree on miles though. If say you bought a 55k car, it actually costs about 60k to purchase. Then when you drive it off the lot, it depreciates 10-20% - lets say 15%. That means your 55k is now worth a little under 47k. So if you put less than 13k down, you should get GAP. And MOST people are putting less than that down. In other words, if your putting less than 25% down - you likely need GAP.
I sell cars in Maine. If I sell a car newer than 4 years old, I STRONGLY encourage my customers to consider the undercoating that has an 8 year warranty. I see so many BEAUTIFUL vehicles come in as trades, that are essentially refused, because the underside of the vehicle looks like it's been sitting in the ocean since it rolled off the truck at mile 1. I also encourage folks to at least consider the wrap coverage. Ours has no deductible and covers a customer for nearly anything (no, not new wiper blades!) for essentially the duration of their loan. Usually (obv. vehicle and mileage dependent) it increases their monthly payment less than $50.... for never having to worry about repairs. Gap - check with your insurance company - you most likely already have gap. If not, it's probably cheaper to add to your existing coverage. Wear care, scratch N dent, wheel/tire, ect... really not necessary unless you're VERY hard on vehicles and absolutely intend on trading in and expect an agressive value in 3 or 4 years. None of it is for everybody, but in the rust belt... why wouldn't you get undercoating with an 8 year warranty? If you're strapped for cash like so many folks are and your vehicle dictates your ability to get to work (that's rural maine for ya!) why wouldn't you want to spend an extra $1k a year to guarantee that even if there's an issue, you get a free rental until it's fixed? That's my position on the whole thing..... and I'm flat rate salary. I make no more/no less if I do or don't sell any of these products.
Also to build on this, we only suggest the products and explain them if asked. Essentally we offer once. After that it doesn't come up again unless our customer brings it up. I wouldn't offer wrap coverage on a new vehicle - it's already under a B2B warranty for the first 3 years (typically) and a powertrain for the first 5 years (typically). But on used vehicles? Every time I bring it up. Especially if the vehicle has over 40K miles. I also suggest undercoating on anything that rolls out, pointing out how fast stuff rots away without some form of protection. If my customer suggests they don't want the undercoating, I remind them that there's other options - not nearly the same warranty, but a similar level of physical protection - woolwax, fluid film or other annual treatments that can significantly reduce the rusting of a vehicle. Any vehicle is a depreciating asset - why wouldn't you want to do what you could to slow that depreciation down as much as possible!? Especially if it's only $1,200 spread out over 5 years?
I've considered some deals they offer especially on used cars. I agree on the gap mine is so much more affordable through allstate on my vehicle. Turns out I did have to use it after 2 yrs.
It's funny when a sales/finance person calls the car an _investment_ No, it's a depreciating asset. It's hypocritical when you're buying a Toyota the sales person is touting how bulletproof their cars are but the moment you're with the finance person they scare you into believing you're buying a lemon.
Bought a 2014 Prius V in April. The way I got out of all this crap... was to write a check for the asking price, sales tax, and one state mandated fee. You give dealerships no legs to stand on when you simply, pay, cash!
@carlapeterson5056 Not sure I follow. I dont doubt thete's a video on the topic, but doing it my way (paying cash) I leveraged 6 grand off the purchase price by saying no to add on's mandatory when financing, and negotiated my monthly payment to $0.
Ah yes, the upsell! They pulled this stunt on me when I bought my car in 2020. The saleswoman kept calling me "queen" and "my sister" as if I was going to fall for that because we were both Black (LOL!). No way was I going to pay $3,000 or $1200 dollars for the "protection packages" she was trying to sell me.
Bought a $31,000 (otd includes tax, fees) Toyota Camry two weeks ago. The "premium" packaged was $12,456. lol. 42% of the sticker price. Hard no from me.
