There's no acting in Grunge. That's what made it special. It came from the heart and soul. There's no acting the torment those guys faced. Also, that interesting style you reference Layne is very famous for. He bends his vowels and either morphs them into another vowel, or into a consonant. That's why you heard "I tried to love you, I thought I coul-rrd." That's just his own style. Many tried to imitate him, none succeeded.
Layne was in another band called Madseason. They had one album together. At this same show here Temple of the Dog performed too. Soundgarden there is a lot from that time. Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Screaming Trees, Mudhoney, TAD most all of those came from Seattle. There is also a track on Alice in Chains EP SAP called Right Turn that has Lanye and Jerry from AIC as well as Chris Cornell and Mark Arm on it. Mark Arm is the singer from Mudhoney and Chris Cornell from Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden, and Audioslave
He was young and healthy at this time - 23 years old. He performed until around 1997, then withdrew. Kind of faded away until he died in 2002 at the age of 34.

👍 can confirm they (AIC) are in fact, a great band. All technically proficient musicians, but it's truly due to Jerry Cantrell that Alice is (imo) the best of Seattle bands. He took his songwriting cues from musicians like Elton John and Willie Nelson, and his playing from Iommi, Young, and Gibbons. He's an exceptionally talented songwriter and a riff lord. They don't have a bad album in their catalog, and while Nevermind by Nirvana is without question the most popular grunge album, Dirt is the best.
i love how she tried to racionalize his voice at beggining later she was like "first he goes up then down then up again" hahahahaahah hes the GOAT he could do anything, while being on H and drunk af...and meds crazy guys, but crazy talented
Alice in Chains made but three studio albums with Layne on vocals. I have those three plus their Jar of Flies/Sap and the 'Unplugged' albums/CD's. Every song on them are good and I never want to "skip" any of them. Yes...he was troubled by his addiction. He did say he wished he never started using drugs. He did another project with other addicts; forming a band called *Mad Season.* I encourage you to listen to some of those songs...when you can. Try: River of Deceit _ Wake Up _ I Don't Know Anything ... and the rest if you like.♥
Love Alice In Chains! Check out their song Would? (Official HD Video) , also the unplugged MTV performance. You also need to check out the band Tool and their live performance of the song Sober in 1993 at the Reading Festival!
Check out "bleed the freak" live at the moore (same concert as this). It's got the dark/mysterious vibe too and it's one of his best performances. Also, "junkhead" (live at the "singles" party). His distortion on the "Junkhead" live performance (and his level of power) is unlike anything. The mtv unplugged stuff is great, but he was in rough shape and not his absolute best.
God i miss him and Chris Cornell. Layne and Chris never used falsetto, just ure high singing power. Chris could cover any song, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, anyone. Type in his cover here, type in , Chris Cornell, live studio version, nothing compares to you.
Watch out with Korn guys that's too deeply dark but I will suggest Mad Season Wake up! Incredible performance and am pretty sure she is into Jazz or Blues
6:12 thats like my impression when i first heard their songs😂 then i looked up the music video and wow the voice really didnt match his face 😂 he was so fricking amazing.
He was 23 here. This song was about his girlfriend/fiance Demri. He did have drug issues but things hadn't started to get bad with that yet. He was still pretty strong. In around 6 years time he had gone from this to a place where he knew drugs were going to kill him and his health was fading but he was still fighting it. Then Demri died from drug related heart complications and even though they had split up by then it hit him hard and not long after that he went into hiding and his body waisted away over the next 6 years until there was not much left of him, he weighed 84 pounds or something at the time of his death and was rarely seen by anyone. It's a sad story
I don't know if the singer from Muse sounds like Layne Staley or not, but if he does, he probably got it from Layne. Many singers in the 90s and beyond were influenced by Layne but no one every reached his level. I looked it up and Muse started around 1994 and Alice In Chains with Layne as the singer was slowing down by that point. You mentioned in either this video or your Man In The Box video that you like some Slipknot and Metallica. Corey Taylor said this: "It has to be Alice In Chains. Alice In Chains, to me, is one of the greatest rock bands that ever was. And I don't just mean that from a grunge standpoint or metal or anything like that. They revolutionized so much musically and they inspired me to change the way I write music. I mean, full stop, period, the end of sentence. "Layne Staley is still one of the greatest fucking singers that ever lived. Now, that is not a reflection of the demons that he had to fight, obviously, and that's everything to do with his talent. He just made it look so fucking easy, and he could sing anything, he could write anything, and the shit that he was writing about was killing him, and yet we loved it. To me, that was the greatest baring of the soul that I ever listened to. And if you need any more proof of that, all you need to do is listen to 'Nutshell'. It's one of the greatest songs ever written. And that's not even my favorite Alice In Chains song. "My favorite Alice In Chains song is 'Would?' Full stop. That song is fucking incredible. But 'Nutshell' is such an outpouring of trying to share with you the darkness that's in his heart. And even though you're hearing it, it's so light, you're just, like, 'Fuck. Where is he?' And we never knew." And Metallica loved Alice In Chains. Some of those guys were pissed off that Alice canceled opening a tour for them (for obvious health reasons) and acted like assholes about it, there's video of it. James Hetfield sang "Would?" at least a couple times and Lars Ulrich and his ex-wife named one of their sons Layne. When were you born? I was born in 1981 and Alice In Chains was my first favorite band. They were very popular and well known from the release of Facelift until the mid 1990s. All their albums with Layne are Platinum. Their EP Jar of Flies was the first EP to debut at #1 on the Billboard chart. I think for people younger than me would not know all this.
That's all right girlfriend you can't do it, I haven't seen a woman yet sing like Layne Staley not even close. Maybe you'll say different pitches are different tones but his style untouchable
React to stone temple Pilots No Memory/Sin Live reading festival 1993. R.i.p Scott Weiland an amazing vocalist and performer. Here is the fully remastered show. The song starts at 4:30 in the video m.ruclips.net/video/gt43gM-cDAk/видео.html&pp=ygUUc3RwIHJlYWRpbmcgZmVzdGl2YWw%3D
If you like the dark vibe, you will like most of the Dirt and Facelift albums. MTV Unplugged is very poignant as he is at the end and still has the voice but not the power

