Live at the Moore and MTV unplugged are AMAZING! You should listen watch the entire set of both. He was very sick from drugs during the MTV unplugged and it had been a while since the group had performed together but it was unbelievable. He was just so talented, they all were. To me, these lives were better than the albums.

I didn’t see this particular show but I did get to see them in the 90’s when I was just entering high school. I actually prefer them live but love everything they did. They were always funny and playing jokes on each other. My friend was a bouncer in Seattle at a club they played at a lot. He said Layne was always joking with him. One night Layne had just bought a bike so he walks in with his helmet on talking like Darth Vader and told my friend “Joe, I am your father” Every story of Layne is like that, people loved him bc he was a genuine, nice, funny guy. Miss him so much!!

You MUST do Jar Of Flies next, then Self Titled/Tripod and top it off finally MTV Unplugged.

I saw Have a Nice Life a couple nights ago in DC, and it was incredible. The energy was electric, and their frontman was insanely entertaining. Someone actually posted the whole show onto RUclips, but it doesn't quite capture the power of seeing it live. Live shows really are something special.
The best live recording I've heard has to be the live performance of Long Season by Fishmans at Akasaka Blitz. It's a 40-minute song that ended a 2-hour performance. It ended up being the band's last performance as their lead singer, Shinji Sato, unfortunately passed away from heart failure 3 months later. It's an incredible performance, and the whole live album is actually my favorite album of all-time.

Layne is intend the GOAT. Best voice to ever accompany a detuned guitar. Kind of hard to believe this really happened but it did. Layne did very few takes in the studio, whatever his process was he was talented enough to project what he heard in his head. He has so many live performances where his singing just doesn't seem humanly possible. There will never be another Layne, so thankful for what he gave us.

Also, I was pretty young when AIC came out and I am so lucky that given that I am from Seattle and they were already popular here before Facelift was released, but I believe We die Young was already getting radio play when they played at the local / annual Bumbershoot Festival. I was 9. My friend’s sister was babysitting us she was like 18,19,20? And wanted to see them and said F it and we got dragged along and were stoked to be at the Seattle Center (rides)… and anyways at 9 years old I stood there mesmerized by this enigmatic weird looking dude on stage giving me goosebumps and sending chills up and down my spine… at 9. I didn’t know why but he was that good.
Then at 15 I was blessed to see one of three Mad Season Shows, the one that was recorded at the Moore theater. It was special. At 15, I was hit by Mad Season’s whole vibe, Layne’s singing, Mikey’s guitar, John’s bass and Barrett’s drumming. As an adult, I understand that what connected me and many to Alice and Mad Season was Layne putting himself out there to the world that he too suffered. He really connected with people through is gift. I am blessed beyond but I feel like if I got to see that show now, I would have a cathartic yet emotional breakdown.
