I have been using an original Xbox One controller with my PC for over a year now without any problems. I recently replaced the controller with the recently released Halo 5 Spartan Locke controller, which would not install properly or automatically. Following this guide got me installed and up and running in no time. Thank you!

Mate. I have been troubleshooting this for three days. Your video is what ended this ridiculous headache for me. Just as an FYI, my driver came up as "Xbox Gaming Device" and did not require sorting through software developers. In fact, only one box, not two appeared. Even so, the driver is working correctly and I am off to the races. Thank you so, so much.

I was on the razer support website, I messaged them and I watched every other video and page about connecting a xbox one controller to windows 7. Wow this is one of the very few times I have been able to say this about any tutorial on RUclips but it actually worked 100% no problems everything lined up exactly with the video. I spent a couple hours trying to get my xbone controller setup. Manually installing drivers wouldn't work, none of the other guides were working, but for some reason it refused to let me manually update the drivers until I turned on automatic updates. Well, that makes a ton of sense... And I chose the xbone over DS4 for PC primarily for the ease of installation...heh.

I have a Windows 7 System. Purchased me recently a very nice "Afterglow" Wired Xbox One controller. This wurd receiving power through the USB cable, but drivers were not found. had tried everything already. With the current drivers from Microsoft. Not worked! Even the steps described on Microsoft's website for installing X Box One controllers on PCs, did not work! Then I read, among other things, there should be no problems on Windows 10 systems. Windows 10, the major drivers should already possess. Great! Thought I might give up the beautiful Controller now. Then I googlte and found this nice turtorial ... step by step articles ... And yes !!! Brilliant!!! Now does the controller !!! :D Thank you!!!

this is the only thing that worked for me. tried quite a few forums, all with now bunk links, unfortunately. it's glowing and playing pretty. it's a rock candy. i know it's third party but i didn't expect it to be that rough an install. oh well at least it's working. thanks!!

Cheers for posting such a great guide Chris, I spent hours trying to get my X1 controller working in W7 x64 but it always failed. Works fine in Windows 10 though! So strange that for a Microsoft product the drivers seem to fail for a lot of people as their drivers are usually so reliable.

lt seems that Windows 7 and 8 now download the driver automatically when you connect the XBox One controller. so this problem should disappear. You may have to navigate to the driver in the same way as shown on the video but you should no longer have to manually download the drivers.
+Adam if windows is recognising the controller you could try: Devices and Drivers -> [right click controller and select properties] -> {hardware tab} -> Click Properties -> from the pop up window click 'Change Settings' -> {driver tab} -> Click Update Driver and get windows to search for it online. Other than that I'm not sure what to do as it 'should' download automatically when you plug the controller in.
+SebasGaming you may need to find a download link for the driver. I'm sure some people have put it up. Then install it, if windows doesn't recognise it, follow the video instructions, otherwise it should just work.
i got mine to work and i know what the problem is. some of the xbox one controllers have the code of a 360 controller thats y it doesnt work. im not sure if thats because its what came with the xbox or if its just for the older controllers but the model number 1697 on the one controller wont work i think it was 1537 for the one that worked for me

Holy fuckin shit, 4 years later and you still need to do it this way. Even with all updates, it didn't want to properly recognize it.
