I bought your grenadine it's fucking AMAZING, but it says limited run on the order form... will the place that made it be carrying it long term or was this a one time made batch?
Greetings from Romania! I started watching your videos and coctails about a year ago. They are awesome :O I got my first coctail set for my birthday, and i am real👏ly excited to try all your recipe. Keep up the good work 😁🥳
I had most of the ingredients on hand - including the amazing grenadine! (No lemons so I just used lime). And of course I don’t have the fancy blender. But so tasty!!
Yes! I love this cocktail! I made it with 2oz of the Hamilton Pot Still Black like in Smuggler's cove! Dr.Funk is the perfect name because as you drink it "funky" (in a good way) is the first word that just keeps coming to your mind. I also bought a $20 milk frother for flash blending my drinks and it works pretty well!
I have my own riff on this inspire by Tower of Power that I call The Funky Doctor. It's a bit stronger in that I use three really funky rums: Probitas, Smith & Cross, and Hamilton Jamaican Black. I also swap out the absinthe for all spice dram. Just remember, hipness is what it is, but sometimes hipness is what it ain't.
Just made it today; used Smith & Cross, some Dr. Bird, and some Wray & Nephew. Outstanding. Oh, and I’m not saying I made a trip out to Portland just to get the grenadine, but it was a definite must stop at Portland Syrups when out there.
That’s a tasty drink. I didn’t have Fijian cane rum so mixed 1/4 ounce paranubes and a 1/2 ounce prohibitas, alongside 3/4 ounce of the ultimate Mai Jamaican mix. Very nice
Hi Anders! Your videos are awesome! Since long time! The presentations are precise, stylish, informative and it's well cut/assembled. Always! Thank you a lot! Your videos are a real present/gift/gem to the community! And btw: you german pronunciation of 'funk' comes with a heavy american accent, which is fine, guessing you didn't have lots of practice on this. I love the dialects and accents of my mothertounge. Der 'Funk' translates to wireless or radio, while der 'Funken' translates to spark, but this is another story... Cheers and zum Wohl!
Yes, you could have an after show where you and Oz just enjoy the cocktails and shoot the shit. This would be especially entertaining with episodes like the recent one where you sampled 10 different grenadine cocktails.
I'll have to check it out tonight. On the plus side, I already have all the ingredients. I love this show. Thanks for including Oz, even if she wasn't on camera. I always enjoy another person's opinion on the drink.
Good sir, i have never enjoyed absinthe in a cocktail other than as a spritz of the glass before this. Awesome drink! I'm in southern Illinois and have very limited syrup options available, so I have made your grenadine from the beginning of my cocktail interests. Glad your able to make it commercially available!! Get that bag, dude 🍻
Sorry, but: 'Der Schiss' is incorrect translation. The meaning of 'Schiss' is literally shit or fear - such a big fear you shit yourself. But the meaning of 'Funk' is wireless or radio or broadcast. So no funky funks. Just to clear ehhhmm things out.
We bought Anders' grenadine from Portland Spirits last week and it truly is amazing! Will be buying more soon. And will try other syrups from Portland.
I finally got a bottle of Absinthe in my bar (I got Lucid, I like it pretty well so far!) and I'm very excited to mix up some cocktails like this one. I have Smith & Cross and I hope that might work for my funk, if anyone else has other suggestions lmk!
I made the Mexican Firing Squad with your grenadine, it was very good; can't wait to try the Dr. Funk. Your grenadine vs Rose's, no comparison, yours is so much better. Never going back to the cheap stuff!
Buying some sparkling water today! I’ve got everything else already (except rum from Fiji). Think I’ll do a split of Smith and Cross rum and Plantation 5 Year.
Wish your grenadine was available in Sweden, everything we have in stores here is literally raspberry syrup labeled as grenadine (it really does not contain pomegranate at all). But I’ve made my own using your recipe, so ’tis all good!
Another great episode! I do feel conflicted about the grenadine because I all ready make it homemade (per your instruction) and I can't imagine it getting any better.😅
Hi Anders, a beachy , island vibe with Doctor Funk!👌👌👌 I will follow doctor’s orders and have a delicious tiki drink..👏👏👏…milkshake blender on hand regularly in my kitchen, but it’s much smaller!🤣🤣 Enjoy the weekend and as always “CHEERS!”❤️❤️🥃🥃
We will add this to our tiki menu. We have added your grenadine and tried most of the drinks from the grenadine announcement video. We also added your rocks glasses, bar mat, and t shirt for our bar. The local craft cocktail we want you to visit here in Florida has been featured twice as the training site for Bar Rescue. We are going to one of the rescue bars tonight as a matter of fact.
I love your videos and your presentation. I have made many of you cocktail. Only thing is I live in the UK and can not always get many spirits hete. Life sucks some times
Hi Anders, 2 things.. 1) what would be a good substitute for Fiji rum? And second, i just received my Grenadine from Portland syrups.. and yes, that is some AMAZING stuff! I also purchased the Orgeat tiki syrup which is extremely good as well.
SAME. I was so excited, tossed it in a cart and left it there when I saw the shipping. I get that it’s out of anyone’s control and especially sucks for small businesses but yeeeeks. Ya know? 😂
Hi @andersErickson, native German and French speaker here... "Funk" is indeed pronounced "Foonk", and the translation has nothing to do with the music genre, but would translate into "wireless radio". As for "Cafard", the literal translation from French is "cockroach", but to "have the cafard" (an expression popularized by author Charles Baudelaire), means to be in a melancholic mood.
Will your grenadine go bad in the fridge after a month or two of being open? Any stabilizers in it for longevity? If I make my own with Pom sugar and rose water it doesn’t last that long and generally isn’t worth making.
Awesome video and great drink. You did miss a great opportunity to use Doctor Bird’s Jamaican rum. Doctor is in the name, and it’s got a great “Funk” to it. Definitely can only be used in small doses though 😂
That's right, because Funk (or Funke / Funken) means spark and the first radios were based on sparks (pop spark transmitters), hence the word Funk for radio. Dr Funk's name is much older though. So my theory is that his ancestors were blacksmiths or fireworkers. Funk, Funck, Funke and Funcke are common family names in Germany.
Love my immersion blender too, but the results differ. The milkshake blender just whips the drink, adding air. The immersion blender grinds everything up to make it more of a smoothie. Not that smoothie's are a bad thing
I have noticed a bottle of Centerba for quite some time in your background. Any chance you have some history and cocktails for that? I have only had it when my Italian neighbour digs it out as a shot during the holidays.
What are a few rums you would substitute for that Fijian rum? I’ve never tasted rum from there, but I do have rums from lots of other places. Ha ha. I love rum.
Anyone else mixing up drinks with a milkshake blender?
Pretty much do it all the time at home. It’s a shoulder saver 😂