Almost same experience here. I bought Camry SE with $34,000 (OTD). I had a little interest of windshield protection, but the guy never told me its price but added up something and making his own packages. Thanks to him, even a little interest had completely disappeared.
I had a 21 4Runner TRD OR. And after the manufacturer warranty expired I keep adding up miles for work a and commute I put a total of 100k in about 4 years, the car needed around $4000 plus worth of repairs, all covered by the extended warranty. Yes. Moral of the story. They still cars and cars will brake regardless the model or the brand. Among the repairs, Engine bay oil leak, ($3,690) plus labor and fees, Door lock ($260) plus labor and fees, A/C fan blower (300) plus and plus. From at the time a brand new Toyota 4Runner. 😅
Ray was WAY less aggressive than most finance managers I have dealt with. They usually go to great lengths to try to scare you into buying the packages, and they even act like only a fool would refuse the coverage.
That's why you have to take charge first. The minute they start talking about the packages just say "We are not interested and won't be taking any of that stuff." If/when they persist, just talk over him. "No, Skip it. We are not interested. "
The extended warranty.... They NEVER show you what items are EXCLUDED! They always makes it sound like EVERYTHING is going to be covered, but trust me, it is NOT!!!
Thank you guys for all of these entertaining and very informative videos. Your channel is my new favorite RUclips channel. I’ve gone back and watched at least 12 of your previous videos already. Although I’m not quite ready to buy my next car, I’m enjoying learning some of these methods, especially since when I bought my current car in the spring of 2021, I did not enjoy the dealership experience at all.
Thank you for publishing such great content for car buyers. I'm an admittedly biased commentor because I work selling products to car dealerships. But, regardless of my bias, I'm curious if you've ever considered a video focused around buyer advice to avoid large trimline packages and have the dealer directly add individual items that may be important to the buyer, but are only available in extensive packages from the OEM. Things like leather seats or cooled seats (my bias), remote start, audio upgrades, sunroofs, etc... I think a lot of buyers pay a lot more for their vehicles because they don't realize that they can add many of the $10K trimline upgrades independently and potentially save a ton of $$$. Thanks again for your great work!
We appreciate your insight, and we’ll definitely consider covering this topic in a future video. Thanks again for your support and for sharing your expertise! 😊
@@charlotteyork7074 Do a price comparison. Through your insurance it should be under $10 a month. Some dealer GAP insurance companies are scumbags when you try & cancel. Also consider windshield coverage. If your lane centering camera is behind your windshield that calibration is in the 100's of dollars.
I just sat there and said no no no no no no to the finance manager. I used the "I'm only pre-approved for X" (which was partially a lie the credit union told me I could get approved for more) and as for the extended warranty, I told them "I'm buying a Honda, why do I want an extended warranty?" For the maintenance, I told them it was stupid to finance that into the car and pay interest on it when I can put it the money into a savings or other account and earn interest on it until I have to pay for the actual service. I paid for the gap insurance with my regular insurance company for the first year. I never needed it. This guy hated me by the time I signed the papers.
I just went through this with a CDJR dealership in NJ. After managing to negotiate the cost of the vehicle down substantially, and then declining the extras in the f&i office, the guy called in his manager and his boss decided to break the deal after getting as far as signing the registration paperwork and being there almost 4 hours. It sucked
My view on extended warranties, finance office upsells, etc. If companies/dealerships were losing money on them, they wouldn't be pushing so hard to sell them.
