my favorite part about the post-stroggification is how immersive it was for it's time! after becoming a strogg you were able to understand what the strogg said, your hud becomes stroggified, back then this was crazy

First time I played the game and got to stroggofication process, I was like "Nah, it's gonna be cool, my buddies will save me before the chainsaw cuts me" I was 9 YO lmao Still remember like it was yesterday and replay the game at least once a year
@Samuel Skala it's only the part of the anesthesia that make your body paralyzed It's possible to make a person paralyzed enough to not get out of the strogg pain bed but not enough to make small movements like the arms and legs struggle

Instead, we have this current era of garbage.

Well not really. They save you at possibly the best time since the character can understand strogg language and such but doesn't have the chip to make him obey the strogg making him the perfect asset.

It's the lighting, same deal with FEAR! Had to do some troubleshooting to fix the textures when I reinstalled Q4 onto win10 and fixed the textures but things still looked like junk! Then I realized I messed up the ambient lighting in the game. Its crazy just how much the lights can affect things

That needle must have had a HEAVY a pretty strong tranquilizer, otherwise our main character would have been bleeding to death LONG before the transformation was done as his heart would be pumping like crazy from all the stress and pain.
The first thing they did was inject him with nanites. They pretty much cause accelerated regeneration in the host's living tissue. That's why he didn't bleed out and maybe why he didn't pass out from shock.
@@SirBigWater That would not stop the strogg from dying from infections after going throgh his unhygienic process. So yes they already infected with nanites at that point.
It was probably tons of adrenaline. This also explains the boosted max health value. If y'remember, in Quake 2, whenever y'collected an Adrenaline tube, y'got a +1 health to your grand total. By the end of the game, y'could have moar than 140 health 😊

Also not all shot in chest with a bullet directly near heart died. In some situations adrenaline injection directly in heart is only way to keep you alive.
I have no experience with western dentists. But regular dentistry in USSR at 1970-80-ies was quite like that. Still remember that scene in dentist's corridor at begin of eighties: half-dark, gray walls, all waiting patients with impending doom written over their faces... someone screaming behind wall. Bizzarre thing.
I played this game's campaign a week ago. It's still thrilling and fun. There's just so many things special about Quake 4 and its campaign. It didn't hold back on the gory and gruesome horrors of war, and THAT'S what helped to actually immerse you into the story as a player. Not many games do that anymore, and that's why I appreciate this game's story.
Ya Raven was legendary for their Soldier of Fortune game's memorable dismemberment and violent gunshot mechanics, so no surprise they didn't hold back developing Quake.
Zpp Policeman33 rip raven software. They had such potential, and made some really incredible games. Imagine what they could do today as an independent studio.
When I was playing this game as a kid the first few hours of the game had me immersed as hell ! I loved every bit of it and I was kinda sad that over the time you became one man army instead of working with your squad at all times.

Also, there's a roomer, that when the US found out, they told them to stop immediately OR just give them a copy of all the data they had accumulated so far and could continue. That was also probably one the reasons for dropping the nuke in 1945 as well, just to scare them
By the way Quake 4 (and Doom 3 as well) had native Linux port. Pity that Carmack forgot about Linux with his later games. Though Quake 2016 run just fine in Linux under Steam Play/Proton. Maybe Carmack at least will do Quake 4 remake - Proton will do the rest.
I don't have a PC, would love to play it without using my 360. It runs like dogshit during fights, especially boss fights where it looks like a slideshow. Especially Quake 2, I hope that gets a re release like Quake did. I still have my bonus disc that came with Quake 4 on launch that has Quake 2 on 360. Slightly remastered for the console. Is great still.
They really dedicated like an entire act to this. Quake was fucking dedicated with the immersion. For a character that couldn't talk you really felt what he was going through.
The sound of the shotgun probably is most brutal in the whole FPS genre. So fucking powerful, bassy and raw! Great sound design! I probably should replay Q4

that part when the ship get shot down by that missile reminds me of another game called Red Faction. I think it was the first one where you were a miner on mars. There escape ship blew up the same way. Good memories.

7:12 I remember feeling so bad when as a kid I saw Anderson die. I liked the first part of the game so much that to this day I remember the whole Rhino crew's names so I took a liking to them before watching him and Voss pass.

I played this game's campaign a week ago. It's still thrilling and fun. There's just so many things special about Quake 4 and its campaign. It didn't hold back on the gory and gruesome horrors of war, and THAT'S what helped to actually immerse you into the story as a player. Not many games do that anymore, and that's why I appreciate this game's story.
I wish there was a sequel for Quake 4
Ya Raven was legendary for their Soldier of Fortune game's memorable dismemberment and violent gunshot mechanics, so no surprise they didn't hold back developing Quake.

Zpp Policeman33 rip raven software. They had such potential, and made some really incredible games. Imagine what they could do today as an independent studio.

The combines are obviously inspired by the Strogg and the Borg in a way
most of half life is inspired by Quake, for the most part the engine.
When I was playing this game as a kid the first few hours of the game had me immersed as hell ! I loved every bit of it and I was kinda sad that over the time you became one man army instead of working with your squad at all times.

AFAIK he is injected wit' tons of adrenaline, hence he won't really feel THAT much pain. It also explains the increased max-health after being stroggificated (in Quake 2, if you collect an Adrenaline tube, you get a +1 health to your grand total).

Also, there's a roomer, that when the US found out, they told them to stop immediately OR just give them a copy of all the data they had accumulated so far and could continue. That was also probably one the reasons for dropping the nuke in 1945 as well, just to scare them

By the way Quake 4 (and Doom 3 as well) had native Linux port. Pity that Carmack forgot about Linux with his later games. Though Quake 2016 run just fine in Linux under Steam Play/Proton. Maybe Carmack at least will do Quake 4 remake - Proton will do the rest.
I don't have a PC, would love to play it without using my 360. It runs like dogshit during fights, especially boss fights where it looks like a slideshow.
Especially Quake 2, I hope that gets a re release like Quake did. I still have my bonus disc that came with Quake 4 on launch that has Quake 2 on 360. Slightly remastered for the console. Is great still.

The Vibe and the atmosphere this game had were absolutely insane... Even thr graphics were superb for the times.
They really dedicated like an entire act to this. Quake was fucking dedicated with the immersion. For a character that couldn't talk you really felt what he was going through.
This part gave me anxiety back then. I almost forgot it, now I feel worse. Thank you!
The sound of the shotgun probably is most brutal in the whole FPS genre. So fucking powerful, bassy and raw! Great sound design! I probably should replay Q4

This scene REALLY shook me when this came out. I've never been disturbed by horror movies, but here I guess I was really into the game and being this dude. Got my heart pounding, and I was 23 at the time so.. :P

7:12 I remember feeling so bad when as a kid I saw Anderson die. I liked the first part of the game so much that to this day I remember the whole Rhino crew's names so I took a liking to them before watching him and Voss pass.
What happens to him anyway? He sorta just gets lifted away and when the gameplay resumes he’s just gone lol.
First time I played this I just assumed he was dead, but now I did thought of it when I saw this video, since it's not that clear. Also the other characters don't ask for him at all later on. For the story is like he never existed from this point onwards xd
