  • A "dream" is how both Ted Williams, the golden-voiced homeless man who has become an overnight sensation, and his 90-year-old mother, Julia Williams, described their tearful reunion after many years apart, during which Williams spiraled down from successful radio personality to drug-addicted panhandler.
"The dream finally came true," Williams told Meredith Vieira on TODAY Friday.

I congratulate everyone who is helping this man. He really has a God given voice and if he does well he should stay away from his mom..... She is too much of a negative influence by reminding him of the shame he had to go through because of the choices he made in life. he is trying really hard to get back together and thinking more about his sobriety than anything else... that to me is very positive thinking... he is not being greedy for $ and accepting everything that comes to him. Good luck

Not one time did she say Im proud of him or anything along those lines. Live for Jesus and yourself. Only God can send the blessing. He showed faith in God no matter how low she felt holding a sign asking for help was.

I guess many people who have voiced issues with his mother's words are just saddened that she couldn't show a little more hope. Yes, it's hard to have faith in someone who has hurt you, but this must be the best break he's had in 20 years so tho she's old school, tho she's 90 odd, tho she's been hurt, an 'I love him and know he's gonna try his best' would've been good for him to hear. Hope he's doing we'll now and that she is finally proud of him if she's still around.

There’s just no pleasing some people. Take it as a lesson, not to worry about what she or anyone else thinks. Do you. Use it as motivation to prove her judgement wrong. The good thing about going it alone is that no one else can try to claim the glory or any of the other rewards that come with your success. You can’t choose your family, but you can choose who you treat like family. And when your successful, you get to choose who you pull up with you, and who you leave in the dirt. Support the people who support you. Good luck and get to work.

It's been ages since I've looked up clips on this guy, but wow the amount of absolutely dragging him through him the mud incessantly, repeatedly, over and over says a lot. I don't care how much grief he's caused her over the years, you FINALLY get this chance for a turn-around, the very thing you say you've "prayed to God for" and your whole demeanor is nothing but a miserable old negative woman. Incapable of even one positive thing to say about this scenario. Absolutely can't stand people who are this negative, they're like black holes.

  • @hiphopjewels
    @hiphopjewels 9 лет назад +32

People are on here commenting about the mother being selfish. I disagree to an extent. She is a church-going woman who raised her son to be an upstanding member of society. You don't know what she's been through, bailing him out of jail or giving him money over the years for drugs an alcohol. She is just being honest that his lifestyle was not something she was proud of. She was really embarrassed at what he was doing. Of course she's happy to see him in recovery "now," but I wouldn't have been proud of a drug addicted alcoholic son either. I think she is proud of who he is today though, which is a different story. This woman does not look 90 years old, but she is. She sees things from the perspective of an older person. Unfortunately, honor and respect of the family meant a lot more to people back in her day than it does today.

Does the mother have no empathy for her son? It seems like all she can think about is how she feels, and how his trouble effects her and makes her feel bad... she had absolutely no thoughts about her son except where her son has harmed her life... It makes me see how he would've felt shamed by her all the time no matter what he did, what he achieved. Probably no matter what career he takes, his mother won't ever approve of him. What's a disgrace is not him, it's his mother!!! This is a sensitive man, with loads of feeling and empathy, who was raised by a mother with no ability to feel empathetic, all she does is pass off her own shame on to him- she projects it. What this son needs is to stay away from his mother! The woman's shame stems from insanity- it seems the son doesn't realize that her shame is insanity. He keeps trying to understand her.... Yes, he will need a really good therapist.

During this video Ted says I still pray and ask forgiveness 24 times a day. Why 24 times? It stuck out to me. If you study gematria, the word " pray" in full reduction is 24. Ted reveals here that he has knowledge of gematria. If you don't already know, the media uses gematria all the time. And for those who don't believe the English language was structured in a way so that it could be combined with numbers. English ordinal gematria a=1, b=2, c=3,...z=26. If you write out the words "twenty two divided by seven " you get 314. In math if you divide 22 by 7, you get 3.14 which is Pi. The word "church" is 61 in English ordinal and the word "Jesus " is 61 in reverse English ordinal. If this is news to you, the word "news" is 61 in English ordinal. It is no coincidence.

Awful woman. She doesn't seem to have any interest in her son's wellbeing or achievements. All she cares about is her religion and her reputation. I've seen this happening in many families. If the kids aren't interested in church, God or Jesus, their parents don't want anything to do with them. That's probably how he ended up addicted to drugs and then in the streets. He chose to be around people that didn't judge him.

Any of you simple minded, ignorant, cynical people who are judging this woman, ought to be ashamed. You have absolutely no clue what she must have had to go through over the years. How many times she had her hopes shattered, how many empty promises and how many times her pleas ended up falling on deaf ears.
The fact is, most of you wouldn't even be able to go through all of that, and still be willing to mend the relationship. If you had your heart stepped on and trampled on repeatedly, you probably wouldn't even give the person another opportunity to hurt you again. Yet she is by his side, wishing him the best, and is their to still support him and give him another chance. Don't act like you are any better...because the fact you are criticizing her, proves you aren't.