This went very much like when I got my new car at a BMW dealership in March of this year. The finance manager had a sheet that looked very much like the one Ray has in the video and went through all the different packages. Of course, he was more aggressive than Ray was, but not rudely so. I counted in my head - he tried three times to convince me that I should get some of these things, but sadly for him I declined them all. The funny part was that the finance manager was training a new employee, and he was in the room with us the whole time. He was obviously much younger and newer to the business and I could see the uncomfortable look on his face when the finance manager was trying to push these products on me even though I kept saying that I'm not interested in them. I think the trainee will have to toughen up quite a bit if he wants to keep this job, or find another role withing the dealership. LOL
Same thing happened to me. The worst part was how he went from friendly, smiley salesman to a complete jerk when I wouldn't buy any of it. I was polite the whole time and he still got rude. It was funny and weird at the same time
I just bought a cpo toyota sienna and i flipped the script on the salesman and interrupted him constantly during his explanation of ceritifed preoqned certification and reconditioning fees. I told him if im buying a bruger listed for 2 bucks and then get my bill and the bun, meat, and ketchup are 20 cents extra each then im not buying a 2 buck burger. Got him frazzled and got all the extra fees removed and a grand off the list price. My wife told me it seemed like i was bullying him. I said, yep and then after i saved us the $4,500 extra they tried to get from us he and i talked about football for the 30 minute wait for the finance guy. Put on your gameface, be a dick, and save as much money as you can
75,000K / 5,000 Miles = 15. $3400 / 15 = $226 those are some expensive oil changes. Many vehicles don't call for a transmission service until 100K miles.
I went with my ex daughter in law 5 years ago to help with her new car purchase. When we were in with the finance manager and I told him to add gap insurance to the deal. Thank goodness I had her get it. 6 months later a driver ran a red light and T boned my daughter in law and my granddaughter. They were both okay just some bumps and bruises. My daughter in law was freaking out later that day because she was going to have to pay for a car that was totaled and somehow get a new car. I told her calm down and relax I had you get gap insurance. Mind you this vehicle was financed through a credit union so I do not know if that makes a difference but the gap insurance paid the car off within 10 days. The credit union then gave her a very low interest rate on a new loan and she was able to purchase a car with a lower interest rate than the first loan.
They tried to sell me an extended warranty when I bought my Jeep back in 1988. I said no, thanks and that was the end of it. I bought my '98 4Runner used and had no buying hassles whatsoever.
I purchased gap insurance as part of my normal auto insurance policy. It wasn't very expensive I want to say less than $75 every 6 months. I always decline everything in the Finance office - it's always the worst part of the buying process. I had a Honda extended warranty that was purchased by my parents when they bought a new Odyssey and it was transferred to me when I bought it from them. It was good for 8 years and it never had a need for any repairs that would have been covered. Even my 2005 Chrysler 300C, which I didn't have an extended warranty on and wasn't the most reliable car, didn't develop problems that would have been covered until it was beyond the extended warranty period. Extended warranties are pretty much pure profit. I always just say that I'm getting the vehicle because of the reliability, but if it proves not to be during the normal warranty period, I'll sell it and get something else.
OMG, you brought back a BAD memory about how a dealer fleeced me out of $3000. She knew that I really wanted the car and I had traveled a long way just to get to the dealer. They said that my car was being detailed. What a crock of garbage.
I just purchased a new RAV4 and went through the same exact scenario. The finance person tried to upsell everything. I kept telling him not interested and he continued trying to upsell. I finally got pissed and looked at him and said what part of no don't you understand,is there a problem or are you the problem? He shut up and printed the contract and I was on my way....
I suspect that most car thieves know where to look for the Lojack device and Lojack will track the car to a garbage can at a gas station. I'd rather support my local independent shop that services our vehicles more than I would the dealership. I'd use the dealer for warranty work, but that's it. We bought an extended warranty on our 2015 Forester. I suppose it worked out as the whole nav system had to be replaced when the blutooth died after the mfr's warranty expired (and a new nav system would have cost more than what the extended warranty did). However, the nav system was/is pretty crappy and I probably wouldn't have had it replaced on my own dime.
I want crank up windows, I want a bench seat, I DON'T want a touch screen. O' you don't have any vehicles with those options? Well for those reasons " I'm out "
and a spare tire with jack and I don't want the engine to turn itself off at red lights. I'd like to have 5 minutes alone with the dumb sob that thinks touch screens are good.
