The Sturgis motorcycle rally can get a bit of a bad rap and a lot of folks claim its too expensive to attend. And while things have been commercialized a bit over the years the old school biker in us keeps a few tricks up our sleeve on how to have a great time for just a few bucks. We show you how you can come out to the Black Hills and have the time of you life for less than $500.
#Sturgis #SturgisRally #BlackHillClassic - Авто/Мото
for even cheaper you can just watch live youtube videos of other people at the rally for free
That's some good info...
The campsites further from Sturgis are less expensive and still have basic amenities, such as showers. You don't need a motorhome and a toy hauler to have fun!
Everything he mentioned minus meat/ice was how I rode through all 48 a few years ago.
Took off 3 months b/t work contracts. Camped out 90%, used planet fitness for showers, etc.
Pack of baby wipes wrapped in Alum.Foil riding atop a Harley Trans makes for great end of day bath!
Community center has been $6 for years can’t imagine it went down in price... however they provide an exercise room, towels, soap, and some basic toiletries if needed. I would recommend finding a good camping spot downtown Sturgis in one of the locals yards. Just ask those who are camping if it’s a good spot and what they offer. Most are $25 per night per person the good ones will include showers, outdoor kitchen setups, bbq grills, frig/freezer space, cups, plates, silverware etc... which can really save you money in the long run. Not to mention power to charge up your devices. A couple churches provide free pancakes for a donation for breakfast and hit up subway for $5 footlong and you can have a pretty epic trip with out breaking the bank... just my 2 cents
This will be my 19th rally and have stayed all over the hills but for the last 6 have camped downtown. If you got a question for me?? Ask.
Love that your recommending to enjoy the Rally the old way. 👍
Thats the way id do it everytime
@@sterlingcollins3077 you mean,,,,, a P38 , new pack of socks, tent, bedroll, towel, bungies, gear?

Very informative! Thanks for sharing!
Great info for general travel also! Thanks for sharing!
Great advice, thanks.
Not having been there yet this sounds like a good plan. I don't drink so perhaps more food and or fun.
Exactly
Now that some good information thank you
On the bottle water issue. Maybe just buy 2 bottles of water and refill them.
Yeah, I was thinking carrying a case of water on a motorcycle along with all that camping gear might not work out so well…the same goes for a12 pack…
Thanks J&P good info.....Larry G. 🤠
i dont know if youre aware of it or not, but youre one funny dude! thanks for all the tips! soooooooo looking forward to boondockin!
You did good glad you posted video on Sturgis member in the old days people actually got on their motorcycles no matter where they lived and road to Sturgis camp now yuppies motorhomes toy haulers sad sad
Damn good advice!
Can’t wait for the rally
Love the advice…Plz give a couple of more tips for the 2022 Sturgis Rally (due to high prices of gas ⛽️💰).
I have a buddy that lives there. Lots of dual sport trails. We are also ADV riders. You couldn't catch me there for the rally. I do agree on dispersed camping👍. Pack it out is the way to go all over North, Central and South America. (P.S. The grooved concrete on the highway near town sucks. It always makes me think I have a tire going down).
Great support! Would love to come back again. From GY! Sie you next...
That's some GREAT TIPS!! DO SOME MORE OF THESE TIP VIDEO'S !!! IM GOING TO STRUGIS FOR MY FIRST TIME !! I NEED ALL THE TIPS I CAN GET !! THANKS
Have fun, don't try to do everything your first trip ! There are way too many great rides and things to experience.
@@chrisb2056 thanks Chris !!
Cool info.
Thanks for the advice! This is our first time, we are staying at a cheap hotel, but we are pretty seasoned travelers. I already have pb&j sandwiches made, we've traveled 23 states and 30k+ in the past year eating oatmeal breakfast pb&j lunch and 1 meal out per day. I drink water from random sinks or spigots, and hubby brings lemonade packets to add to our free water.. We can't wait for this trip! Counting down the days!!!
I'll update afterwards what our actual expenditures are. Our budget is $500, including hotel which is $300, we'll be in sturgis from the 9th through the 12th.
you sound like an awesome wife and great tips, your husband is a lucky man :) Cheers from texas!
That's the way to do it👍
Getting close it’s that time of year.
I’ve spent a week at the Rally for a lot less than $500. But I didn’t buy all the stuff I wanted at the JP store either. 😏
there it is......Nice and Smart
DUDE, RIGHT ON
That's drinking money alone 😆🤣
YeeeHaw...may true blessings of light n true love keep the fine folk at j &P..amen..🍇🤴💜
Spot on…all of it…
Great video as always. My 2 cents... plan ahead and stay at one of the "big" campgrounds, save a little extra money and really enjoy the time! Sturgis is a must do!!!!
Couldn’t agree more… staying at the chip… this trip was paid for in February
Some good deets. 😎👍
If I go Im stayin at your place....I need my money for those fancy IPAs!
I'm from Alaska, and I've done the rally for as little as $400, and I had the time of my life. In my 15 years of going, I have never spent more than $1600. I ate at the American Legion exit 46 in Piedmont last year, $14 for a full meal with cake and ice cream. I'm a big guy and love to eat. I never go away hungry. If you look there are lots of places cheap to stay. I do a campground in Piedmont for all 10 days at $800 for a cabin. Non rally prices $200 a week. I go a week early and stay a week late some times.
Well that excludes me I thought me going for less then 500 included ride, room an board looks like I am not going again this year 😅
No fire. As in no camp stoves either or just no camp fires?
