So wonderful to see you embracing Southeast Asia! Loved how you're seeking out local foods, even those outside of your comfort zone. Kathryn, in particular, had the best reactions!
As a half lao/thai American citizen living in the states 40 plus years, it is extremely rare to get those crispy gooey small pancake snacks where I live and they are that good. Chicken liver is an acquired taste but it has to be cooked to perfection to enjoy. So yes you probably got some undercooked ones with it. Because I cooked them before myself, I know how to tell which ones are undercooked. Yes, love love love Khao soi and boat noodles.
Another fabulous and fun video! Loved Adam’s expression and (sound effects) when he took his first bite of Khao Soi . Priceless ! Liver is an acquired taste though. I could never get used to the taste or texture.Kudos to you guys for trying new stuff. It is a huge part of travel!
Glad your visa run was a fun one! You guys were Champs and tried the local food! So fun to see the different foods from different cultures. The durian was a good call to try. It made good content lol
I love Thailand. I haven’t been to Chiang Mai but I spent some time in Bangkok and Phuket and just really enjoyed the culture. I don’t speak Thai but people were pretty receptive and we figured things out. They seem pretty chill and friendly.
Ohhhh I want Khao soi now! 😋 We’ll have to remember to check out Phil’s recommendations when we’re next in Chiang Mai… we saw Phil in Perth recently- we went to his show. Such a great guy 😁
You guys are brave for trying durians, especially the ripened ones. Because those are quite difficult to eat. I’d recommend the not so ripe one for first timer. They are lighter yellow-colored and stiffer texture if you gently press on them. The smell is also not as strong too. The ones you ate in the video was a big challenge, even some Thais don’t eat those ripened durians. But big props to you guys!👍
I am so glad you made it to my favorite place in the world. I was hoping you would make it for Songkran, but it looks like you were either just before or just after. My favorite time there is Yi Ping / Loy Krathong when the air quality is better and it's incredibly beautiful! Goota Love Khao Soy! If you ever go again let me know! So many incredible things to do and see!
I really like when you guys eat Khao Soi. It's delicious, I understand you guys. And I'm glad you guys love it. Hope you guys will come back again. Love from Thailand.
Heck yeah! It definitely lived up to it! And we visited another Khao Soi shop and could definitely tell a difference between them. It would be so fun to go on a Khao Soi tour!
Im in the "they always love their food!" group so i was laughing at the durian >_< but how about that Khao soi! Def looked. mouth watering! Thanks for bringing us along :)
We do tons of research before we go to a restaurant to make sure it will be good and we're pretty easy to please when it comes to food. The khao soi was so so good! Thanks and thanks for watching!
Hello Adventures, Kathryn and Adam, I knew you weren't thrilled with those NASTY food choices. Adam what happened...hahahaha😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊. I know you try that anymore hahaha😋😋😋😋😔😔😔. I've been really enjoying the sights and sounds. Amazing video!!
Good morning Adam and Kathryn! We are enjoying your trip to Vietnam and Thailand! Lol on the coffee sharing!!! I do not share ice cream! You two have the best drone shots, best information, camera work, editing, and music! You are top notch!!! And y'all are fun!!!
Most people don't like durian first time they try it but they keep going back thinking there must be a reason why it's adored by many , and before you know it you are addicted.
That food 😋😋😋…the mango sticky rice! I really enjoyed Adam’s reaction to the durian! 🤣 Kathryn, you were brave to try the liver! Thailand looked really cool and your ride to the temple was very fun! That temple sure was gorgeous! Great video!
We just return from Chiang Mai, Pattaya and Bangkok. We took Bolt, the ride sharing transportation. We negotiated a nice AC Honda Civic for $500 Baht round trip ride. We saw the same dogs when we were there. The best place to stay In our opinion is at the Astra Condo next to the Shangri la hotel. Were is your home base in Vietnam? Danang is are favorite city in Vietnam.
That sounds like an epic trip! We hope to spend lots of time in Thailand in the future! We stayed at the Astra Condo in Chiang Mai! It was nice! We didn't have a home base in Vietnam. We traveled south to north over 6 weeks
Love to watch your videos & welcome to South East Asia! You definitely have to visit Chiangmai during the Yee Peng Lantern Festival, it is so spectacular! A must-see event in Thailand! And do visit Chiangrai if you have time 😊
Born in Saigon and live in the US. I prefer to eat frozen durian over fresh one. With durian, you either love it or hate it. There is no in between. I am glad you both gave it a try 😊
I was so excited to see your guys’ reactions to trying the durian because I was also excited to try it earlier this year when I was in Chiang Mai myself. My reaction was a lot more Team Adam, lol, but I totally agree that it tastes like mangos and onion but also with garlic powder. Never again, lmao! You both were so brave in the sizes of your first bites I gotta say 😂😂
I noticed you put your backpack through as checked baggage. You might want to check out Osprey for one of their backpack bags. You put your pack inside to protect it from the baggage handling equipment. Those belts and straps often get caught and damaged. Thanks for another great video.
That would've been nice to have. We also made the mistake of leaving our tripod outside of our bag on the way back. Long story short...we never saw it again and had to buy a new one 😭 Thanks and thanks for watching!
Personally, I love durian! After living in both Vietnam and Malaysia, we had access to really fresh stuff. We actually tried durian flavored things BEFORE trying the actual fruit, and they were actually more intense! 😂 Mango sticky rice is definitely the best dessert of SE Asia though, in our opinion. SO GOOD. Nice to see you guys seriously made up for that nightmare flight! ✈️
You don't hear that often! We thought about trying durian ice cream or something, but we're still recovering so it may be a few years 😂 Mango sticky rice was awesome!
I'm Thai American. I've been a fan of your channel for a long time. I'm glad you guys enjoyed Thailand. I don't hate durian, but I'm not a fan of it either. The ones you tried were way too ripe, I think. Good durian should be firmer, which should also give out a lot less "aromatic". Not saying you should give it another try, but mushy durian isn't a good representation of the fruit. 😅 Hope you guys go back to explore more of Thailand especially the less touristy scenes. :😊
I have enjoyed all your SE Asia videos. 🤩 I’m glad you had a chance to check our Chiang Mai! I absolutely love khao soi, too. 🤤 Ironically, I stayed in an Airbnb really close to that khao soi shop and told myself I need to try it after finding it on Google maps... I never did. 😂 Now I for sure need to go!
Thank you so much! Chiang Mai was amazing and we really want to visit again and for longer! If you're still there we definitely recommend you check it out!
