Times Square Records pushed records by his brothers (Lewis Lymon and the Teenchords) and Willie who sang with the Tellers. At that point, Frankie had become an entertainer and his management was trying to sell him to a different audience. Thanks for the post, never saw this interview before

My mom told me that in the 50s, with $5.00, you would buy milk, bread, a whole chicken and come back with change. It was a different time and lower cost of living! So $27 / week was a lot of mula!

They were paid $27.00 per week in allowance! They were worth and making MILLIONS from touring and promotions. If that's not advantageous right there then I don't know what else is :( Those record labels were ruthless and conniving back then and still is. Artists needs to fully understand their rights and their worth. R.I.P Frankie. His innocence was stolen from him.

Such an insane contradiction how singers such as Frankie Lymon were viewed by so many as superstars and rock & roll royalty, while in some parts of our country they had to stay at separate hotels from white people, and had to go to different food establishments, and in some cases were literally attacked and thrown out of places by groups of people.