@@AndersErickson Yep but only for cocktails containing juices that froth up like pineapple juice. For others I just shake.

Congrats on the flash blender, wow that has been a long time coming
Never would have guessed that the name Dr. Funk was actually based on a doctor named Funk.
Surprised me when I first heard it too
Just made it. I could have used a better rum and only had herbsaint but we work with what we’ve got. Overall it is fantastic, really really good
Yes!! I’m so excited about this one, those are some awesome ingredients!
Looks gorgeous! Thanks!
I can attest to the awesomeness of the Portland Syrup x Anders grenadine! I picked up a bottle as soon as I saw it - outstanding!!!
Another great show, Anders!! The energy! The excitement! The fantastic editing! Keep 'em coming!!
I have visited RLS's grave on top of Mt Vaea in Apia, Samoa. A 40min walk to get there and the view is breathtaking.
I suffer from cafard anytime I find my hand devoid of a tiki drink. This recipe seems legit.

Doctor Birds works!!
Der Funk, der Schiss...pretty interesting, and we all get depressed sometimes. We can get symptom relief from this Dr. Funk Rx.

Used doctor bird and planteray isle of Fiji. This was killer. Didn't have any pineapple fronds on hand so I used a dehydrated lemon wheel. A+ from me!

Great cocktail Anders! I really appreciate your love of Tiki! Also the proper pronunciation would be Fijian (Fa-gee-in) rum or Fijian people.
Thanks for all the education and entertainment, you two! Anders, loving the Howler Bros. shirt... sponsorship relationship?!?!
Im from Germany: you pronounced it well :-)
Yeah, it's Funk with the U as in Tunesia, not in Punk.
Funk or Funke means "spark" in German, so Dr Funk's ancestors were probably blacksmiths or fireworkers ...
Ooh with the Holmes Cay Fiji. Very nice! I got to try some of that at the rum tasting at the Lincoln Park Binny's last week. Good stuff!
As a fellow Funk, I am excited to try this.
I can’t wait to try it. The Doctor is in!

Yeah that should be good in there. Of course only one way to find out! Cheers

Isle of Fiji may give positive results but it's very different than the Holmes Cay. Lacks the funky fruity notes.
