It's hard to get out of that way of mind when you've grown to accept that you've been living a pointless life for so long. It institutionalizes you and such a change that he experienced with the fantastic opportunity he was given is too much too quick...I'm not suprised he found it hard to adjust. Someone who's had nothing for so long and then suddenly has everything...such a person cannot possibly fathom how to handle it.
This is why players signed to the NBA are given financial advisors right away.

Not easy being alcoholic/drug addict even sober. Most of us dont drink and drug ourselves to oblivion because we so enthusiastic about life. Hope he is doing ok.
Society would like us to believe that once we have money and fame, that life becomes perfect and everything is rosy.
The reality is that money and fame just bring their own set off issues. Just look how many rich and famous people are screwed up, suffer from addiction, end up dying tragically etc. He seems like a nice person and I hope he is able to find the healthy balance in his life that we are all looking for but often look in the wrong places for.
Society has not grasp on real life! So I say to it get a grip on reality bozo!

We have all failed in some way, at some time- perhaps, as spectacularly as this man. And, so, I must root for him. May he slay his demons and enjoy the balance of his life. With his triumphant example, hopefully, we can all overcome and rise to a higher level.

I'm so happy for this guy, so nice to see that's things can go your way again.
I admire this man and what he is trying to do..think about it..he fell on hard times, had no money, was addicted to drugs and alcohol and pretty much homeless and without friends..all of a sudden he's thrust into the spotlight and handed a HUGE wad of cash..some people cannot handle that type of attention and fame, we've seen it happen before. I just hope that he has someone in his life that can help him stay clean and keep his personal demons at bay.

Stop lying. I literally met this man today while I was at work. He mentioned he's still sober but was requesting donations. I was unable to give but he was gracious and even signed a photo of himself with a nice message on it.