I just traded my car for a 15 Cadillac with 63k miles. I declined the extended warranty as it was 4600 for protection for just 2 yrs! But i got the gap for 895. He actually advised me to cancel it after 2 yrs. But I'm thinking of cancelling it now as i don't drive much. But I've had a car totaled luckily it was worth more than what i paid.
Here is how I bypassed this conversation: Say you will pay F&I products with a credit card. That will make em show you the full price of this BS in case you want it. After that is hard for them to pitch anything because prices are so high. I am surprised he didnt add tire and wheel
I purchased a Mercedes C300 (and the extended warranty), after a year and 1/2, I had only put 4000 miles on the car so I decided to sell. Got an offer I couldn’t refuse but before I sold it, contacted the dealer and got a full refund on my unused warranty.
That would mean putting 20% down roughly. Thats not in the cards for everyone. It also doesn't mean you can't afford it. Plus GAP is so relatively cheap it's not ludicrous. Plus prior to these higher interest rates, if you had a low rate, it made sense to put barely anything down, finance and do something else with that pile of cash
Does insurance in the U.S. not include a Waiver of Depreciation endorsement for new vehicles where the insurance company will pay replacement cost (as opposed to market value) for the first 3-5 years (depending on the coverage they offer). This is offered in Canada and is a great endorsement.
i worked at car dealer when bought a pre-owned car, got an extended warranty bumper to bumper for 6 years/ 100k mi. Yeah.... It ended up being an extra 6K on the loan. Luckily when I sold the car I got half back but my god was it a fight. That is the #1 call we get at dealerships = customers trying to speak with finance to cancel a warranty
I'm really getting a lot of knowledge listening to your videos for the past two days. I'm an Uber driver, and would it be beneficial for me to get that gap insurance? Virginia drivers around here are so crazy here in hampton roads. Also, service contract that they offer. I normally take my car in every month to be serviced because I drive about 5000 miles a month. So would it be beneficial for me to get that thing that you're talking about that? They offer about service maintenance or just not purchased that ahead of time. Because I would out drive that service contract?
Thanks! There’s usually some room to negotiate on manufacturer extended warranty plans. Dealers want to sell them, so don’t hesitate to push for a better deal or shop around for comparisons.
Watching this video gives me PTSD. I hate when the car salesman exaggerate how great the car is to make you feel good about the purchase. I hate when the finance office exaggerate how much you need those dumb protection packages. I hate how the car dealers bring up the protection packages after you already negotiated the cost of the car and the amount of your monthly payments, only for the monthly payment to increase higher with the addition of the protection packages.
GAP coverage offered by the bank is often more straightforward and can be less expensive than what dealerships offer. It’s definitely worth comparing the cost and terms with what the dealer is offering to make sure you're getting the best deal.
One thing that is honest by the finance guy is he needs to make you aware of the availability. Yes, he's selling but I cam tell you lawyers will eat it up if there wasn't a written proof that the dealer offered and customer declined. Same with service department.
How do I get out of handling and freight when they work it into the MSRP?? They won’t budge on the price even though MSRP is lower than what are offering me. And it’s not on my invoice
Im definitely getting dent protection on my next car. I have so many parking lot door dings on my car it’s ridiculous. People have no respect for other peoples vehicles anymore. Twice I was sitting in my car when they hit it. They got quite the ass chewing
I just bought a 2024 Toyota RAV4 after secured the price walked into the finance office, told him paying cash and don't want any of the upsell so don't waste your time. Signed sales contract paid and drove off.
I bought a new car last year, I got this speel I asked if I could think on it and come back in a few days, I was told no, Because then it would be considered a used car, So I said ok, and turned it down
Check with your insurance provider on gap. I have gap on my insurance & I just left it there so whenever I buy a vehicle I don't need gap from dealership it's on my insurance already
I think normally you don't need to buy it from the dealer. At least in my case I included it on my normal auto insurance policy for a much lower price. It's also much more flexible as you can just remove it from your policy when it no longer makes sense.