    The Quran
    1. "We have enjoined on man kindness to his parents; in pain did his mother bear him, and in pain did she give him birth" (46:15).47
    2. "Thy Lord hath decreed that ye worship none but Him2, and that ye be kind to parents. Whether one or both of them attain old age in thy life, say not to them a word of contempt, nor repel them, but address them in terms of honor. And out of kindness, lower to them the wing of humility, and say: ‘My Lord! bestow on them Thy Mercy even as they cherished me in childhood' "(17:23-24).
    3. "We have enjoined on man and woman kindness to parents; but if they (either of them) strive (to force) thee to join with Me anything of which thou hast no knowledge, obey them not'" (29:8).
    4. "We have enjoined on man and woman (to be good) to his/her parents; show gratitude to Me and to thy parents; to Me is (thy final) Goal. If they (parents) strive to make thee join in worship with Me things of which thou hast no knowledge, obey them not; yet bear them company in this life with justice (and consideration) and follow the way of those who turn to Me (in love)" (31:14-15).
    The Hadith
    1. The Prophet Muhammad said, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him: Your Heaven lies under the feet of your mother (Ahmad, Nasai).32
    2. A man came to the Prophet and said, ‘O Messenger of God! Who among the people is the most worthy of my good companionship? The Prophet said: Your mother. The man said, ‘Then who?' The Prophet said: Then your mother. The man further asked, ‘Then who?' The Prophet said: Then your mother. The man asked again, ‘Then who?' The Prophet said: Then your father. (Bukhari, Muslim).
    3. Abu Usaid Saidi said: We were once sitting with Rasulullah when a man from the tribe of Salmah came and said to him: O Messenger of Allah! do my parents have rights over me even after they have died? And Rasulullah said: Yes. You must pray to Allah to bless them with His Forgiveness and Mercy, fulfill the promises they made to anyone, and respect their relations and their friends (Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah).
    4. Abdullah ibn Amr related that the Messenger of Allah said: The major sins are to believe that Allah has partners, to disobey one's parents, to commit murder, and to bear false witness (Bukhari, Muslim).6
    5. It is narrated by Asma bint Abu Bakr that during the treaty of Hudaibiyah, her mother, who was then pagan, came to see her from Makkah. Asma informed the Messenger of Allah of her arrival and also that she needed help. He said: Be good to your mother (Bukhari, Muslim).

Therapy for a childhood lived with false pride and imagery. "I go to the "nicest church" means very little to most people when seeking god. Drugs would be an escape of feeling worthless.

This is a 90 year old mother of an addict. She's probably been through so much with him so she will be hesitant to buy into all of this. She's still by his side but part of a mother's job is to be open and honest with you. If she knows who she raised him to be then where he landed would be painful to her.

I wonder if the people who are being so judgmental of the mother have ever dealt with an addict child/parent. It's great Ted appears to have it together now but who knows what that lady went through in the times when he didn't have it together. It's easy to say "forgive" but sometimes depending on the offense and how many times you've had to continue to forgive someone, it takes time. I wish them both well.

Honestly, I would've been embarrased by my mother if I were Ted. Her response is sad, but part of growing up means you gatta toughen up, and have thick skin in spite of what may come out of your aging parent's mouth. I understand she may have felt disappointment when he used drugs and alcohol but that indicated he needed some help. Its great he didn't deny his vocal gift and God used it to bring him out...."Your gift will make room for you" the bible says.

Although I cannot judge any sect nor religion, when some of them do not celebrate anything at all because of their religious beliefs (the Holidays ,birthdays, wedding aniversaries etc...) the magic of children eyes during the Holidays is priceless.

his mother is an angry & hateful old lady he most likely went off the deep end because of her bitterness i can't believe how hurtful she is she is evil.she is not worth him,he is way above her.one day she will have to make an account to her maker for her spitefulness, and i pray that she makes a change in her heart before then.she thinks way to much of herself.i'm sorry but i am just shocked at her attitude if that was my son i would just be happy to see that he is doing good.where is her love?you keep going ted no matter what anyone say's or thinks about you the only one that matter's is what God and you, yourself thinks about you.God bless you and keep you.

And this is a classic issue of poor self image, self medication through drugs and alcohol, due to the guilt, control, shame and expectation placed on him by his mother, probably for his entire life. “Don’t disappoint me” are the first words he here’s from her in 10 years. No wonder he ended up the way he did. Cold, self concern for status and pride from his mother, rather than encouragement, freedom, love, kindness and non judgement. It’s visible his sense of feeling unworthiness. Not only does he need help understanding this, his mother does too.
