I have 4 comforts.
1. Im a disabled vet so i can't be drafted
2. I live in nature with solar and a few offgrid supplies, so i am more likely to die starving than city riots
3. I am equipped to end my life quickly & painlessly if necessary
4. I tried my best in political/historical research/dissemination with activism, so I won't carry guilt
Outside of that, prosperity or even survival are mostly a matter of luck
I hope I find the love of my life before it ends, though I'm not sure how much time i have to be picky

It amazes me that the general population are willing to die for the powerful few who never risk their lives yet start the conflicts. They'll be in a bunker while you are dying for the conflicts they started by their policies often over resources and posturing. The majority of the world just want to live and peace with their basic needs met, until propaganda and aggressive policies of their overlords convince them that those people "over there" are threatening their way of life.

I will refuse to comply with a military draft and I will refuse to fight in a civil war. I have nothing to gain from participating in a conflict. I do not owe my country anything, because I do not identify as a U.S citizen anymore. I think this culture and general public are not worth fighting and dying for. I would proudly go to prison over serving in a draft.

A lot of people are poor and a lot of people are living very close to the poverty line and Its not a problem thats exclusive to America. As such you cant expect a person who for example was bankrupted by medical bills in America because there is no Universal Healthcare system to fight. What are they fighting for? You cant expect a homeless person who is homeless because Rent in places like California and New york is high to fight. What would they be fight for? Should they fight for them to continue being homeless? My point is a lot of people do not benefit in anyways from their country so they dont care if they lose what is considered the norm. Mostly upper class and middle class people care because their lives are good but most people dont care,and on top of that imagine laying down your life to go fight a pointless war like Vietnam,Afghanistan,etc. Imagine you die but the person who caused the war lives, its not being sheltered its being wise to Dumb Wars.

I avoided the 1960s draft by enlisting in the U. S. Navy for 6 years. At 70, I ain't getting drafted now and I feel I have already served my Country well. Please have respect for our Vets.....no matter how you may feel about the USA today.

A lot are not understanding they're actually fighting for their loves ones and fellow man just as much as they're fighting for their country. Fighting for your country is much more than being willing to sacrifice your life for your Government. If an external and existential threat is imminent from another country, it would be dishonorable and cowardly to not resist the attacks potentially responsible for the demise of everything and everyone you love.
You don't have to join the military to protect your family. Nor does an outside force care about your family. The military works and fights to maintain the status quo of the corporate donors and bankers.

When two village chiefs were about to start a war, they had to fight in a duel and the winner took over the losing village. It was not perfect, but it was better than what we live now.

Even after agriculture was invented, many densely populated societies (like the Cucuteni-Trypillia culture in Eastern Europe) lived in egalitarian and peaceful cities. Even in modern times (even today) many societies like the Maori of Aboriginal Australians engaged in warfare without any concept of "armies" or "conquest".
I hope people realize that war is not "inherent to human nature" or anything like that. War is a historical anomaly.

I'm 25, raised in what is now known as the most dangerous and most poverty stricken area of the UK, Teesside. For all of my childhood as long as I can remember I always wanted to join the a marines or at least some branch of the forces, I'd say this peaked at age 10 until around 13, however growing up through my teenage years under what is widely regarded as the worst government in modern UK history, even far worse than Thatcher's, having every possible means of living decently stripped from my hardworking, caring mother who had to relocate homes due to the Tory bedroom tax, 0 hour contracts, appalling living wages, and that's not even covering the last 8 years since the genius idea that was Brexit came into conversation,
we suffered greatly, I was in and out of counselling, my mam put on anti-depressants, and left with barely £80 left at the end of each month... I wouldn't dream of going to war for these posh, greasy charlatan freaks, and more fool them. We've suffered enough without me being pulled into fight a war. This country has reaped what it has sowed, and will continue to do so for the next half a decade at the least, while anyone but the Tories attempts to recover it. Petition to send every tory backbencher and all 5 prime ministers in the last 10 years to war with no guarantee home.
I love this country, and am full of pride (For the hard working people), that doesn't mean I'm not embarrassed, ashamed and sickened by the people who run it, they don't represent us, and if you are from a rough area like I am, and vote Tories, you are as much of an enemy to me as they are. By reading the comments it seems to me like I'm in the minority in this discussion.
The way I see it, it's not about (or at the very least not all about) people prying on others to fight for their benefits (whether that's financial or power). Sure, some people gain a lot of money or rise/maintain power and use war as a tool for their own good but the question I ask myself is who are we fighting?
Maybe your country doesn't have good healthcare and education but perhaps the alternative (the enemy you're fighting) is far worse and that's worth fighting for.
I live in a western country and our enemies hold completely different belief systems. I argue living under a dictatorship or an extreme muslim religious regime is objectively worse and if those powers threaten your way of life then it's justified to fight for your country for it even if it means some people gain power from the war and it doesn't make it any less just.

