In the nightclub district ( 5th up to 10th) at night there are sometimes problems. Like any city. I actually lived in that area for 3 weeks. Behind a bikini store. Never noticed any major issues like shooting. If there was there would be a much heavier police presence, as I know the Mexican government knows its a high tourist area.
