    Thank You for posting this video. You are the first person that I have seen that posted a video using the correct gauge wire mesh for the bottom of the cages. Plus you are the first person that has taken the time to actually show how to properly install the J clips. I know your videos will help many people.

    Thank you so much for patiently showing all your steps. You made it so easy to understand. The details about the grinder disks and the difference in the welded galvanized and galvanized after-welded wire was very helpful. I really appreciate all your work on the cages and the video.

    I had 50 breeding does when I was 14 years old. That was over 60 years ago. I would like to have several New Zealand Whites for breeders and a good buck. I had made wooden cages with tight mesh chicken wire. The wood was from lap board that I saved from our remodeling our 98 year-old house. I sure like the all-wire cages you are making. I appreciated your step by step instructions. Watched it all. It is now 2:38am. Time to go to bed.

I am so happy and so proud of myself, but man oh man am I tuckered out. I wish I could upload a picture of my build using your instructions. Thanks again.

    Excellent craftsmanship details. Love that. As a teenager I built my original cages with wood framing and hardware cloth and later discovered the value of the all wire hanging cages. What a difference they make. Your cages are nearly identical to those I saw once in a large rabbitry. He advised making them in 2 or 3 cage units as you have done. They were easier to make and hang in the pole barn that he used and he said easier to repair if damaged in some way.
    How large? 200+ breeding does

    Hey Duke some time ago I mentioned to you that I was going to build your style cages, well I forgot to give you the update. I completed the cages and I have to say that I followed your instructions to the letter and we are well pleased with the results. In fact I've had some folks compliment me, wanting to know where I bought them telling me that they looked professionally built. I did share with them that I used your instructions and gave them your yutube channel. Thanks so much. for guiding me Brother.

    where the piece seems longer on one side than the other, it would work to start cutting from the long side toward the short side to relieve the tension and then clip the cut line back together squaring it up.it looks good regardless.

    I want to build a rabbitry pen like this but so many people on the internet are saying that the wire under paws damages them and causes wounds as rabbits have no natural padding under their paws. Is this true? How are your rabbits' paws? Is there a way that you work your materials to avoid this kind of issue? I want to make sure I'm doing things properly. Thanks in advance. xxx

    • @WORMGITTER
      @WORMGITTER  3 года назад

      I can tell you this wire is made for keeping rabbits. I have raised New Zealands for over 40 yrs and never had feet problems. The lie about the wire comes from people leaving hay in the bottom of the cages to rot and it contains urine that will burn their feet and lose the natural hair padding. They're feet are padded and with sanitary cages and good wire they're feet will be fine. I have raised some old rabbits, no problems. I can't tell you about other breeds

    Pretty large rolls of cage wire you have there! How do you prepare for motor freight delivery? Can it be delivered into the back of a full size pickup truck? If delivery truck has lift gate, that's easy, but what about without that convenience. Rolls like that are heavy, I'm sure. Hope you can reply. Subbed and happy about that!

    • @WORMGITTER

      The company you order wire from will make the freight arrangements and time for delivery...the freight company driver calls and I meet him where it is convenient for both of us. Looks good! This is a pretty cool project Duke, I have learned quite a bit from your rabbit videos. I am a bit lost on one part though..what is a grow out pen? Or what is the use of one or maybe I should ask, what is the difference between a grow out pin and a stock cage? Thanks for being safe and showing safe use of the grinder..one of my boys had a very serious accident with one..luckily my other boy came up and checked on him and got him to the hospital! Hey Lee! the grow out pens need larger feeders for the young rabbits that are weaned...the stock cages need baby safe wire for the newborn kits.....the way I am building them they can interchange and it just makes the cages more versatile...take care ol buddy and Thanks!

    • @danalewis9240
      @danalewis9240 5 лет назад

      Lee Ralph - I describe a grow out pen like sending the kids off to school. Once mama weans her babies she needs her space. So out they go to a nice sized pen. All of them can still stay together for awhile until they’re sold or butchered. That’s why the feeder is bigger because they all pull up to the “table” together like in the school cafeteria. This is especially true with New Zealands- they grow fast and big. And mamas have big litters too. Just putting my take on things.

    thank you so much, very helpful tips and info. I am starting with 2 angora rabbits I am raising for the fiber. I would like to give mine some winter shelter, how do I attach a box to this type cage? I also wont have a rabbit barn, I am thinking to build a 2x4 frame place the cage on that and add a roof on the top of the frame. any suggestions?

      I don't know the temperatures where you live but have raised rabbits with tin on the top of the cages in full shade....but yeah the tin on a 2x4 frame raised up 8 or 10 inches from the top of the cage will give them more air....and keep the rain out with an overhang....you can see how I have the boxes attached with the plywood on the inside of the cage, and also have 1x4s running the length of the cage supporting the boxes on the ends. You can keep your buck warm in the winter if you build a wood rectangular box that will fit through the cage door. I like the permanent housing for my breeding stock, and they like it too

      I am upstate south carolina, on the edge of the mountains, so it can get quite cold here. I hit the lumber yard this morning and have my lumber and roofing that matches my chicken coop. I got my wire and clips etc yesterday. I have the bottom and 2 sides on as of this afternoon. I am making mine 8 feet long and 2 compartments for my angoras. all my parts are cut and the edges ground nicely. I am so glad you showed how to deal with wire that has "run off" because I am dealing with it on both sides by about a half inch. I was rather smug that I had gotten a cheapo harbor freight 4 inch cut off wheel yesterday evening as well, and THEN I saw your video. Grinding the miter on the wire is a great tip as well. So... I will start tomorrow with putting in my ends and the partition. But I am wondering, since I plan to let them both have a box year round, should I stop and build those and attach them on the ends BEFORE I flip it over and add the top? thats what seems logical to me... thanks in advance, and your video rocks... but I would love a better look at your boxes, its really quick on the video.

      You can build the boxes later....if your cages are 24" deep then you can make the boxes 24"inches long, the width of the cage. Build the boxes out of 1x12 pine boards and place a sheet of plywood on the inside of the cage the same size as the end wall, then use the right length screws an screw from the inside of the cage through the plywood into the box. The end wall will be "sandwiched" between the plywood and box. I use hardwood strips of wood around the opening for them to chew on...cut the opening the size you want toward one end of the box instead of the middle, preferably on the side near the front of the cage so you can see in there easily. The permanent housing works great and offers protection from varmints and they love them..

    I don't like using wire mesh for the floors bcs rabbits can get bruises and after that infection into their paws ... Better but with a same function is grate from planks ... its just few 1.2 inches wide planks with 0.4 or 0.6 inches spaxe between them ... they can pee and take a shit and their paws are dry and no bruises at all .. just saying my opinion and some ideas :)

      @@WORMGITTER Any reason you attach a large nest box on the side of the cage instead od inserting a 18" x 10" that lots of people take out after a while? Great video by the way. I'm in the middle of building my 3 does plus growouts plus a few extras. Should be finished tomorrow. Then one more day building the metal frame and the drainage system. Still need to build the feeders (too expensive in Australia), have most of the scrap metal for it, and the water system after that

You can't leave the young in the open box because they will use it for a bathroom...after they leave the nest they don't go back in till they kindle...it works out good
