    Yo! I interned for the company that made kappa Mikey and Threes Delivery.
    They were called Animation Collective. I was a Flash cutter and my job was to work on putting the storyboards together in flash for the key animators. I really wanted to work on Kappa Mikey. But they told me the show was cancelled. So they put me in the *sigh* Speed racer the next Generation department. It was not a good show. The only good thing out of that series was the voice actors who were super nice. This was during 2008 when we had that recession and the studio was under money issues. Let's just say heavy ones. There is an article about it on Cartoon Brew.
    But I did get to see the production of Threes Delivery and I was able to work on one episode of Thumb Wrestling Federation that was on Cartoon Network.
    The company no longer exists but for being an animation studio in NYC it was an experience.

    • @squirmlygoof
      @squirmlygoof 6 лет назад +5

      That's really awesome that you worked there. How was the experience & what year did you start working at Animation Collective?

    • @YokoChanAdventures
      @YokoChanAdventures 6 лет назад +19

      @@squirmlygoof It was an experience that's all I have to say. It was a tough time when I worked there because it was around 2008. So that's when the recession hit and they were hiring interns to do the grunt work. I didn't like Speed Racer the Next Generation but I did learn a more lot about Flash and implementing it with Maya and After Effects. I honestly wanted to work on Kappa Mikey. I loved that show. But it ended right when I arrived. I worked on just Flash Cutting which was basically setting up keyframes and putting the story boards together for the actual animators. I also did this for some others shows like Three's Delivery and some others that never saw the light of day.Most of the inbetweens were done by FatKat studios and I had to run all over Manhatten to Send files to either the post office or to places that required sound to be edited. The studio was not managing things money wise well. If you go on Cartoon Brew and look up FatKat Studios it talks about animation collective and its ups and downs but I noticed they took down an article. AC was sold. But yeah....It was an experience.

    I LOVED the X's. The writing seemed so fresh when I was 11. I distinctly remember an episode where the punk daughter wanted to have her first sleep over and of course while the three girls she could convince to come are watching movies in her room, the house (which was a crazy dope tactical base) was put into flight mode and shot into space. All the tv's in the house turn into navigation screens automatically. Their cover is blown. Until one of the girls says "this sci-fi movie's so cheesy! You can practically see the strings!" All is well.

    I won the first Making Fiends contest online, back when I was 12 and it was just a Flash webtoon. I still have the original package I got in the mail from Amy Winfrey, with 4 signed art prints. I also have the 2 web series DVD’s. I remember first discovering her cartoons around the time Homestar Runner was popular in the early 2000’s. She had a series of shorts called Muffin Films, followed by Big Bunny.
    Then the first episode of Making Fiends came out. I remember waiting months for her to create new episodes. Hard to believe the online series lasted an entire 2 seasons. The art contest was a very proud moment in my childhood, I still look back on that fondly, as my life did not turn out well otherwise. Wonderful cartoons such as Making Fiends were the only things I can say I’m glad I can look back on.

      I knew about the Tak show through the games because I grew up playing them since I was 5 years old. Tak was my childhood platformer mascot of choice next to Pac-Man, Wario, Sonic, Mario. After the Tak games stopped being made, I moved to Crash Bandicoot.
      It's also interesting how you brought up the contest of kids submitting cartoon ideas. I remember seeing the commercials. There was a two page Nick Magazine ad that wanted kids to draw a character, write a short paragraph about the character, then tear the pages off and send it to Nickelodeon. I wanted to join the contest, but my mom wouldn't allow me to enter because she found my drawing and the handwriting of the characters' (I drew four characters on their provided panel) bio sloppy.

    Making Fiends and Kappa Mikey was my shit back in the day. i adored those shows, especially Making Fiends. i don't know why, but even as a kid, i loved the macabre sense of humour and the dark style the show had. i guess that may have partially influenced my own art style today.
    also i saw Tak and 3 Delievery a couple times, and they were ok i guess.

    Dude this is the same company that has ruined the lives of a decades worth of animators and has left a permanent black spot on Nick as being one of the worst places to work baring maybe Disney. Chris Savino got his ass thrown out of Nick and blacklisted from the industry forever but LOL Viacom owns Loud House so now Chris gets to watch his creation get the Spongebob effect being left responsible in the hands of people he doesn't even know.
    Klasky Csupo isn't allowed to work on shit without Viacom sending them a cease and desist letter telling them we own your ass fucking comply with your assimilation.
    I swear its like Nick is more into the idea of killing the animation industry that having it evolve with the times.

    There are four fairly obscure shows from my childhood that I liked: The Secret World of Alex Mack; The Littl' Bits; Eureeka's Castle; and Phil of the Future. Of those four, Eureeka's Castle was by far my favorite. Wall-o-text ahead for brief synopses.
    The Secret World of Alex Mack was about a girl who got toxic waste spilled on her or something and got a superpower that let her turn her whole body into liquid and back again. From what I remember, she'd mostly use her power to sneak into places for the sake of shenanigans. I think it was on Nick, but I can't remember for sure.
    The Littl' Bits was an anime-style show about little people (like gnomes but not quite) living in a forest. I watched the show when I was 4 and only remembered a tiny bit about it, and I just found out the name of the show a couple years ago.
    Eureeka's Castle was one of my favorite shows when I was really little, and I liked it even more than Sesame Street. It was a Sesame Street-style show about a friendly witch named Eureeka who lived in a castle with her friends (including a bat guy and a dragon), and the castle itself was also a music box owned by a giant. I'm pretty sure it aired on Nick Jr, and I'm still really bummed that it's never been released on DVD. Only a few episodes are available online.
    Phil of the Future was a Disney Channel show about a kid from the future who gets stuck in our time (meaning like early 2000s), and shenanigans ensue. It's a pretty straightforward show, but I remember liking the few episodes of it I saw. One episode in particular revolved around Phil trying to learn how to write, because he comes from so far in the future that nobody writes anymore since their writing is all just typed.
    Also, not a tv show, but my favorite Disney Channel movie was Stepsister from Planet Weird, which was about a girl and her dad, who come from a planet of bubble people, coming to Earth and becoming part of a human family. I don't know if it counts as obscure, but I haven't seen anybody talk about it, so maybe it fits here.