This is awesome. A $1250 payment on a 4Runner is insane. Adding another $225 per month is even worse. I just bought a used 2016 Lexus GX, single owner, 100K. Bought a 3 year warranty from my credit union with a $500 deductible. Nothing else. The auto industry has priced itself out of relevance. These products make it worse. I can pay cash for a 2024 GX without blinking but the value proposition is just awful. If you can, buy a used 2015-2021 Subaru (I own two) or Lexus and drive until wheels fall off.
Just say no up front and that you only want the car and that's it. Save the sales pitch. It's not that hard. People are so worried about being rude but just stop him in his speech, say no, and ask to move on.
Ray, I was looking at the new Toyota RAV4. They all have a "Delivery, Processing and Handling Fee" of $1,350. It's on the window sticker and added to the MSRP for a Total Suggested Retail Price. I have no familiarity with Toyota. Is that Toyota's version of the vehicle destination charge? The "process and handling" is what's throwing me off. If it's the same, am I correct that the fee is non-negotiable? Thanks so much for the clarification!
Yes, it is Toyota's version of the destination charge and it is part of the vehicle's total MSRP or for Toyota their Total Suggested Retail price. And you are correct it is not negotiable. All the best, Ray
so glad you asked this. I'm also looking at a new Rav4 (Hybrid) and was wondering the same thing. Based on other videos, I thought it was negotiable. Good to know it's not.
@vanessameier3047 You're welcome, Vanessa. Ray and Zach have been very helpful. My other concern is the packages added to the vehicle by the manufacturer. Many contain items that I don't want. So, the question is, are you willing to pay for what you didn't ask for? Wish we could compare notes. I'm looking in CT, but no doubt the issues are the same everywhere.
@@thomasc4777 I'm in New Mexico, After a few weeks of waiting, I finally reserved one that should be here in about a month. I had every dealership in the state and in neighboring states let me know when they had one coming in. They all had a ridiculous amount of add-ons. Then two came up - one with no add-ons out Colorado, and one with just a few that's a few hours away but still in New Mexico. I wanted the JBL so I opted for the one that had a few extras but not the full menu. But not sure I'll be able to negotiate anything since they are in such high demand and the wait list is long. If I threaten to walk they will gladly move to the next person. I feel like you are forced to reserve one so far in advance that they basically have you once it arrives. Been watching all of these videos to prepare myself though.
Now what they do is say "if you want to use your own financing, you can't pick up the car until we get paid." And then they take three weeks to pay off your trade.
Really? I have never had that pulled on me. The answer to that is "Oh, okay, it's been nice talking to you, maybe we can do business some time in the future." Then stand up and walk out.
I know in a previous video you mention about getting a deal done on a new car before mentioning that you have a trade in. I have a trade in with a couple thousand dollars in negative equity. I am going next weekend to purchase a new truck, should I still wait to mention my trade in until I get a deal done on the new truck, or in this instance should I mention the trade in?
It's still a good strategy to negotiate the deal on the new truck first before mentioning your trade-in, even with negative equity. This way, you can focus on getting the best price for the new truck without the trade-in complicating things. If you need help negotiating and getting the best deal, visit caredge.com/concierge

Ordering a truck can feel like it limits your bargaining power, but you still have room to negotiate, especially since you’re paying cash. Dealers might be more flexible on price or throw in extras to secure the sale. Glad you're finding the channel helpful-stay tuned for more tips, and good luck with your truck purchase!
$1485, that's not a car payment, that's a mortgage. Protect my investment? I'd fire that financial advisor who advised me to finance and pay interest on a rapidly depreciating investment.
