I love that y’all appreciate his guitar playing. In the history of Country Music he doesn’t get enough credit for his guitar playing, he gets overlooked. His guitar style was completely unique, he didn’t sound like anybody and nobody could sound like him. On his love videos you can really see his guitar work though.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Waylon Jennings is the greatest country artist of all time. Period. As for his guitar playing, much of the way that Waylon plays guitar was influenced by his close friend Buddy Holly who was a very innovative guitarist in his own right. Had he lived past 21 he might have been considered one of the most influential all time greatest guitarists. It's worth giving a re-listen to what Holly was doing in the 50's and you might hear things that later became standards in rock music by other artists. He was the first to do much of it. That rolling thump in Waylon's playing was something he attributed to being persuaded by Buddy to play bass in his band as a replacement after the original Crickets quit or got fired. By the way, that white guitar you see Waylon playing is the exact same one you've seen him playing at the beginning of every episode of the Dukes of Hazzard.

When Waylon passed, Hank Jr did a tribute song to him about his guitar called Waylon's Guitar. In fact, Hank has Waylon's guitar. They were great friends for over 40 years.

A lot of people don't know that Willie, Waylon, Hank Jr, Merle and a few others can play hell out of their guitars. Hank Jr also plays banjo, steel, fiddle and piano. If you have ever seen the intro to The Dukes of Hazzard the hands we see playing the theme song is Waylon playing. Waylon was in Buddy Holly's band back in the day and was a sought after studio picker. In fact Waylon was scheduled to be on the plane with Buddy the night Buddy died in the crash. Both the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens were guests on the show that night and Bopper was sick. They talked Waylon and another bandmember into giving up their seats on the plane.

I do want to say that y’all put me in a way better mood. I had come home last night and walked in to the house and it felt like an oven , the thermostat said it was 89 inside the house , went outside to look at the unit and the pipe going into it was frozen 🥶, came in turned the heat up wide open and went in the attic and water everywhere, the condenser pump wasn’t working. I finally got it working and got the water up with the shop vac and changed clothes and waited on the cool to come and it did while watching this video. So y’all made a disastrous night better . THANK YOU !!!

In that Waylon is playing lead through the whole song.Reggie Young is lead guitar through this until Waylon goes off at the end. It also has 1more verse so it's about a minute and a half longer. And it has Ralph Mooney on steel,my all-time favorite steel guitarist, taking nothing away from Robbie Turner who plays on this.check out that version sometime

I'm with you Keith, that song needed to be WAY longer! Two things I'd like to point out, pedal steel (not slide) guitar and finger picks. The steel player was Robby Turner and he is an excellent one! There are quite a few kickass steel players, but my favorite was Buddy Emmons, though he died a few years ago. You should check out Buddy Emmons Raisin' the Dickins. He goes back and forth with the piano and it is golden! Love you guys! ✌❤

As Sara said below, during a concert they would often each do several of their own songs.... but they clipped them short to get more into the show. @@saraturner8657 if you ever get a chance to see the behind the scenes footage from the Highwaymen in studio recording their second album you'll see how the very left leaning Kris and Willie got off on irritating a very conservative Waylon Jennings with their leftist paraphernalia, things like hanging Che Guevara posters in their recording booth. Waylon also would make fun of Willie in his solo concerts by holding his finger to his nose to sound nasally when he sang Willie's parts in their duets. I think Waylon at best just tolerated those two more than he loved them. Cash was so middle of the road that just about everybody loved him. As for Willie is the one artist that has more fans that have never heard or could even name a single song he ever wrote or sang and if not for Waylon would be but a footnote in Country music history as a songwriter

Interesting history note... When Waylon was in Buddy Holly's band, he gave up his seat on a plane to the Big Bopper because the Bopper was sick and the tour bus heaters were out. The Big Bopper joked that he hoped Waylon's bus would break down and Waylon bantered back he hoped his ol' plane crashed. He reportedly suffered from some significant survivor's guilt.

Please don't send us money. But yeah, we don't care about cost. We definitely enjoy novelty, so stuff local to you, we probably can't get here. We love that stuff. - Keith

Have you guys listened to The Doo yet? He is a guitar player who never shows his face and no one knows who he is, but he can shred a guitar. (No, he is not country). I will put a link in here so you can watch it if you want. He starts on the piano and the acoustic guitar to set up his back ground music, but then he moves on to what you guys will really like. ruclips.net/video/wvlfMkfoeI0/видео.html
