just the video I was looking for, I literally give my dog a bath every two days so he looks good but his face area just ruins it for me and makes him look really bad, this video is a great tutorial on how to clean and now I do it literally everyday..... Thanks in advance.
My baby would never bite me. I hold her in my arms like a baby and talk baby while I wash her face. She loves the attention. Gentleness is the key word with these precious dogs.
Thank you for the video, it's very helpful. My Shih Tzu hates having her faced washed, she wiggles around constantly and licks the shampoo when I'm trying to clean her face. I do the best I can. Your sweet Shih Tzu is such a good girl, calm and well behaved!
DEbbiE BrOwN same I have a 7/8mth(only had her a few weeks) I have had to retrain commands(she's learnt all basic+some fun ones) as she was given to us by an elderly lady who couldn't keep up with her exercise (neither could I)but luckily there's 4 f us lol, the problem is as soon as I get near her eyes she hides her face +if I try to gently hold chin she snaps(she never does at ANY other times)she's got no stains (yet)just loads of eye poo +been told to stay away from chemicals sailine mixture 3times a day with tissue paper or cotton wool pads doesn't work(the bulk I have got out by scraping with finger nails(after washing hands in saline)we have been told witch food to give her (solid small biscuits)currently weaning off half tin of dog food but that's all she seems to eat(leaves most of buiscuits)she gets walked 3 to 6! times a day,it's just this one thing EYE POO! PLEASE HELP! It is best to start when a puppy but you can begin anytime. Start by touching her face while praising ... give a little treat. Repeat until she is comfortable ... continue with treat optional...then no treat. Continue to touch near eyes, praise, treat, repeat until she is comfortable ... make treat optional... then eventually she will not interpret touching her face as a threat... you must be patient... no one will let anyone grab their face and put yucky water and soap on it... she must learn to trust you and that action.... put yourself in her place assuming you don't understand nor care about a 'clean face'.
Try treats. My poodle puppy hated me messing with her face, coat. So I put the treats on the table. Now I can mess with her eyes ears, body, groom etc. She waits for the treat. She even comes over to get groomed now. Do a bit, then a treat. It works.
I have twin Shih Tzus now & a precious one too prior to these two. My little Butterfly suffers fm dry eye so I am cleaning her big eyes often. At first she didn't care for it but for about 6 months now, she will lick my arm as if to say 'Thanks Mom for cleaning my eyes & for loving me!' Shih Tzus are the BEST & they're so entertaining, easily trained, loveable & adaptable to any situation. It's like a 3 ring circus at my house as they sure keep me entertained. Would never have any other dog than a Shih Tzu. They are amazing little creatures!
Dry eye is common in this breed, but it's often misdiagnosed. Trust me, I've spent thousands on canine opthomologists over ten years; only to discover it's not his eye, it's not Distichiasis (second row of eylashes that grow on inside lid)... It's the hair on their face curling into the eye and like the tip of a paintbrush it sops up all of the moisture, leaving the hair a rusty brown and it causes stains as well as dry ey. Be sure this isn't why your Shih-Tzu has dry eye before you start spending money unnecessarily. It was an expensive lesson for me. Your baby may have a different issue but of ten people I've told this to, nine of them said that was the problem. Keeping hair around the eye trimmed definitely helps. Have your groomer show you how or watch RUclips videos on how to trim around the eyes and be extremely careful trimming between the eyes, there are entire videos dedicated to trimming Shih-Tzu's between the eyes. Hope this helps..
Wow, what a sweet little soul. I remember when my shih tzu would turn his head back and forth. He never stood still when taking a bath. I sure miss him. 💕
Oh she’s such a precious Angel. You’re so blessed to have her in your life!! I just lost my little Angel 3 weeks ago but we had 13 wonderful years together!! It’s so hard and I miss him soooo much!!
I have a shihapoo puppy and have been struggling with how to manage her tear stains. Your video was quite helpful and your dog is so well mannered during her grooming! Thanks for posting.
Such a beautiful pup. My groom loves face wash time every morning. I just have to say who wants their faces washed and they all come running to laundry room when we groom. Cute video.
Love that face wash for my Shih Tzu puppy as well! It’s so gentle and works great at breaking away any discharge from the eye area. I give my puppy filtered water from our refrigerator as well, and I believe that’s done wonders for her face staining.
I have 2 salt and pepper and 1 white schnauzer they have the brown eye and beard problems. Thank you for the video, this will help me in keeping my fur babies looking better.
OMG, love your video!!!! Love your beautiful Minnie, she melted my heart, I watched it 4 times just to watch her...especially the head tilt at the start!!!! xoxo
My maltipoo Betsy learned to sit well during eye care because I reward her with tiny treats (she loves them) 2-3 times during the procedure. I also coo at her and tell her I love her. I found that treats help too when I’m brushing her fur daily. She sprawls out on her back and gets a treat, a lovely combing, and another treat.
We give a tearstain chew daily. Eliminates staining. Ours is actually Teddy Bear (shih tzu/bichon). We spent time w/ her from time she was puppy fondling her paws, ears, rolling her over, ect. at our vet’s recomendation. Now almost 10 yo she has always been very tolerant for the vet & groomer
