Hey guys, here is how we make the rabbit cages out of wire shelving, and a few other basic materials. Thanks for watching, and God bless.................J
I've loved this idea for a cage setup for a long time. I've recently discovered they work great for quail too! Just put a smaller gauge wire mesh on the bottom so they can walk better and I have a nice setup for them now too.
Thanks big daddy I had a bunch of that shelving and was wondering how I could use it for my cages then saw your video thank you so much and may God bless you your the man
What a great idea. I went to the store today to try my hand at building your rabbit hutch. Took me only 90 minutes to finish it, including redoing a wall and top twice. Used hog clips on the ceiling for the hinge. Worked great. Only change I would make is to make the width 36" using one 20" and one 16" instead of 40". Just because I can't quite reach the far wall at 40" but I can at 36"
I just saw an ad for rabbit cages. One cage, water bottle and food dish. $125. But last Christmas it was on sale for $99. John you paid $200 so in my book you saved at least $200 and got a better looking cage. God Bless
I just purchased 4 long pieces of the stuff at goodwill, It was about $12.00 total. at the time I didn't have a plan, but I felt that it was a good price . Thanks to you I now have A plan. Thanks
Love your video and bought the shelving. I'm never in a hurry so it took me a few months to put it all together, a little at a time. My husband had no clue what I was doing and refused to help. Till I was almost done. LOL Once I had the bottom and all four sides done then started putting in the dividers I got help from him. They came out fantastic and my bunnies have a lot more room. I bought enough extra that my husband went ahead and put together another 6ft one all by himself before I woke up for breakfast the next morning. I watched your video several times in my several months of building my cages. He on the other hand never watched anything. As a result his are not as perfect as I was trying to do. LOL But he did a great job and as you said perfection isn't necessary. He then built beautiful wooden houses for each bunny. Thank you! It was a lot of fun you gave us doing something together. Bless you!
I love these cages! Best cages I've ever had. Very clean looking and the rabbits have plenty of room. The seem to like them too! When I bought all the shelving and tools my boyfriend just watched. As I started putting it together and he understood the idea he chipped right it. We had a good time putting it together and he even built a second one for me. We both love them! Thank you for your expertise and an excellent video!
Duuude this is BRILLIANT. We breed meat rabbits in Uruguay for food for us and our rescue dogs, and everything rusts through, bends, breaks - this is terrific. Subscribed and so amazed by your ingenuity! Thanks!
@@josephvita8943 it’s good that they do small rabbit cages cause aggression sores on the feet obesity and more don’t get your bunny a cage like this the Reason people are trashing these cages is cause these kind of cages were made to breed and kill bunny’s please do not get them

@@magnagamer8256 I only have 5 rabbits and thought I could give the 3 females plenty of room with this kind of cage set up and another set up like this for my 2 males. The dividers I will be making will be movable to give move room if I feel the area is too small. I want happy bunnies. The cages they are in now are for most rabbits and definitely too small for mine in my opinion. Thank you for your input and help
you may not be a rabbitologist or a cageman extrordinare. just a regular dude. but you're one smart dude. love the vids and your an inspiration. just keep up the great work.
Been a builder for near 30 yrs now and I had my doubts about this at first. But ol'boy you pulled that together like peas in a pod. Great video man. I was watching a man and women the other day on things not to do when raising rabbits and they mentioned a fellow that built such a hutch as this, and said how wonderful a job you did with it and they was correct. 🇺🇸✌🙏👍🇺🇸 FOREVERMORE !!!
Brilliant! I've been wanting to raise some meat rabbits for family meals but didn't care for the plans of most cages. I can do this myself. You have worked out the details so I don't have to. Thank you for sharing this method.
It was a very useful video for us that want to make Rabbit cage for less cause some people that don't have much money we can get by what we got around the yard or find scrap material
I have made these, they are great! Re-watching this to get my materials list and fixin' to go to Lowe's and get more materials to make more! John you are so smart thanks for all you do for all of us out here!
Thank you so much for this idea. I have made three of these cages now and I absolutely love them. I made one without dividers for all of my grow out bunnies and they love bouncing from one end to the other. I love your videos and respect the lifestyle that you are trying to live. I am also in the beginning stages of raising a rabbit colony and we have the first nest of bunnies underground.
Looks very good and easy to put together. $200 for 4 large cages is not expensive. A person would be spending almost that much for regular wire and it would not look half as nice. Very good job. Think I'll do that myself. God Bless
I've seen a lot of different styles for building rabbit cages, but this is my favorite so far. Thanks for sharing. I like to only build things once. not over and over again.
Excellent!!! I visit several salvage yards and find the most amazing things and just pay about double what they paid for scrap. What some people consider nearly worthless just blows my mind. Thanks for the video
Thank you. Great idea. I'm going to expand on your idea and use those shelves around the garden for rabbit fenceing. Lots of ideas for that stuff. Thanks again. Enjoy your day 😎
I love this idea. I moved from our 4 acre homestead a few years ago to a 1/3 acre suburban lot. (very sad, I know) After a couple of years of doing very little, we finally decided to set up a new, suburban homestead (and our first RUclips channel). For the time being I am using some welded wire cages that belong to my parents, with the intention of building my own before long, but after seeing these wire shelf cages, this is definitely my goal. Thank you for sharing this wonderful idea.
I have made my rabbit cages from shelving and it is working really great. I watched your video from 2015. I had to buy the shelving, but think it was worth the expense because I have a very durable cage and have been able to adapt to many different changes. Thanks for sharing.
Nicely done! Great idea and even better execution. I had almost two dozen chicken back on the old homestead and kept one large bunny for the hell of it, but I'm just starting to realize many other ways they would be beneficial to my garden since I've read that their pellets can be put directly onto the soil to feed the microbial life without worry of "burning" the crops due to high nitrogen levels like fresh chicken manure. I'll be watching your channel closely! Good luck this year!
that is one fancy rabbit cage but do truly like the idea of building things once. kind of like buying tools that will last a lifetime buy once and cry once.
when the kids were still home we started out with 3 rabbits. When we moved from the country our rabbitry had grown to 50 rabbits not counting kits. Rabbits are great on so many levels. Thanks for the video.
That is a really good use for strong and sturdy material. I will definitely be using this method in the future for my own meat rabbits. Thank you for the video and idea J! 4 large and spacious cages for about the price of 1 pre-made, store bought hutch. Thank You!
you just a dude man smart with good ideals learning a lot you make a good fix it teacher nice cages we have a chicken cage for baby chicks made out of shelving works great.had to put board in bottom to keep them from getting hung

I was able to get a hold of a whole bunch of store display shelves awhile back.I utilized them for my veggie starts in my green house.Great idea using them for rabbit cages, almost like a farmers Lego Land.
I'll be honest, I didn't think it would work as well as regular cages, but, that cage is awesome.Thank you for making this video. I have a very large rabbitry, and I hate the whole cage making ordeal. I might try this. Thanks for your channel. God Bless !!!

That shelving will handle their combined weight better than conventional rabbit cages too. Also, that coating is great for two reasons: Easier on bunny feet and that coating will help protect and preserve the wire from corrosive bunny pee! You'll need to buy 4 total for 1 cage (but remember, you'll have an extra 40in piece each time you build a cage so on your 3rd cage, you'll only need to buy the 3 cut in half cause you'll already have the side pieces) I couldnt find any political signs to use as dividers so I just used hardware cloth to divide the cage.