K eating durian is like watching Violet chewing the Three Course Dinner gum in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! Hhmmm tastes like onions.....now I'm tasting mango....
In fact, Thai food or Northern food has more than Khao Soi or Sai Oua, what you might miss is to taste "Laab Khwai" which is a local food of Chiang Mai, the interesting thing about Laab is the ingredients mixed. It's a larb dish, of course one of the most famous larb restaurants there is "larb ton khoi" and of course the food of the north is more advanced than just the taste and appearance🔥😋🥰
I never got excited about food but since watching your travels and dining I am going to try some oriental this year. At almost 70 I think I have missed out in a lot of good food. Going out to eat should always be a treat. 👍👍🏍🏍🏍🙋♂️
my niece brought a piece of durian to our house and left it wrapped in a paper towel on the kitchen table. It smelled so bad that my wife thought it was a gas leak and called 911. Emergency fire crews came and realized it was the durian. LOL that was a good laugh.
You have to try a ripe good durian. That one that you eaten over ripe, it look mushy. The first bite grilled chicken is chicken heart, that why its taste like chicken red meat. And the rest of it is chicken liver, it is soft and creamy taste. like your video ❤️, please com back to Thailand.
There are many types of durian. The one you took is not a good one. Even for Thais, we don't really eat that type of durian. If you want to give durian another try, I suggest you to buy from a good supermarket. The one you need is called "Mon Thong" and ask for the one that crispy outside but soft inside.
I know you are in Thailand in this episode, but my question is about Vietnam. I was in high school when all of our male friends were given draft numbers and being shipped off to Vietnam, a war that we as young people were all opposed to.. So thats what comes to mind when I hear Vietnam. My question is if you are going to visit any memorials to all our boys that died over there in the war?? What you have shown of Vietnam is quite beautiful and thank you for sharing that part.
Loving your vlogs, been following you since you took the ferry to Vancouver Island. I have to say you guys can eat and eat lots of food! Good going Katherine on eating the durian. It is a strange smelling fruit. I lived in KL for a short stint and man did the air around garbage cans stink during durian season.
I really have enjoyed seeing all the places you both have visited. I thought the foods were interesting. I like how the airport spoiled you before boarding AirAsia. I loved this video.
Welcome to Chiangmai!! If you come to Thailand any city, you will see the people who are more kind to you. By the way, the durian you tried is the bad taste or grade. Usually the best grade durian is at southern or eastern not northern.
What a trip! Loved the food tour and I love chicken livers but have never tasted durian although, like you, I've heard a lot about it. Never smelled it either. You guys were real sports to try it. Not sure I could do that! I will try just about anything except Balut! Ever heard of that? lol
You can get khao soi all over Texas. Texas is actually one of the best Asian food states in the country. They even have Asians chain restaurants that you can't get in other states or elsewhere in the Western world.
Awesome! 99% of the Thai places we’ve eaten at in the US haven’t had it on the menu, but we also haven't been to every Thai restaurant. When we find it on a menu, we get it though! What are some of your favorite spots to get khao soi in Texas?
Hello from Texas y'all. I was born and raised in Thailand. I'm excited to see you enjoy your time in Chaing Mai. All the food you get to tried there, OMG! I am so jealous. Kanom Krok is nearly impossible to come across here in the U.S. also I love Durian so much but I hate the super ripe ones that you had, it was way too ripe, like bad. I felt so bad for you.
Howdy! We had such a great time in Chiang Mai. Can't wait to go back one day! The durain was tough! We'll have to give it another try! Thanks and thanks for watching!
I just got back from Chiangmai in January I have been around everywhere anyway durian that you had is too ripe if you have tried the one that not softly you would like it , have fun 😊😊😊
I avoid burning season in SE Asia too. The street food samplings were great with nice bokeh in background. That Khao Soi was a more original presentation than in the Oregon trip. Like banana and mango, you might want to re-try the Durian when it is almost riped which is when it's not gooey sweet which makes a difference for me and still holds its form. I'm surprised you guys didn't get to try\find "miank"(mortar rice with lemongrass, noodle, amuse bouche style) in Chiang Mai... If there, I would eat and walk all day if I can stay slim.
OMG, maybe we will see each other in Vietnam. ☺️ Just watched your Vietnam videos and I will follow all the places. Thx for the great video. You guy are gorgeous 😍.
@@AdventuresofAplusK What a pity. 🦭 Thanks anyway to give me an overview what I can expect in Vietnam. 💕 I really love your vlogs, never got bored from both of you.
Adam, in the future, after many years of world-wide travels, will you go back to teaching? If you do, your mind will be SO RICH! You'll be such a GREAT ASSET to your future students! Hope you do!!!
After 6 years of teaching I learned that teaching isn’t for me, for several reasons. I loved coaching sports, so I’d consider doing that again, but teaching during the school day isn’t something I’d like to do again But I have definitely learned a lot and have many travel stories to share!
Comparing to Pho, which one do you like more? Pho or Khao Soi? In Thailand, we rationally and politely honk, even Vietnamese tourists applause us. For Durian, there are many kinds. You should try Mon Thong first which is crisp on the outside and soft inside.
We'd choose khao soi over pho most of the time I think. We love both though! haha yeah the honking cultures are drastically different! We had no idea there was so much variety in the durian. We definitely need to try it again Thank you!
So excited to receive our email that our shirts are on the way. Woo hoo… will have to sport them on our channel. AND would love to see you down under some time. I know Adam has been here, but if you’re after recommendations for some great hikes along the entire eastern side of Australia, we’ve got dozens upon dozens to work your legs upon that we could suggest. Hit us up for suggestions if you head over. Cheers
That's so awesome! Thanks for ordering a shirt and we hope it has made it by now! We reallllly want to get to Australia some time soon! There is so much to see and do there! Thanks again!
@@AdventuresofAplusK Awesome. When you do, check out the well known Tasmanian south west wilderness multi day hike, the snowy mountains Kosciusko hike (Our highest mainland peak), and the lesser known but absolutely stunning hikes in New England National Park, Gibraltar Range National Park and Wash pool National Park (these are stunning but there are so so many, like in the States). We were in the States last year and spent time in Fall in the Smokies. Just stunning
Your durian is over ripe. You should try the one that's not over ripe. Ask the locals new you to choose good ones. The one you had was a no for me either 😅

