I used this drill today, the mindset transfers to driver, and then played 9 holes. I hit the 5 long fairways and in the end came away with a 44, 7 over par. I am hopeful I can repeat this next time out.

@@CoachLockeynot every drill is good for everyone. There are too many variables in golf. This drill would expose the hosel for my setup
A weaker grip, turning hands to the left. Make sure your hands lead your club head into impact. Also you can shallow your swing as you start your transition by pressing down into your right foot. On two of the of the one, two (say “and”) three tempo count as you swing.

Hitting fat because you are to steep ( above the swing plain) . To shallow the club, press down into the ground with your back foot In transition with a one, two and three ( say “ and”) swing count. If your hooping- weaken your grip.
Im too shallow and my grips too weak anyway
Watch the pro’s grip the club with the left hand. They form the grip position and move their hand onto the club with their palm facing down, with the grip under the heal of the hand. This is a two knuckle neutral grip. If you body release through impact to the left you will compress the ball with a lower trajectory.

No this is a great drill! If you are hooking your hands are too active. You need either a weaker grip, and focus on a body release to square the club face. You may be to steep, so shallow your swing in transition by pressing into your back foot to start the downswing.
