"If you like the Vieux Carre or the La Louisiane, you should try this drink" is an instant sell for me. Anders introduced me to that whole New Orleans family of cocktails, and they've quickly become some of my absolute favorites.
As someone who has served these drinks to the tackiest of people (horse racing enthusiasts and the nouveau riche) for years now, I really appreciate this. Doubly, as someone who lives in Baltimore, I REALLY appreciate the Preakness cocktail and the Black-Eyed Susan (as awful a drink as it is and thank you for including the context of the time period being what makes the drink laughable) being included and getting their due. From what I know historically, the Preakness cocktail was the OG official cocktail of the race, before the vodka drinkers ruined everything. Thank you Anders, much appreciated!
We embarked on a journey to experience classic cocktails in 2024, 12 drinks in 12 months. Your recipes are awesome, but your humor and stories are wonderful. Love Oz too! Thanks.
The Man 'o War is one of my favorite cocktails. As someone who likes to add a little Grand Marnier to a Whiskey Sour, it's essentially a combo of the Whiskey Sour and Manhattan recipes that I prefer.
The Preakness was awesome. It's like a manhattan meets an old fashioned, but the use of benedictine as the sweet component really brings so much dimension to the party. I also love the use of Old Grand Dad bonded here... it's my absolute favorite for old fashioneds. Although, Mellow Corn makes a mean one as well.
I don’t know about anyone else but I feel like these videos would be perfect for a Thursday release instead of a Friday. Get some ideas in mind before your Friday/ Saturday gatherings. Just a thought, love the videos!
Literally, the Black eyed Susan was breathtaking😊 Preakness just tasted of vermuth. With the Black eyed Susan I had not orqnge peel to make the "regal" shake, but it was outstanding❤️ Putting it to my reportoar😉
Andre’s I know you have a lot of subscribers so you might not get this but I wanted to thank you. I’m so very much enjoying trying out your cocktail recipes at home. And in the case of of this video, it’s a good thing I’m working at home and not driving 😂❤
Hilarious and informative as always, Anders & Az, thank you! The one that got my attention was the Preakness, although I'll be making it with Rye Whiskey as I don't have Bourbon. Cheers!
Great video, very informative and enjoyable. My Man O' War uses less Curaçao and 1/6 oz Demerara, and no bitters. Now, I'm curious, so I'm going to up the Curaçao and keep the sugar and see what's what. As always, thank you my friend for my continuing education! Cheers!
Definitely going to be making the P realness cocktail. I love how bourbon and Benedictine taste together. I think that will be my official horse racing drink.
As always amazing line up of cocktails you show us Anders. It would be awesome to create a cocktail with Blanton's Bourbon since it's cork topper has a jockey on his thoroughbred but, I understand it's a cardinal sin in the bartending world to use a higher quality spirit in a cocktail. 😅 P.S. nice lemon coil garnish at the end there always a crowd pleaser.
We were discussing just last weekend (Derby weekend) mint juleps. Across the board, various bartenders steered us all AWAY from them..."but I might like it" "NO you won't. Let me make you something you WILL like!" LOL
lol this is awesome. Happy to learn new cocktails regardless of the reason. Desert cocktails series would be awesome too. Great content as usual Anders!
Oh, it’s been a whole since I made your Queens Park Super Cocktail, and it got rave reviews last time. Looks like tonight it’s gonna be a matchup between that and Man O’ War, perhaps a photo finish! 🐎
It's great to see how you adjust the recipes to improve the flavours of the finished cocktails! Did Az get to taste any this week? I always enjoy her feedback at the end of the videos!
😮 Horsey! LOL. I wish I could catch these videos in the moment... My preferences out of laziness is simple stir and sip cocktails. Shaken ones are great fun but are so messy.
The Black Eyed Susan is interesting. Not a huge vodka guy, but using it as a means of adding subtlety to certain spirits is a useful application. American whiskeys are strong in both proof and character, so it's sometimes nice to tame the base spirit with something besides sugar and acid -- the same relationship as gin and vodka in the Vesper. Vodka and bourbon also sounds like an interesting and more desirable alternative to vanilla vodka.
Funnily enough, for the Black Eyed Susan, the bourbon got somewhat lost in the cocktail even though I used 2oz of it rather than a 1:1 split with vodka. Perhaps my shaking wasn't on point, or maybe it's kind of inevitable with this kind of drinks, but I didn't predict a full 2oz of Evan Williams BIB getting overshadowed by this much. I added another 0.5oz of bourbon to the completed drink, stirred it up, and I liked it much more. Nonetheless I think it's a very accessible and refreshing drink. I'll probably try this one again with barrel proof bourbon. It's got potential.
Thank you Anders. Could you please give me some advice for what to do with a rum spicing kit that I received last Christmas? It’s got cinnamon, bay leaves and other dried herbs, that I don’t recognize. Any advice welcome and thanks once again for your great videos!
The only thing popping in my mind when you said "man o'war" were a bunch of dudes in leather underpants playing over the top epic heavy metal😂 Didn't know there was a jellyfish called like that
Maryland is crazy about Orange Crush'es... they claim a bar in OC MD called Harborside created the drink. I dont know how true that is. Also you have the O's in Baltimore, which the bird and colors are orange so yeah MD is crazy about orange crushes.
New er to the channel. Love your videos and take on recipes. Do you use or recommend an app for storing, creating recipes, searchable by what you have at home?
I wish you would quit horsing around and get to cocktails, that is the mane point right? I really have to hand it to you these are some excellent drinks. You can really feel it in the withers, neigh the bones.
I had a triple sec once that was sickeningly sweet. Thought it was such a crappy addition to drinks for that reason, and made a vow to never use it in anything again. But you're saying they're supposed to be DRY?!!
Dry is relative here. Triple sec is still a liqueur, but traditionally they're less rich than curaçao. Unfortunately, quality and sweetness levels vary because there aren't strict rules for orange liqueurs.