I miss my Pixie sooo much. She was such a good, patient little girl. She stayed still for me to clean her face, cut her hair and give her meds when needed. See you over the rainbow some day baby girl. 🐾💔🌈
My Shih Tzu cannot stand the hair dryer!! When I dry my hair With the dryer he is usually hiding somewhere 🤣🤣🤣 your girl did sooo good! This breed is a very sweet breed! I ❤️My Polo!! Thanks for sharing!💕
It looks so easy with Minnie. My boy just ain't having it. My boy just ain't having it. Takes me and my wife to get him to be still enough, even then it's a nightmare. Good video.
Mine sits still but I started training him from about 8 weeks. He gets regular baths and I clean his face almost everyday. He sits perfectly still but he is also very clingy
My little boy loves to be brushed washed groomed in fact falls asleep standing on the groomers table. Now my little girl hmmm, if I even look like its bath time or coe near her with face cloth etc, someone would think I was killing her. weird 10 days apart birthdays raised together and polar opposites on grooming behaviors. Love them both to death and always good for a laugh.
Mine had a bad experience at the groomer we used to go to (he got cut the last time and was always weird when we got him back before that already). He doesn’t want to get brushed almost at all anymore and washing his face is challenging. I already adapted a method of putting eye drops into his eyes with my thumb because he runs away as soon as he sees the little bottle. I wash my hands and act quickly. I’ll try this method next. I always brush him at the window and give him treats so he’s distracted. This method is easily doable there too. I changed groomers as well so let’s see how it’ll go. I love him and want the best for him 😔 but ever since we went to the groomer (he was there 3 times) he changed so much. He loved his first groomer but we had to move away sadly.
I have two puppies now 12 weeks old I groom them every day taking time to love them up and I don't rush the process, one puppy sits nice and our little male is more impatient so for him I slow down and pet and and hold him to reassure him,he did have a problem with tearing but we found out he was not doing well with dog food with added unnatural ingredients so the food was changed and his eyes are now clear and free of stains.
My daughter's dog never has a nasty face or tear stain face. Her vet gives her these drops that she puts in a gallon of water. This is the water we give her dog. He is seven years old with the biggest beautiful eyes. Please ask your vet .
Omg....she was having no part of that bowl of water...lolol. Thanks for this video. My shi tzu tears up too, and his face gets crusty.I don't know if I can do this every 2 days, but.....
I try and catch the tears b4 they fall out. Soon has the load up into the bottom of the lid they tend to over flow so spill out just b4 this its easier to very light dab the tears not the eyes the tears stick to the eyes and pull away onto the tissue. I sometimes use a finger tip it's even more easier for me I'm experienced so my dog don't get irritated nor flinched . However I do hold him still. He understands when I say let's clean your eyes he comes to me and sits waiting
Love both your littl' cutie pie and your very creative video. I too have a Shih Tzu who has been taking pink cough medicine but at times, she has a way of me thinking all is well & not so much as has a pink area under her mouth and some further and of course she doesn't know it yet but....... Once I press "Comment" I'm going to be following your directions. Shayla will be wondering, "How did she learn this while I was having a nap". First attempt and hope it goes well for 1/4 of what you can do & continue each day until done. Thanks so very much to show your technique ! :) !
I'm going to try this. I have the blueberry facial shampoo for the tear stains. Just try a figure out another way to do it without washing his whole body each time. I have a shih Tzu also. Thanks for the video
We've had two shih Tzu's one had bad staining all the time. We switched her to the filtered water out of the fridge. Stains gone. Our 5 mo old shih tzu only has the fridge water and gets a weekly bath / face wash, no stains. We use no products.
I commend you on your efficiency but that isn't a very quick way for my dog. He would put up with the paper towels and then take a hike, (or tell me to take one)!
Wow,, I am so impressed, your puppy is so sweet and well behaved, you're so lucky! I am going to try this on my 11mth old Sadie, I hope she sits good for me, shes very wiggly. Lol. Every video I've watched failed me but, this looks like it might work. I am going to try this tomorrow. Thankyou so much!💖😊🐕
Such a sweet, well-behaved dog. The process looks easy it’s getting the dog to stay that is the hard part. Thank you.
I think it's so amazing she sits for you and lets you do all that. What a good dog she is!
Beleza essa cachorrinha
The way she looks up at you is so adorable!

+matthoward23 Thank U Matt. They are all over Sidney Crosby playing hockey now! I think they've fallen in love!!?!
+matthoward23 Yes they are sweet too & so eloquent looking with the white hair. But how do U keep it clean?

My daughter's dog never has a nasty face or tear stain face. Her vet gives her these drops that she puts in a gallon of water. This is the water we give her dog. He is seven years old with the biggest beautiful eyes. Please ask your vet .

First attempt and hope it goes well for 1/4 of what you can do & continue each day until done. Thanks so very much to show your technique ! :) !
Such a good doggie
I'm going to try this. I have the blueberry facial shampoo for the tear stains. Just try a figure out another way to do it without washing his whole body each time. I have a shih Tzu also. Thanks for the video
I wish my dog can stay still like that. Mine was she is following my hand so it's so hard to touch her face.

I am happy to see that my Shih tzu isn't the only one that won't sit like that 😩....
