    Recently discovered you. Seriously love your humor and relatability. It’s not like weird or uncomfortable but just the honest, humorous things we think and feel and go through. 😉Love the ideas and resources too, thanks!

    When it comes to books, you are so right We do not have time to review them all in our home either so I usually ask other homeschoolers about the books 📚 and their perspective,

    Rightstart has been perfect for my 2nd grader! We also went back through 1st grade (level B) because he really struggled to grasp math, at all. Life of Fred is also great to mix in there - put anything into book/reading form and he loves it :)

    We found doing nature studies with friends helped somewhat, especially for the disinterested kids.

    Thanks for the info! We are going through the LLATL for my son and I agree, it’s good for kids with special needs, as my son has a few. I’m definitely interested in the Cottage press books! I wish there were more options like this, as I like the idea of trying out a semester or even starting something later in the year, due to various circumstances. I also like FLL and we will be moving to level 3 soon!

    I love TT but you do have to pair it. The pro is you don’t have to teach math the con is I think a kid could struggle if it’s not paired or you don’t practice things like multiplication & division. A great pairing is the BJU Math Review Sheets and I level down for whatever I pair to give a good spiral effect and then when your child does their paper math it’s always been something they’ve been taught before.

    Totally going to have to check into The Who is God curriculum! Also that astronomy handwriting looks suuuper cool!
    You have some fantastic picks! You are always so thorough with your explanations of curriculums, I always find the videos you do like this so good! As well as the rest of your videos 😊 anyway thank you for sharing! TGATB handwriting is great too.
    I briefly looked into right start math and decided to go ahead with TGATB math which has a lot of games that keeps my son interested too!
    Anyway great choices Leilani!

    Somehow just realizing that we both have a 4th (boy) & 2nd (girl) grader this year! :D I feel like my 2nd grader could handle learning cursive this year, but my 4th grader still needs more regular handwriting practice!!! LOL! Definitely going to check out that Unseen Devotional!!

    Yes!! I’ve been trying to do nature study with my boys, and I’ve finally just reconciled myself to the fact that formal nature study just isn’t for them. Maybe when my daughter is older . . .

      I just added it to my "Christian Books Wishlist" (the actual online store) to buy for my fourth child when she is a little older(and there is free shipping), I have 3 kids past this age, but it looks better than anything we used in the past. It looks fantastic!

    Leilani I decided to use 'The good and the beautiful' not as the main curriculum since I'm still finding the right path to follow on teaching my Kindergartener daughter. I've been using extra tools like 'All about Reading and All about Spelling' wich she loves cause of the book of letters 😍 (keeps her engaged). I would like to know exactly what's going on with TGATB curriculum, there are a lot of different opinions, I love the way you explain everything so naturally that I appreciate a bit of real feedback. ❤ take care!
    Also the learning tools you use with your younger girl. My son is Autistic and I'm starting to work with him on the P-k curriculum. Thank you again! 😊

      I have the same question about TGTB

    • @LivingWithEve
      @LivingWithEve  3 года назад +2

      I think it's a mess, all the drama, not the curriculum. I've talked in depth to lots of moms who use it and they absolutely love it. It's thorough, hands on, complete, affordable, it's really good. A warning comes that for the youngers years, it's parent intensive. I have also heard that the spelling is a little weak and some people will just supplement with All About Spelling, Spelling Power, Spelling U See or something simple like that.
      The debate comes with the Mormon side of things. The owner of the company is Mormon. However many of the writers are Baptist, Protestant, Reformed, a mix of background basically. But the controversial debate comes down to this. You have to decide how you feel about supporting this company. But it's good, it actually very beautiful, well researched and intensive.
      We are actually thinking about switching my 4th grader to this curriculum. I've done a lot of research and praying and chatting. I still have mixed feelings and I do go back and forth on it still. My husband, after chatting with him, doesn't have an issue with it and usually, he is very strict with the biblical side of things.
      Now the main reason I don't do it because of the parent prep and work. That scares me. I don't have much time so I like my kids to be independent. But I hear that ends around 4th grade and my son will be in 4th grade next year.
      So I hope this helps. I'm still on the fence. But i hope this helps.

