Thank you. Your video in the first few minutes showed me more than the last 10 videos I’ve watched in full length. Uuuugghh. You kept it simple and didn’t assume your audience new the basics. Been working on my cage for about 2 weeks now and don’t even have walls up yet. Granted I am raising my 4 grandkids so that takes up alot of my time and reasons for starting and stopping so much. Anyway thank you. I will def share your video and will be back to watch your other ones.
Excellent video. Definitely splurge for the Klubertanz “dipped-after-weld” wire. Terrific stuff! Have made numerous rabbit cages with the wire, and almost a decade ago, built a 20 foot long enclosed “aviary” (with 2” square steel supports). For rabbit cages, would recommend adding the metal strips for edges on the doors if you access the cages often. Saves your arms. You can also add a little “zig-zag metal strip” that attaches to the top of the cage, holding door open if door swings “inside & up” ( I build doors with side hinges though).
This is indeed better than store bought! Here's something. I was messing around with J clips for a while, but ditched them altogether. On your next cage build, try heavy duty zip ties. I use the 8 in ties for the edges, 12in ties to suspend the cage to 2x2s above. No more fuss when combining heavy gauge wire. Works great for making door hinges too. These have not cracked in one year of sun exposure. Enjoy your springtime, brother
@@mikej2029 over a year later, zip ties fully intact. When cinching zip ties the free end is always on the exterior. I then cut off the excess. It helps that the zip ties blend in with the black of the coated welded wire. Happy rabbitting!
Hey man thanks for all the info and videos. I do have a question on your build. I've been all on that website and I can't seem to find that floor joist you used. Would/could you please share with me on what that is called so I can find it for my purchases? Thanks for any help in advance
that metal support for the bottom is cool. Never seen it on other videos. Whats that called exactly?Im in Canada and would like to find something local if possible. Thanks!! :)
Like it, gonna copy it, thankyoutoomuch! Appreciate the details on Cage materials too, and your idea to bend to corners is great. For a regular Doe cage would you recommend 30x36x18 high? Or maybe a bit longer for nest box inclusion? I was kinda thinking about 36x36 but this is my first rabbit rodeo
Don't go to deep on the cage. Wider is fine, but you don't want it so deep, wide, that you can't reach your rabbits in the back. I won't go deeper than 30" because that's as far as I can reach to grab them, and even that can be a struggle depending on the height and location (not all my cages are at a standing height for me, some are higher, some are lower. But so 36' deep may be fine for you, but I'd test that first.
Do you think bending the corners instead of cutting the sides into panels and connecting them with J clips takes away any rigidity? I’m about to build a new cage for my rabbit that I’d like to be able to set on the lawn so he has access to fresh grass and want to be able to move it to a fresh spot when I need to clean the area.
Not sure where you are located but try FB groups. You can usually find someone there to sell, you just have to be careful so FB doesn't catch you buying/selling animals.
When I did the math it was going to cost around $40 a piece to build 2x3' cages. The wire cost a lot more than it should, then you have to build them and the end product isn't that impressive in my opinion. I bought large dog kennels at walmart for $40 then a roll of half by one inch wire for the floor. The wire was $30 and did 3 cages with the sides folded up 4" around for baby guards. So each cage cost $50, was easy to put together and they are way more durable than a wire cage. Plus they have 2 doors, a plastic pan and a divider which you can bend up and attach to the side for a hay rack.
@@Anonymous-vr9hp I just checked Walmart.com. The closest price to $40 they have in dog kennels is for the 24 inch model iCrate at $45.98. Is that what you consider large? It looks like you can buy a 48 in Vibrant Life model for $56, but they have been out of stock forever. I’d really like to understand what exactly you are talking about because so far, what he has built in this video is the best I’ve seen for stability and most likely price. If you know how to build something better for less, I’d truly like to know.
@@charlenesessionskandl5401 my walmart has vibrant life large cages 36'L 22'W 25'H for $40. Maybe online or your store doesn't but mine does. Like I said in my last post it would cost almost as much to make my own from wire. The only wire I can get here is expensive and it's not anywhere near as strong as the dog crate wire. I have one rabbit cage I bought at Tractor supply, it's made as well if not better than a homemade wire cage and I hate it. It's flimsy and the door is a pain in the ass. Anyways I was just posting what I did for anyone who was looking for options. You can do whatever you want, no one has a gun to your head.
Telling Thai people rabbit meat is very healthy is like suggesting we eat kittens... it's an uphill cultural battle I fear I cannot win. But rabbit droppings and rabbit urine can still be put to good use here. And rabbits are very popular pets here. Can you think of a good "cute pet" rabbit breed for the tropical heat? New Zealands is all I can think of.
Just to let you know, I had to stop before the 4 min mark, I found that I despise selfie-style videos.... you might want to make sure that you are properly prepared before you publish. Lights on the floor, camera stops recording, etc. Looking competent is usually preferred.
Use proper grammar and then people will believe you when you make stuff up. Wire is possibly the best flooring of all. It allows poop and pee to run down out of the cage. Wood will soak up the urine and smooth surfaces will allow urine puddles. Contact with this burns the rabbits feet.
Your cage looks great!! For the 18x2x1 babysaver side wire-is there a gauge spec? It was 14 ga 1x1/2 on the bottom, galvanized after weld? I’m down in Florida and am hoping to find these supplies closer to home. I imagine the freight from WI would be crazy high, but am keeping the klubertanz.com website just in case. I saw estimated prices in another comment. Do you know about how much per unit it cost you for materials?- just a ballpark. Thank you very sincerely.
GAW is always better, but on the side there, not mandatory. If you have scrap pieces from the bottom though, you can just use those. There are only a few rabbity suppliers in the country that provide wire. There are small companies that sell cages, but they still get their wire from one of the other 3 suppliers. Even if you buy it from them, you'll pay that increase in charge. The 3 suppliers that I'm aware of is Bass, Klubertanz, and KW Cages. I've also had great success, before they even made baby saver cages/wire, with urine guards. I had those on all my stackers 25 years ago and babies didn't get through those and it kept the urine in the trays. So that is also an option if the cost or effort of the babysaver wire is prohibitive. Baby saver methods is really only necessary on cages you put breeding does in. But I raise English Lops and Rex and the barrier is also good for preventing their ears from getting chewed by their neighbors.
Probably the best video I've seen for making wire cages. Thanks.
Most clearly explained and easiest set up I’ve seen so far. Thank you!!
That was the best video, very straight forward and informative.
Thank you

Sounds like a good idea for the top half of the cage, which they won't be able to reach as easily to chew.
Great job with demonstrating your build techniques. Thank you!
I agree with Jamie L, Thanks for posting, very well explained!

Thanks for the video! This is going in the rabbit video playlist.
Thank you!

Try moving those clips for the j feeder up to the next bar. It’ll hold better and tighter that way
Thanks a lot. From Algeria brother.

I have some that are bent and some that were cut and fastened. I don't notice a difference so far.
Thanks for the really detailed video, it was very easy to understand, is the wire for the sides 14g? Thanks
Yes they are also a 14 g wire. Only the top was smaller on this cage and I believe it is 16g
how many spools of each type of wire did you need for 9 cages?
How do you stack your cages sytems?
Where do you get the wite frim
Where do get your wire from again?
Klubertanz.com
How much did this cost? Was it bought in 2023. Just trying to get an idea
Mentioning baby’s and butcher time in the same sentence is mind boggling