Im somewhat confused when watching this gentleman’s videos. For several decades he worked at a dealership and Im sure made his income by using the same sells tactics he’s trying to warn buyers today. Now that he’s no longer in the game and getting his retirement check, 401k and SS check he’s found another source of income by warning us to look out for dealers and salesmen like him, who do what he used to do. I wonder if he still has his old contact list to reach out to all those customers who over paid for the cars he sold with all the BS fees and the over finance charges. Will he locate them and give them a refund or just say “oh well” it takes one to know one!
Alright buddy there’s no need to contact them to refund them tf?🤣 yes he most likely did all this and there’s videos where he HAS said he trained ppl to do use certain tactics. But now he’s telling us (the buyers) to look out for all this crap. So yes takes one to know one essentially.

Covid cars… nobody ever talks about the cars that sat in fields for years before they received the chips to make them run. Do you think it’s a good idea to buy a car through the years of Covid and if you do, shouldn’t there be a substantial discount?
Hello I have question hopefully someone can help with . when shopping for a new car and looking into the build options like wheels package , panoramic sunroof and tow packages etc. can I negotiate prices on those? Also can I ask to pay for those options separately so that it’s not included in the finance loan ? That would be much cheaper in the long run correct ?
Great questions! Yes, you can often negotiate the prices on build options like wheels, sunroofs, and tow packages. Dealerships may be willing to offer discounts on these add-ons. As for paying separately, you can ask, but it's up to the dealer. It's worth discussing with the dealer to see what flexibility they offer!
The only things at a car dealership you cannot negotiate are the state mandated fees and taxes. Those state mandated fees do not include any fee which is included in the taxable amount. If the fee is included in the taxable amount it is a fake fee and is just part of the price. Price includes all dealer costs including any cost associated with documents or processing.
If you have the time, inclination, space, & desire, then learn how to do your own oil change and visual inspection. Ask for recommendations for a good independent mechanic. Regardless, ask people for mechanic recommendations. I'd rather pay more to an independent mechanic for all the basic stuff. The low man on the totem pole is going to be doing oil changes on your car at a dealership and they are more likely to cut corners. Dealership for warranty claims & and recalls.

Just bought a new Camry last week, and the finance manager tried telling me 3 different ways how my hybrid battery could fail within 50K miles 😂
Bought a 2014 Prius V in April. The way I got out of all this crap... was to write a check for the asking price, sales tax, and one state mandated fee. You give dealerships no legs to stand on when you simply, pay, cash!
There’s No Such thing as a Used Car factory !!
That's how I buy a car every time. I just say, "here's my check. I gotta go." Then I get up and leave. I am woman, hear me roar.
They have a video on why paying cash up front is a really bad idea and how you lose all your leveraging power. Y'all should check them out
@carlapeterson5056 Not sure I follow.
You go girl, you are the woman.
The way you all portrayed this, I have experienced every single time I have purchased a car. I always felt like it was a “bait & switch” technique.
Just my thought. 3-yr, 36k mile warranties seem like manufacturers arent confident in vehicle longevity
They do that to tell you the extended service contracts.
It's just cost savings for them. Hyundai Kia offer a 10/100k warranty and their cars are not good
Bought a $31,000 (otd includes tax, fees) Toyota Camry two weeks ago.
This gave me anxiety for the length of time it took Zach to say NO thanks lol
Yeah, don't even let them get rolling. Deadpan "I'm not interested" (with a stare) goes a long way.
Very good role play from someone who's been in sales and finance...I personally appreciate knowledgeable buyers
Buying an extended warranty for a 4Runner defeats the purpose of buying a 4Runner
Yes sir, well said.
ha ha, true! Me, the First owner of the mighty 2008 Toyota 4Runner SR5 😎
Lol. says the guy who thinks circuit boards grow on trees .
Not sure new Tundra owners would agree
@j29maniac I'm basically a yes man so I can get the hell out of there as quickly as possible! 😆
That us what they want you to do@TJWinter1221
That's why you have to take charge first. The minute they start talking about the packages just say "We are not interested and won't be taking any of that stuff."
