Oh my god, this looks exactly like my Peanut..we had to put him down after 16 years, he was very smart and could do all the tricks but only if you had a treat waiting for him :) I miss him very much.

How do you do that? We used to have a Shih Tzu many years ago. It is pretty safe to say that she had her own will and she did pretty much what she wanted. Doesn’t matter, though. We loved her very much nonetheless. We also had a cockapoo and an English mastiff. I like to say that we had from one extreme to another in size! LOL!! Dogs are wonderful. I didn’t know Amazon sold dogs! 😂😂

Jaclyn Mae Tan yes I usually talk to them in mandarin and mix some commands in English. We adopted MoMo from Taiwan around end of November 2012. So momo might not quite meet us yet at the time the video was made.

Carol1handygirl shih tzus are known to be stubborn, too. But depends on the owners luck
U start training as soon as U get them home if U buy a baby. They are SO smart I think teaching yours one trick at a time until he/she learns the command. Then add another & do it the same way. Go slow until he demonstrates the command easily. I trained mine with a treat. Find one he loves and keep that treat brand only when he is showing U he can do the command. I don't give my girls' their "special" treat until they do the trick! This way, they will love that treat so much they'll obey U b/c they want that TREAT!!! Hope this helps!

"Bringing the container" evolve from playing fetch...so he slowly know bringing back and let go the stuff will get praised.

His English is Ewok...but since my grandma can't speak English...so we call him "Zai Zai" (Chinese, means "son" in English) instead.
He is super cute and smart. He now knows how to get slippers for me. =)

I had 2 Shih Tzu doggies when I was a child. They were not as smart as your dog. I think they are smart, but they're just too lazy to do whatever you tell them...They are obedient but they have their character, they are too playful, they love to eat too much, and they have their thought too. So, they don't do anything you love them to do. Overall, Shih Tzu is a good family dog.

I noticed that the one with more brown on its head (that's Zai Zai in this vid right?) does more tricks and you focus the camera more on him. Do you like him more and is he smarter than the other one?
Yes that's ZaiZai. We have ZaiZai since he was 3 months old. He is 10 now. I started training him early so he knows lot more tricks than Momo. MoMo was a stray dog we adopted about 6-7 years ago. She is the less patient one and it's harder to train 2 at the same time. They got distracted by each other. But we love them both.

So after they understand Clicking=good behavior=food (clicker training)...when i see any cute/good behavior I like...i'll "click" and slowly associate the behavior with a name as command. Then it's all about practice and repeating for them to remember. =)

I start at 8 weeks old...By 4 months they have learned all basic commands...

basic dog tricks mine knows how to open doors sit obedient spin jump speak zoom zoom attack guard bite stay rover roll over Popsicle treat retreat come run bath sleep nom nom pup act walk on hind legs and much more maby you could teach your dog some of these my shih tzu just won best in show a few days ago but over all i like it

Never seen a shih tzu do tricks. I had one, not bad, but GOD are the dumb. Guess they can learn if you really try.

Shih tzu's are VERY smart, mine would come home if you called him and he was in the woods like 200 yards away, he'd be there at the door barking within 2 minutes of you yelling for him...he could do all the tricks too but he would only do them when he felt like it and when you had good treats for him and showed him the treats first...I don't think it's that they're dumb, it's just that they are stubborn...they know what you want them to do, but unless they feel like it, or unless they have some decent motivation, they will not do it :)

What the heck. Mine must be broken. My wife's shih tzu is the by far the stupidest dog I've owned and I had one that was legitimately retarded. Can't find food put right in front of her unless you point about 20 times, isn't aware a door is open if a single blind is blocking her vision even though you opened it right in front of her. She's sweet but dumb as a sack of potatoes.
Hi Rob, Shih Tzu definitely is pretty lazy and has strong personality (or attitude...but cute)...my dog will ignore me most of the time unless there is food involved lol
Also, I noticed both of my shih tzu's sense of smell aren't very good...often they will have hard time finding the kibble. haha