    • @ClaudiaRamallo281
      @ClaudiaRamallo281 3 года назад +1

      Thanks Leilani! Thank you for your deep and honest response to this. And Yes, no independent work at all. I do like it, but I had to supplement with All about Reading and All about Spelling as well. I'm using Reading Eggs for Math and some phonics practice, along with their workbooks and my daughter loves to earn Diplomas for her hard work, and that resource provides it.
      I initially started my daughter on a Time4Learning, but that didn't work since all the work is done basically on the computer, lack of writing, and super repetitive and boring. There were also having some issues with reports and that's were I decided to choose TGTB.
      My daughter was showing signs of Dyslexia, and she's being evaluated for ADHD as well. This combination TGTB, Reading Eggs, All About Reading and All about Spelling with their workbooks seems to be very enjoyable for her 🙏.
      I don't know if it will work for my autistic son, still watching videos and reviews of other moms on this topic. He's 5, recognizes the Alphabet, Numbers 1-15, Shapes, Colors and a lot of the first words. A friend told me to introduce him into phonics and to not use sight words, since that method seems very helpful for kids under the spectrum.
      I ask you to please make a collaboration video of other moms on this topic since is not so popular.
      Thank you! I appreciate all you do in your channel, really helpful and honest tips. I'm buying the swing for my kids, thank-you again ❣🌺.
      May God Bless You 🙏

      Just to throw my two cents in, my son has special needs and we have been using TGATB since pre-K. I liked that in pre k it was 1-2 pages a day. In kinder, there was math and reading both with a reader and little paper books to read. Somethings we skipped, some things we did more, like handwriting activities as it is an area of need for him. Yes, I agree, it’s not independent but at the age of my son and SN, I guess I didn’t expect this anyway. I was just happy to find an affordable curriculum he was successful with 😊

    I know I’m commenting on an old video, but you were talking about diagramming and it reminded me of something. Have you seen the book “Diagramming the Scriptures” ? I actually bought it for myself with the intent of using it when my kids get a little older and my mother “borrowed” it, and let me know I’m not getting it back 😅 so I need to get another copy. It’s so cool and goes along with the concept you’ve spoken on before - using the Bible as your base curriculum to teach each subject.

    Always great info. I'm thinking about buying the ordinary parents guide, I'm glad you showed the end of it. Looks like I could still use a bit of it with my 5 y.o. who reads well, as well as my 7 yo son who struggles. We are using explode the code online and we love it! Also, thinking about using teaching textbooks for both when they get there. At what grade level would you say one could switch to teaching textbooks?

    Such an old video, you probably won’t see my comment, but I’m curious if you’d do a review of Simply Charlotte Mason’s elementary arithmetic series. We have found it to be amazing and not too many youtubers review it. I’d love the word to get out about this curriculum!

    Would you recommend All About Spelling for a child that has some minor speech struggles? He was in therapy for awhile, but tested out. He is an amazing reader, but he has issues with his “r” and “l” blends (such as mixing up “pr” and “pl”) and also with “th” and “f.” Spelling is really the only subject he shows any type of a struggle.

    For your 2nd grade Language Arts... How do you plan on using all of the parts through the week? Or do you do all parts of LA everyday? I hope that makes sense.

    • @LivingWithEve

      Most of the curriculum take 5 - 15 minutes total. So we do all of it, everyday. She is done with it in maybe an hour tops.

    You have mentioned in other videos about a book your kids use for writing to expand on vocabulary, maybe from scholastic, something called like words banned? Sound familiar? If you know what I’m talking about can you let me know I would like to purchase for my son. Thank you

    I can't find a placement test for FLL. What level would you start with for a dyslexic 10 year old. Our focus has been reading and now we we need a language arts with grammar etc.

    • @LivingWithEve
      @LivingWithEve  2 года назад

      Maybe level 2, but I don’t know where she is on the dyslexia spectrum. I would watch some flip through a to see if she could handle the level. Also for dyslexia, if you can try to teach her cursive. That will help out a lot with letter reversal as well as many other things.