If/when they persist, just talk over him. "No, Skip it. We are not interested. "
Less aggressive but you can tell he was full of it when he sold cars lol
Dealerships must hire timeshare people.
The extended warranty.... They NEVER show you what items are EXCLUDED! They always makes it sound like EVERYTHING is going to be covered, but trust me, it is NOT!!!
As an older woman, I’d rather have a root canal than go in to buy a new car 😵💫😬
Amen
Thank you guys for all of these entertaining and very informative videos. Your channel is my new favorite RUclips channel. I’ve gone back and watched at least 12 of your previous videos already.
Although I’m not quite ready to buy my next car, I’m enjoying learning some of these methods, especially since when I bought my current car in the spring of 2021, I did not enjoy the dealership experience at all.
Thank you so much for the kind words! We’re thrilled to hear that you’re enjoying our videos and finding them helpful.
Love the role playing... Tools you can use...
If you owe ANYTHING on a vehicle get GAP Insurance through your insurance company & cancel the GAP once the vehicle is paid off.
You can cancel GAP prior to even having the car paid off - just so your not upside down.
@@jacobkummer2067 Which would be a bad idea.
What about getting gap through the finance company? I’m getting auto loan financing through my bank and they offered me GAP insurance
It was funny and weird at the same time
@@Dojo-v6m Fortunately my finance manager did not get rude or overly annoying, just the normal amount of annoying you would expect from him. LOL
Excellent advice, thanks for sharing.
You're very welcome! We're glad you found the advice helpful.
If you can't afford the gap, the car is too expensive. I've never bought gw insurance and I've never needed it
I’ve never met a Finance guy who was as easy as Ray. The guys I’ve dealt with fit into the attack dog class. Oh Ray “lovely” bracelets.
They tried to sell me an extended warranty when I bought my Jeep back in 1988. I said no, thanks and that was the end of it. I bought my '98 4Runner used and had no buying hassles whatsoever.
No Tire & Wheel protection Ray?
This is spot on, the GAP insurance is cheaper through your insurance then through the desler
What kind of watch is dad wearing in this video? It's snazzy
He shut up and printed the contract and I was on my way....
love your content thank you
I suspect that most car thieves know where to look for the Lojack device and Lojack will track the car to a garbage can at a gas station.
Most of those charges is why you buy your car insurance for.
Is there a difference between a LoJack and hiding an AirTag in the vehicle and sending the link to law enforcement?
Not much, except the air tag is far superior and way cheaper!
Love this, any chance you are my boyfriend’s twin - separated at birth?, maybe? 😂
Right on. Me too.
You guys can live in the stone ages if you want but I love all the new tech and creature comforts I can get.
Here is how I bypassed this conversation:
Say you will pay F&I products with a credit card. That will make em show you the full price of this BS in case you want it. After that is hard for them to pitch anything because prices are so high.
I am surprised he didnt add tire and wheel
And if they'll take a credit card, demand a lower cash price since they won't incur credit card fees!
@@bb_lz9790 Good tip
The finance manager was waaaaay pushier at the Toyota dealership I went to. I didn’t accept any of the extras, though
Toyota shouldn’t need an extended warranty! They always tout how good they are!
I purchased a Mercedes C300 (and the extended warranty), after a year and 1/2, I had only put 4000 miles on the car so I decided to sell. Got an offer I couldn’t refuse but before I sold it, contacted the dealer and got a full refund on my unused warranty.
There should never be a gap! You cannot afford the car if you feel it is necessary. You need to keep saving up more money, then buy.
Some do, some don't - depends on the quality of your insurance company
i worked at car dealer when bought a pre-owned car, got an extended warranty bumper to bumper for 6 years/ 100k mi. Yeah.... It ended up being an extra 6K on the loan. Luckily when I sold the car I got half back but my god was it a fight. That is the #1 call we get at dealerships = customers trying to speak with finance to cancel a warranty
There is no such thing as a bumper-to-bumper warranty or extended service contract. All have exclusions.