Great info! Do you know if there is a map somewhere we can look at that outlines the free camping? I'm looking for something that takes all the requirements you laid out into consideration. Thanks for the Vid Patick!
try blm.gov
All black hills national forest is free
@@truckcampertraveler7369 stayed at one right on the edge of the bad lands. awesome view
@@scottlin7876 yes thats a nice place !
Get Vid! Will I get mauled if I show up on my Kawasaki C-14?
Trucks stops and rest areas are good places for cheap showers.
The American Legion in Piedmont will cost you $8 for breakfast and $12 for supper with cake and ice cream nightly. It's home cooking and they have a menu for the week. Cheapest I've done is $400 and that included my drinks and shirts. I see concerts at the Full Throttle nightly. The Buffalo Chip sells 93 octane fuel, go buy it.
There no English for cc for deaf it been other countries languages I don't understand I am full biker deaf. Let you know fix it thank you
How do you find the disbursed camping?
dispersed
It did it
I'm not going to lie I feel like when I was younger there are a lot more things we could do. Now it's $25 just to go on a trail. I used to just ride my dirt bike out into the middle of the woods and go camping with the fire 🤷♂️
🏁👍🗽
Add a dollar fifty to the gas price. Price of gas will be over $4 for 91 octane
I have never been to Sturgis, but I going this year for the first time. I have heard about all the high prices. I thought there where Federal Laws about price gouging. Especially gas prices. I live on the Alabama Gulf Coast and when I Hurricane come through, the Federal Gov. will burn people's ass for gouging. I don't see how they get away with it in Strugis.
@@mikewalters4994 they do it on the hotels but not only for the Rally but any car show or other events held in the area.
@@mikewalters4994 it's not price gouging it's biden American gouging.
@@nonethelessfirst8519 how can it be Biden, when it been going on for many years. Biden has not been President but 6 months
@@mikewalters4994 gas prices weren't this high 6 months ago, what's your point mike?
What if I need a front tire? Best place?
J&P Cycle store on Lazelle st .

another tip for bathing, if you have a plant fitness or anytime fitness membership, ride down to Rapid City and go to your gym and use their shower.
What our dates for the rally this year
Aug 6th through Aug 15, 2021
Thanks
I dont drink and I got medical Marijuana card so is it cool or not to partake?
Good question!
not yet but private property is private property!
✌
Shower!?
I did before I got here 4yrs ago
Not too mention water is more than beer
Man that is hardcore! What about toilet paper?🤣🤣🤣
Be a man. Use your hand.
If your drinking a 12 pack a day….GET TO A MEETING!
I did it for less than $ 500 staying at a campground with showers for $20 a night
The only time I will go to Sturgis is when THE RALLY isn't there.
Do you a deal, anything over $500 then you pay it ...... anything under $500 I will buy stuff from shop ....... 👍 ......... I live in the Netherlands by the way 😂😂😂😂 ... estimated cost of going to Sturgis .... well about $12000 😢😢😢😢. .... Maybe one day 👍 thanks for the engine mount by the way, well happy 👍
You could skip a day here and there on the showers and go to Burger King instead.
Everywhere in town raises prices for rally.
No they don't, I live in Sturgis.
=Patrick
Yes they do, so do I. Ive worked here before, after, and during rally. I know, and i know locals would agree.
@@angryguy67 The Grocery Mart does not raise their prices.
@@dakotasun6207 i will agree with that. I love them.
I guess all your money went to your Harley. 🤔🙄😳😉
You also have to worry about wildlife
Then your bike breaks down and you only have 100 dollars left to try and fix it or get it home lol
If your counting on your bike to break down on a trip, you should use the trip money to fix your bike.
@@jpcycles no one PLANS on it happening, it just does lol
12 pack a day? Bro the first step is admitting you've got a problem.
I don't drink anymore, so that isn't a problem. Boondock Camping? Is there anything else?? BoooYaaa!!
Haha $3/gallon.
The good old days.
#1 tip: Don't get covid. Got covid 2021 and my hospital bill from Sturgis and Rapid city was $130k. Tends to put a dent in your budget.
Don't go and you still have your 500
Even with all that covered. Ide kiss yo arss if you only spent 500$. It would cost more than 100 at a descent restaurant just for 2 😅 cmon yall. Love these guys don't get me wrong but....
I literally break it down in the video. No you cant spend $100 at a restaurant, you have to make sandwiches from the grocery store. It's laid out dollar for dollar in the video.
Back packs do it for free.
So you can’t!
I can do it! But the wife puts it to me like this, that bitch better have a shower, toilet, and a king-size bed with AC! lol Now your next video can be? "Happy Wife Happy Life" how to bring the wife for under thousands of dollars. lol
Who are you trying to BS?
No one...?
I'll save a lot more by not going. I've been biking since 1969 and have on desire to do Sturgis. The main reason is that I've never seen a video of the rally showing a Black person. For this reason I won't ever go there. I've been to other rallies with no issues, but Sturgis isn't on my bucket list...
Of course there's been many people of color. Be an example, check it out. Before you judge.
Go ahead and go. I do believe the Buffalo Soldiers will be there.
I have meet some of those guys, great bunch. As
I'll bet you are. I've ridden since 1972, tattoos and t-shirts to prove it. The world is changing sooo fast. Let's explore all possibilities,
I've never been to Apollo's theater, but would love to see it.
Its taken me about 10 minutes to think about how to answer your concerns. Please reconsider coming to the rally. You will feel welcomed and part of our larger bikeaholic family. The rally for me is different every time. So much to see and do in a beautiful part of our country.
who lives like this?
if you can afford a harley you can afford to stay in a hotel and eat good food