I’m an American male, my biological clock yearns to fight on a European battlefield. No jk jk. I’m a recent veteran where we weren’t really sending many regular forces over to the Middle East, and I saw what those wars did to my mentors. If I were to fight again I’d only really go if the US was invaded. I would fight to protect my homeland and way of life. If ukraine boils over into a larger conflict, im avoiding the draft. I am not interested in dying for a foreign conflict that really has nothing to do with us. Same with israel.
What does the nation/state paradigm mean in the case of empire? How does one "love" a country when its interests are not in its citizens, but rather in domination of the entire world, economically and in nearly any other sense.

I took an interest in China and learned too much about the history of the US, my own country. If world war 3 starts, it'll be our fault. How could one morally defend a hypocritical bully? And no, I wasn't brainwashed. I learned factual information about the decisions we made, the actions we took, and our failure to make things right. The US does horrible things to defend and spread our specific cultural values, economic system, and style of government. To defend freedom, we remove the freedom of others to differ. But if the ends don't justify the means, and the means are atrocity, what does that make us?

I was in the Canadian Army and I went to fight in Afghanistan because of what happened on 9/11 (to another country).
It's less about fighting for your country and more about fighting for your way of life. I don't see too many Americans, Canadians or Europeans scrambling to emigrate to Russia, which tells me none of us find the idea of living under that regime too appetizing. If push comes to shove, there are plenty of us willing to take up arms to keep that scenario from ever coming to pass, not just for ourselves but for our loved ones and for you too.

As a Filipino, defense of state is right to do as the Philippines depends on the maritime trade. However, outside the defense, it is problematic.

no one will simply fight for their country just cause their leaders say so. for example if your country is the aggressor and starts a war with another country people won't be as willing to join the military voluntarily or otherwise, the vietnam war is a good example of this. whereas if your country was being attacked and the other country is the one that started the conflict then you would be more willing to fight for it.

We have claimed victory over each other several times by just one thing, one weapon most powerful of all and that is the strength that come with unity, Allies defeated Nazi regime not America nor Britain nor USSR but Allies together united against one common enemy, having witnessed the power that comes from the unity of human beings we have overcome the great threats throughout the history. And yet we fail to realize that our destiny, the Mankind’s destiny is to walk together as we have through centuries in tribes, kingdoms, nations. Now it’s time we walk together towards the better future not as nations but as a human civilization and conquer not each other but over the threats within, we fight against poverty, hunger, diseases, and grow outward conquering the universe.

After learning basic war knowledge from ww1 onwards,and after the red scare everybody thinks the next war will be nuclear.but I think it’s going to be rather political and technological because we are sitting on the face of it right now and it’s bound to happen because of so much tension since then

Are the FBI gone now? Alright, here’s my opinion: the U.S sucks. Healthcare definitely needs to be lowered, and what is up with the transportation system?! I’ll be honest, people have gotten too comfortable with highways and roads, so much so that most mayors will build roads straight through their cultural identity, and even through their history, all for a few extra minutes less of travel time. I don’t want to go outside and see a bunch roads and noisy cars driving around, I want to go outside and see gardens, greenery, and beautiful houses on the sidewalk next to me. Now, I could just as easily live in some other country, but I don’t want to do that, I want to make America great again! Onto the topic of politics, no, I don’t support Trump because I used his quote, and no, I don’t support Biden either. This is because both of them(and let’s be honest here) are truly unfit to be a president(please use the presidents in the past as a comparison. What I most hate about politics though is political parties. They’re honestly terrible, for they’re basically splitting America apart. I won’t go over all of politics because it would be too long to cover.