Every time I consider buying a new car, I watch your videos, and desire vanishes entirely. I'll stick to second hand beaters, thanks 😂
Great info as always! Typically, how much negotiating room is there on manufacturer extended warranty plans?
Thanks! There’s usually some room to negotiate on manufacturer extended warranty plans. Dealers want to sell them, so don’t hesitate to push for a better deal or shop around for comparisons.
Alot of new cars in Arizona include WINDOW TINT in their dealer add ons is that another SCAM charge ?
THERE'S ALWAYS MORE!!!
i got suckered into getting a lojack and then find out after I get the keys the Toyota app comes with feature to track the car. 🤦♀
I get your warranty mailers every year. I think I’ll have ample time to reconsider for a better deal at a later time
Watching this video gives me PTSD.
Good stuff.
What about GAP offered by the bank the vehicle is financed with?
GAP coverage offered by the bank is often more straightforward and can be less expensive than what dealerships offer. It’s definitely worth comparing the cost and terms with what the dealer is offering to make sure you're getting the best deal.
One thing that is honest by the finance guy is he needs to make you aware of the availability. Yes, he's selling but I cam tell you lawyers will eat it up if there wasn't a written proof that the dealer offered and customer declined. Same with service department.
He has to prove he offered extended warranties?
How do I get out of handling and freight when they work it into the MSRP?? They won’t budge on the price even though MSRP is lower than what are offering me. And it’s not on my invoice
Im definitely getting dent protection on my next car. I have so many parking lot door dings on my car it’s ridiculous. People have no respect for other peoples vehicles anymore.
Twice I was sitting in my car when they hit it. They got quite the ass chewing
The F&I manager thanks you.
I just bought a 2024 Toyota RAV4 after secured the price walked into the finance office, told him paying cash and don't want any of the upsell so don't waste your time. Signed sales contract paid and drove off.
How much under msrp did you get?
Today got 2025 Kia EX leather with panoramic sunroof at 2.9% interest rate, no money down on a 3 yr note for 34000 OTD😁
Is lojack even a thing now that cars can't even start with the key fob inside?
I've been through it . regrated of paying 2.6k extra and a guy who tagged along with me didnt say a single word to help me out of this situation.
I bought a new car last year, I got this speel I asked if I could think on it and come back in a few days, I was told no, Because then it would be considered a used car, So I said ok, and turned it down
The dent they showed you isn't a minor dent, and likely would require bodywork.
A car for sure isn't an investment, maybe a boat anchor.
They loveee the upsells! Don't fall for it
Check with your insurance provider on gap. I have gap on my insurance & I just left it there so whenever I buy a vehicle I don't need gap from dealership it's on my insurance already
I know progressive offers it. It's worth looking into with ur insurance company to see.
Gap coverage is no good? Can someone explain that to me. I assumed that would be the 1 coverage that would be recommended.
I think normally you don't need to buy it from the dealer. At least in my case I included it on my normal auto insurance policy for a much lower price. It's also much more flexible as you can just remove it from your policy when it no longer makes sense.
how many times did you say VAST MAJORITY ? ? ?
Can anyone tell me how to negotiate the OTD price of a car from a suggested retail price. Toyota dealers are just not interested in negotiating.
Oh, sign me up! If a majority of your customers go for it, it must be a great deal!
@@CarEdge Thanks. You and Zach are the best!
so glad you asked this.
Been watching all of these videos to prepare myself though.
It’s head spinning how much crap they try to sell you.
@@JG-ll5lfThanks for your reply bud, but a refund would show and prove true penitence and help those who are still making payments and may be upside down on a car they were sold and over paid.
Bought a 24' Camry not at dealership,is it worth it to get servicing done at dealership or are they a rip off ?
Most people call them Stealerships for a reason....
