    I have years of paint repair experience. First off, the color will shrink by the next day. The color is the base coat will dry semi gloss.
    The best way is to dab the color( base coat) using a paint such as RM or Dupont Chromabase or one of the usual high quality paints used in a reputable body shop. Take some urethane( compatible to the paint system) catalyzed clear coat ( mixed in the proper ratio ) add half the usual reducer called for and using a dabber stick. Looks like a tooth pick with a miniature cotton ball on the end and dab enough clear to just fill the hole raised above the surface. Let dry over night. Come back the next morning use a small piece of paint stirring stick. About half inch by three quart inch. Wrap a strip of 1500 grit wet or dry sandpaper several times. So it wraps maybe 8-10 times around the wood block ( it should be about 1/8th thick block). Now with water from a spritz bottle get your block wet and sand the blob of clear back and forth with light to medium pressure until the blob of clear is level. Then go to a 3000 grit and 6 to 10 wet strokes just a little larger then before.Finish with 5000 grit wet or dry. Buy a polish like System 51 polish. You can use an electric buffer or hand rub your factory paint with a micro finishing shop cloth. I recommend System 51 because the compound does not breakdown. It's the compound breakdown that causes the dark colors to look hazy when buffed. I use the same technique for fisheyes in fresh paint. Practice makes perfect. All paint shrinks when it dries. This is why you want to pimple it just above the surface to allow for shrinkage and block sanding. Hope this is helpful.

    talked to ding master here in Tampa and he said all it is touch-up paint from dealer and lacquer thinner. Because the lacquer thinner will not harm color plus clear coat paint which is most new cars today. He advised to buy the correct color using your vin number at the parts counter of your dealer or brand of car. Also to practice on a chip that is not front and center on your car so you get good at it. But i still gave the thumbs up on this video because it shows his technique. Many people below say Acetone but Ding Master said to pick up lacquer thinner anywhere because it will not lift up acrylic paint unless you leave a soaked rag of thinner on your car overnight. Hope this helps. its what i am doing.

      I googled it and lacquer thinner is stronger than acetone which what the master said its true. I appreciate the comment and thank you for saving me 50$ since i already have the touch up paint.

    I just want to leave a review which combines topics covered in a few of your videos. I followed your advice on my Equinox 2013. I spent a whole weekend on my car. Pressure washed it. Did the headlights. Washed it with the two bucked method. Dried with waffle towel. Clay bar the whole car. Then I used Dr. Chip Fix (which went fairly well, but my paint ships were really big). Polished and Compounded. Then Waxed. My SUV has never looked this good. I bought it in 2014 (was fairly new), and even then, I cannot remember it looking this good. The color has completely changed, it look amazing! To all of you who are thinking about following Canadian Riders advice, All I have to say it, take you time, follow all the steps, and you will 100% be satisfied with the results! Thank You so much!

    The cheaper and more classic way of fixing it is 1. get a touch up paint, touch it up or make a blob over the chip. 2. take the acetone, put it on the cloth and gently 'level' down the blob to make it flat with surrounding. 3. polish. Exact same idea as this so called chip repair kit. the leveling liquid they sell is basically same as acetone. If you dont want to use the acetone? you can also mix acetone and car polish and make a leveling lotion.

      I have a chip (not too deep) but it is about the size of a dime plus one scratch and several small dings like in this video from driving with a lot of big trucks on the highway. So does this mean I can put a blob of paint in the chip, let it sit for a few minutes, and take nail polish remover (acetone or non acetone?) And wipe off the rest like in this video? I just dont want it to look like crap because it's a MB that I'd like to keep looking as nice as possible.

    as a side not, you can add multiple layers if it isn't filled. The idea is to fill the "hole" above the baseline of the panel. So you have a mound of paint. As it dries, it will shrink because the reducer releases from the actual paint pigment. So it's important to 1) use a bondo spreader and a cloth over it so that you don't take too much paint material out of the hole. 2) do one or two passes, STOP. Evaluate. 1 or 2 paseses and repeat....

    • @dtsect
      @dtsect 2 года назад

      But when you use the leveler, isn't it not only going to remove the paint around the chip but also any paint that filled in the chip? So chip will always be a bit lower than the surrounding surface. It's not like the leveler knows where the chip is and avoids removing the paint only in that area.

    • @tooldemoguy
      @tooldemoguy 2 года назад +6

      @@dtsect It will remove the paint around the chip, and level the "bubble" you created within the chip, making it even with the painted panel. With experience, being a pro, your end result will be a FLUSH chip :)

    There's nothing wrong with filling the chips before you correct the paint as long as the touch up has time to cure before correcting...in fact I prefer doing it that way as it leaves an even better result. But yes the chips must be clean before filling them regardless. And if the chip isn't filled by the touch up, you can repeat the process until it is...using a hair dryer to cure the touch up paint in between applications speeds up the process.

    For deeper stone chips if you want perfect results, use single stage glazing spot putty to fill in the depth.

    • @ryanoconnell5796
      @ryanoconnell5796 2 года назад +6

      Yes but then you have to seal it the the putty doesn’t soak in the moisture from the paint and also spot putty is mixed with water and you cant put that directly on metal cause it will most likely rust under the paint. Need to be primed or something. Body filler would be better as putty can shrink as well when it gets cold.

    Love the VDOs, question though, for those of us who live in the city and don't have a garage or access to a water tap, but only a coin auto carwash. What would be the best way to wash the car using the coin wash as to minimise damage to the paint. Cheers!

    • @konman5550
      @konman5550 4 года назад +1

      First thing - do not use brush washes. Use only the touchless ones. Cars in the city can get pretty dirty and the grime won’t wash off with those. Ideally there are some car washes that have hand pressure washers. You can use them to do a two-bucket method wash. Soap it up and rinse all the loose debris off the car, use good quality mitten or sponge. He also said he detailed the car. That means he: 1) clay-barred it. Iron-x can work as well or as a supplemental tool to remove brake dust (tiny iron particles that get stuck on your paint and begin to rust through). 2) use paint compound and a polishing machine to remove swirls and light scratches (not through the paint). Even deeper scratches that are not through to the primer can benefit from polishing as Polish will remove dirt stuck in them. 3) use polishing compound to bring shine. 4) diluted isopropyl alcohol to remove any oils and polish from the car surface. You’d probably need a home-boy with a house garage for that though. Then you can touch up paint to your liking. I’m yet to do try that part using this guy’s method. Then wax it or even better - ceramic coat it. I have a white Mercedes and rail dust is a bitch. Living in hot salty humid Florida does not help either. However it’s one of the best colors to have as it repels heat, helps to hide defects from immediate view (chips, even dents) and yet at the same time allows you to see colorful stains from shitty multicolor car wash soaps and orange rusty rail dust and to correct them. It is also the easiest color to color-match! For waxing you can use spray waxes as well as paste waxes. There are also cleaner waxes that help you maintain car shine, cleanliness and protection in between. For light duty you can also use car detailer spray or even Meguiars waterless wash and wax spray in between full-scale cleaning I described above. That is not to swirl paint with tiny road debris hiding on the surface. Hope that helps!

      @@marvino7132 first off, after you use the paint pen... Give it a few days and let it cure. It's going to look ugly in that process. But after that come and sand it down even with 2,000 grit. Sand it until it's even with the rest of the panel and when you run your fingers across, you can't feel the difference. After that same with 3,000 grit and sand past or overlap the 2000 grit slightly. Then compound, then polish. It won't be 100% better but it will be around 95% and the only way you can tell is if you up close on it 1 inch away
