Ok, I came here intending to be really nitpicky and pedantic about the words (all of these swords are too old to technically be "katana" but are rather "tachi," for example) but then just sat and listened to very old Japanese stories which I'm a sucker for. I actually translate stories from the 今昔物語集 and put them up here and I'm literally just now working on putting up the story for Masakado's rebellion and have several already out about oni with more in the future. I'm a huge fan of the Heian Period and earlier and super glad I found your channel. I'll be keeping tabs on your work, sir.
Thank you for your comment. Japanese oni stories are truly fascinating, and they are not just fantasy but also reflect the history of those times well. I am from the Tohoku region, so I love the history of the Heian period. I subscribed to your channel!
What I especially like about your videos, is the correct pronunciation during the narration of the videos. Obviously you’re Japanese and you make it much easier to understand the language and how to pronounce the words correctly. As usual, another interesting source of information. Thanks for sharing.
i wonder why many "classical paints" from japan depicting warriors or samurais fighting, they are holding the swords in a very distinct way differently from todays forms i know about, they are depicted holding the sword with the index finger above the guard/tsuba slightly similar to chinese sword form.
For the last story, I tried to get the correct spelling of the name of the esoteric practitioner of Cosmology, and the name of the Oni and the mountain that the Oni inhabited. Unfortunately, the English Subtitles and Transcript fail at showing the correct spelling and even fail at showing the full names. This isn't the first time RUclips has done this. I will write down each of said names according to how they sound, applying spelling common to the language. Hopefully I can get close to the actual spelling that google will recognize it and take it from there.
All I can hear when I hear this AI voice is Mako from Conan “Between the time when the oceans drank Atlantis and the rise of the sons of Aryas, there was an age undreamed of. And unto this, Conan, destined to wear the jeweled crown of Aquilonia upon a troubled brow. It is I, his chronicler, who alone can tell thee of his saga. Let me tell you of the days of high adventure!”
There were plenty of giant skeletons found (7-10 feet) throughout the U.S under giant burial mounds, some were found to have horns protruding from the skulls. Perhaps these beings were the descendants of the Nephilim that survived the floods, its already known that some of them survived, not impossible to conceive of, even many other cultures have their giant legends. I speculated that "Bigfoot, Yeti, Sasquatch etc; are lost races of Giants/Ogres/Trolls.
@@Kamamura2There's plenty of references anybody could show you, problem is none of them are reliable. There's newspaper articles and shipping records, but everything has either been lost to time or got 'sent to the Smithsonian' and promptly was either debunked, vanished, or never existed. That said, there's enough photos floating around of ones that are supposed to be in private collections to provide a nebulous atmosphere about the whole thing.
Thank you for watching. I am glad you got to know the true history of oni! The Emishi are from my hometown, and I have always wanted to make this video.
@@ghostrecon8313well honestly swords are swords but the difference is if it's viewed as art or mere weapons from culture. or if it's school or smith is named. or if they have good looking tool spirits inside them-

Very well told, I was sitting at the edge of my chair hearing it.
The art of storytelling this well is rare.

Very interesting stories!👍✌️

That's a myth. There is no historical proof that they looked like clowns.
