    All good advice, #5 is very important the weather out there is unpredictable. It's also one area of the country where you need all your gear even in August. I have been there three times and I usually go through Yellowstone either on the way out or back to Southern Cal It's been in the 30's in August every time I have been there, so you have to be prepared for all kinds of weather.

    I grew up 150 miles from Sturgis been going there since the 80s often on. Lived in Rapid City area for three years around 2014. If you truly want to see the Black Hills don’t go during Sturgis the traffic sucks. My Average day going home from work then I live there was usually about an 1 1/2 to 2 Hour Ride home for my 30 minute commute through the Black Hills. We go on the day rides into the Black Hills from time to time every year but I always tried to avoid a week before Sturgis and a week after

    Echo the DON'T drink and ride. I've had friends spend the night in Sturgis Jail and then have to retrieve their bike the next day. Also, ride within your capabilities. There are some technical rides throughout the Black Hill's and it's not a place to learn how to ride. With so many riders out riding the Hills, it's easy to hurt yourself and/or others.

    I was always fully aware of the weather. Kept my eye on the radar app every afternoon mainly and knew when the thunderboomers were building in from the west. I often told my wife, “honey we got 30 minutes to finish our drinks or shopping whatever and then we need to saddle up and head somewhere where the storms were not”.

    I feel that it is important to stress the watching the alcohol consumption. Have a good time. Party. A beer here and there plan your partying. Drinking heavy no riding . Riding no heavy drinking. Da Bus or Jonez bus pass much cheaper than a DUI. Or accident. More liquor =more bad decisions and questionable choices.

  • @psalwasser
    @psalwasser Год назад +3

    also, when riding, if you want to sight see, stop in a safe place and take a look. stay focused when riding - dont hold up traffic or rear end someone. keep traffic moving safely. control your bike at all times and dont pass anyone on the right - even in our own party. I did see queen sits video when she almost got hit. that guy just lost control on the open road with what appeared to be absolutely no reason to wash his front end out. take a rest and dont let the heat or exhaustion get to you and try to pace yourself. rule number one: no collisions or crashes- arrive in one piece. number two: no citations. three: no breakdowns - make sure your equipment and gear is in tip top shape. four: relax and have fun!

    I live in Meade County. Sturgis is the County Seat. Come. Have fun! Respect our laws. If you want to walk around downtown Sturgis with a beer BUY a Sturgis cup. You'll get a nice souvenir and be legal.
    Children live here. Be aware of that in your conversations and actions. If you wouldn't say something or behave in front of your own children like that then don't do it in front of the kids here.
    Finally be safe. We want to see you again next year.

    Don't disrespect motorcycles/riders. Respect the motorcycles and riders. More and more RV's, trucks, and 4-wheel "toys" are taking the roads/camps, and exerting "privilege" causing dangerous situations for riders.

    I'd say Rule #1 should be, tell all the Tourist you know, please don't drive your car, truck, camper, or RV anywhere near that area during Rally week.

    Motorcyclists do NOT own the roads, and yet are way too inconsiderate to locals and other vacationers about that.

It was better when it was biker run, now all you see "Official Sturgis Merchandise". Pretty soon only the RUB's will be able to afford to go. Enjoy it while you can, but soon the spirit of the Sturgis experience will be gone.