The brilliance of your channel is the modifications you make to improve the cocktail rather than just making what anyone could read somewhere. Cheers!
Cheers! Hope you enjoy the recipes
This is so true! and not only just showing us his modifications but teaching us how to modify and make cocktails perfect for our own palettes
This has been the greatest description of this channel!

Love this. Cheers
Anders, you should write a book with all of this history, drink recipes and stories from your time as a bartender.

I'm sure Old Grand Dad feels very seen today. That curmudgeon deserves a break. Thanks Anders!
Some good ones for if you're having the neigh-bours around

Morph! Yes, it is a word. Loving the ‘70s rant
I truly do love your channel, Anders. Your enthusiasm and your little bits of history really make my day! Cheers to you!
Thanks so much! Happy weekend
🐎 Charge to the bar 🐎 thanks for another classic, Anders!
Ehhh kinda to hot already for charge... I will prefer to gallop to the bar

Bourbon cocktails are my fav, so I loved this video!!! More please!!
Made The Belmont Jewel. It may have become one of my favourite drinks.
I remember my Man-o-War kick (in 1999 in San Diego). Good stuff!
Man O' War is a great under-radar bourbon sour. Glad you dug it up.
Glad to see the Man o war here! I stumbled upon it on Diffords guide a while back and found it really tasty and unique.
I don’t know about anyone else but I feel like these videos would be perfect for a Thursday release instead of a Friday. Get some ideas in mind before your Friday/ Saturday gatherings. Just a thought, love the videos!
The Screwdriver is the GenX of cocktails-both do the best they can with what’s available. 😂
Preakness & Man o War are right up my street, will be building them for sure, cheers again Anders 🥃
Cheers and happy weekend

Was just at the Oaks and Derby. Wish I had seen this prior to the trip! Good stuff!!
AWESOME!!!
More wonderful cocktails to make and enjoy! Thanks! Keep up the greatness!
Man O’ War is our go-to cocktail. We like ours with rye. Excited to try your version!
Great list! My favourite is The Preakness with a 100% Rye! Thanks Anders!
I, too, am a fan of both the Preakness and the Man O' War. I will have to revisit them with your specs!
Looking forward to making them all. Thx & cheers! 🥃🥃
TO THE BAR!➡️🥃
We made the Preakness and the Man’O War tonight! Thanks for all of the amazing cocktails over the years!
My family is from Lexington, hope you get to visit Kentucky one day if you haven’t already. Cheers Anders

I am definitely making the Preakness and Man of war! I have everything already in my bar🍸😁

You are special
Everyone is a unique little snowflake
Giddy up to the bar!!
Of course you meant Secretariat. Love them all.
The Man O’War was very nice indeed. Thanks for the Triple Crown survey. :-)
my Belmont jewel is 1 part pomegranate juice, two parts lemonade, 1 part bourbon.
Great show thank you!
Oh, it’s been a whole since I made your Queens Park Super Cocktail, and it got rave reviews last time. Looks like tonight it’s gonna be a matchup between that and Man O’ War, perhaps a photo finish! 🐎
That julep is gorgeous! Nothin’ is perfect, but damn.
Well done, seriously.
Horses and cocktails?? Best video ever!!

Can you make a video reviewing Costco/Kirkland hard alcohols and let us know if they are worth purchasing
Like the idea. Need to get a membership
Fair but the membership is totally worth it

The man of war is my absolute favorite very complete drink flavor wise
You are hilarious!🎉
love whatever u did to that lemon peel on man o war
Hi Anders - can you do a video on the Enzoni?
Finally the man o war gets some love !

are there any drinks that relate to formula1 that you could show us? Monaco GP is coming!
"Crazy drunkards" is what the Preakness is all about.....😂😂😂
Am I the only one that kinda sees JFK in the reflection on the tin at 7:20
Why am I so stuck on and sad he didn’t call us his “friends” in the beginning 🥺😅…
Just playing 🤭
Thanks again Az, Freya & Anders! Cheers 🥂🤍

Still the best...
In making sour cocktails, I was wondering if you've ever used aquafaba powder instead of just the juice from a can of chickpeas? Cheers!
the Stirred Sipper
You are far too nice to vodka, Anders. :D
I LOVE MY KENTUCKY MINT JULEP. I mean how simple can it get? Sherry AND Grenadine? In a mixed drink? Give me a break Yanks LOLOL
I have my money on the first runner, Mint Julep at 5/2, good odds on a proven winner.
11:29. Don't mind at all.
Other cocktails play, Man-o-war kill!
Coincidentally your man o war garnish looks kinda like the man of war jellyfish.
Does the Kentucky Buck count as a horse themed cocktail? Because it's delicious, refreshing and very summery.
If the horseshoe fits
"i know i complicated the lineup...but you don't mind."
The truth, from a prophet hisownself.
Where is the Horse's Neck cocktail? It made from 1 part of brandy, 3 parts of ginger ale and a spiral of lemon peel.
1. Find horse. 2. Find bottle of bourbon. 3. Sit on horse. 4. Open bottle. 5. Drink 😊
Thanks for sharing your recipe. Cheers
nothing like drinkin and ridin