Wonderful stuff, this channel is the spiritual inheritor of what Kara and Nate once were

Khao soi is one of the few rare dishes that when you taste it for the first time it's like OMG! Where have you been all my life!!
heck yeah!
The way you both explain the flavors of the food, and your facial expressions. So cool.😂👍😊🇹🇭
Thank you!

It's amazing what you can do in a city in one day.

Welcome to Thailand 😊 Khao Soi Lung Prakit is absolutely incredible!!! Not a durian fan either but at least you tried it.

Special thanks to your excellent information & fantastic experience... Chiangmai & Lanna cuisine, friendliness are so unique...
Thanks and thanks for watching!
Thanks for the whilrwind tour of Chiang Mai area. Looks like a ton of good food to try too.
Durian is a very special fruit. Some Europeans really like it. The texture and the smell are unique
Great video! The drink is Thai Ice Tea, chai and condensed milk. Highly addictive! 😊

I just got back from
Chiangmai in January I have been around everywhere anyway durian that you had is too ripe if you have tried the one that not softly you would like it , have fun 😊😊😊
thanks and thanks for watching!
Try Durian chip next time you go back to Thailand. I hate durian but durian chip is awesome!
We looking for you to return. Many things in Thailand to explore. Hope next time you will visit whole country.
Yes we want to spend a lot more time in Thailand next time!
Though I'm not a fan of durian but I do like it with sugarcane juice, I just had it today in Vietnam and it was amazing
Oh interesting. That would make it a little more bearable I think!
I don't know if I can get myself to try the durian again haha maybe in a few years 😂 still recovering! Never heard of "miank". Sounds super good!
OMG, maybe we will see each other in Vietnam. ☺️ Just watched your Vietnam videos and I will follow all the places.
Thx for the great video. You guy are gorgeous 😍.
This video was filmed a few weeks ago and we’ve already made it back to the states 😊
We hope you have a great trip and thanks for watching!
@@AdventuresofAplusK What a pity. 🦭 Thanks anyway to give me an overview what I can expect in Vietnam. 💕
I really love your vlogs, never got bored from both of you.
I loved coaching sports, so I’d consider doing that again, but teaching during the school day isn’t something I’d like to do again
But I have definitely learned a lot and have many travel stories to share!
We definitely need to try it again
Thank you!