"My favorite Alice In Chains song is 'Would?' Full stop. That song is fucking incredible. But 'Nutshell' is such an outpouring of trying to share with you the darkness that's in his heart. And even though you're hearing it, it's so light, you're just, like, 'Fuck. Where is he?' And we never knew."
And Metallica loved Alice In Chains.
Gotta do “Would?”
React to stone temple Pilots No Memory/Sin Live reading festival 1993. R.i.p Scott Weiland an amazing vocalist and performer. Here is the fully remastered show. The song starts at 4:30 in the video

more aic, from unplugged pls
He was perfect the first parts of the song. He’s intentionally going off key later. It’s supposed to make you feel un at ease as he feels
mic slap
Layne was the best. The top in grunge are Layne, Chris Cornell, Eddie vedder, Scott weiland, Chester Bennington
Layne is singing about his longtime girlfriend/fiancee Demri, and there's definitely no acting in his performance or singing. 😅
If you like the dark vibe, you will like most of the Dirt and Facelift albums. MTV Unplugged is very poignant as he is at the end and still has the voice but not the power
🥰

Please reaction vocalist band Creed Scott stapp , for me best vocalist rock live . Creed Song: what if practice RUclips, incredibile vocalist
You have good points… but you gotta stop pausing it so many times in such short intervals… Christ, he cannot even finish the first few bars without you stopping it right in the middle of the “feel”.. take the pauses during vocal or guitar action transitions ffs…
Otherwise you have a good take on the song and the vocals 😊
He is an incredibly tortured man with a magnificent voice, and with the songwriting, guitar skills and vocal harmonies, these were my Kings of “Grunge” hands down
I went to treatment with Layne twice, the second time he was in horrible shape 😓
Why do all these vocal coaches mimic the singers? Just give us the breakdown
This was a sober year for Lane don’t be so quick to be yourself in front of us.
Great reaction and analysis of the techniques Layne used in this track.
