Dartmoor is great - atmosphere is wonderful and weather unpredictable. Years ago I did the 10 Tors race and loved it. Part of my love of the Sherlock Holmes story of the Hound of the Baskervilles Is because of Dartmoor.
As i grew up in Walkhampton half a mile from the moors i knew exactly where you were , it brings back fond memories seeing the Television mast at Prince town in the back ground.
Many thanks for the shoutout. And welcome to my world, you've chosen a good one for your first tor. Great Staple Tor (The gateway to the moor) or Great Mis Tor are really the next level up from Kings Tor. If you like your history and want to camp somewhere truly remote I'm more than happy to come with you...I haven't left as many bodies out there as my subscribers imagine I have...🤣😂
Nice vid, thanks for the introduction to Dartmoor, looks a fabulous place to camp. Heck of a distance from Northumberland though, I think I’ll do it as part of a long distance trip. Thanks for sharing 👍
When you was walking around the rocks, it reminded me of the Peak District. In that wind I think I would of camped down in the quarry, the wind would of annoyed me too much. Regards JB.
I liked that intro music, Ben 😁👍🏼 It looks an absolutely amazing place to wild camp. Not sure whether I’d do it though. Fair play to you on doing it, good sir 😉👍🏼
It's such a beautiful location, with stunning scenery Bed. You don't mind a bit of wind when somewhere is as amazing as this LOL Bet you wish you brought your thermals along with you LOL You defiently had the perfect sleeping set up their. At least you didn't spill your hot chocolate. Mars bar and that, perfect combination. I look forward to seeing more camps from this location.
@@DartmoorPaul Appreciated Paul. Once I arrived at the park ,I noticed it was quite an interesting drive across the moors on some exceptiionally steep gradients! Wouldn't want to chance that in my car in winter!
I leave Freeze dried food for emergency rations only. I am old school and take non freeze dried food; ok takes longer to prepare (its not as though we don't have plenty of time on our hands, out in the wilds) however much more healthier, more filling and kinder to the tummy! Oh and a hell of a lot cheaper! Never been into 'weight moaning!' Enjoyed the video Ben, I was brought up on Dartmoor and now focussed on Peak District and Winter Scottish Mountains.
Hi @UK. Yes, know what you mean about that. Guess I’m just lazy! I do love doing it from scratch though drone time to time. Many thanks for stopping by and watching - and commenting. ATB 👍👍
Great video. I want to upgrade my klymit pad to the insulated pad now he he. Brat Tor I suggest. The car park near the Dartmoor Inn. You have the river lyd you can stop at for a scenic coffee the next morning. Thanx buddy.
Really appreciate those recommendations. That mat has always kept me very warm and I think the retail price is reasonable. Many thanks for watching! 👍Ben
Great to see you out on Dartmoor. It’s a cracking location. I go down on Friday nights - and there are many great spots a short hike away from car park place - which means I get two nights in on the weekend
Great to see you out on Dartmoor. I love it there. Pil Tor and Saddle Tor- not far from Haytor as well. Okehampton way is really good as well. Yes Tor is always a good one to tick off. Cheers for sharing Ben
Brilliant video Ben!😊👏. We really enjoyed this one, felt like a real adventure. Superbly put together as always, particularly the opening of the video, felt quite cinematic😊👍👏. So cool to see you tick off a bucket list destination, and we are sure you will be back now you have caught the bug🤗. We have never been to Dartmoor, although it is also on our list, love how rugged and remote it is, and the ponies are so lovely to see😊🐎. Great pitch with the rocks for a bit of shelter. Wind is not a you tubers friend😟🌬. Spilt beer, nightmare!🙈🍺😟. We felt cold just watching this! You coped well with that wind chill🥶. Would be cool to see your future adventures camping in Dartmoor, we will look forward to those😊👍. Hope you buddy well and have a great week, Shell and Pete
Thank you both for watching. 5 hours of driving for an overnighter might seem like madness but totally worth it. Definitely a place to get back to. Enjoy the rest of your bank holiday! Ben 👍
Looks like a fun trip. Just did Dartmoor as my first wild camp a few days ago. Pitched on Pil Tor. Luckily it's only 2hrs away for me. I use a Trangia setup I find it's a lot more stable for cooking. Might heat up slower but once it gets going it's great. Here's to more Dartmoor trips.
Great video, thanks for showing all that. Nice spot for camping. What do you think of the Helm 1 Compact in the cold? I've been thinking about getting it. It doesn't have a lot of mesh, but is it draughty?
Many thanks for watching Fraser. The tent is quite a warm tent and I would say for UK use it’s good for all-year-round. The only season I don’t like it much in is very hot summers. It can be very stuffy. I think with a good sleeping system you’ll be okay In the cold.
Love Dartmoor, it’s so bleak and can be punishing but it’s such a great place. I’ve camped at Foggintor quarry. Never been to Kings tor as yet. It’s on the list 👍
Looked a windy one Ben! Lovely morning tho! I spilled a beer in my tent last time too 🤦🏻♂️ I’ve been to Dartmoor but never camped, it’s definitely on my to do list! Thanks for sharing mate Ash

Hey Ben. The two I’d like to go up would High Wilhays (tallest in southern England) and Great Links just because it looks amazing. Check out Summit or Nothing. They cover some great trips on the moors.
Despite being half Devonian by birth, I've only managed to camp on Dartmoor once and it was special. It's a hell of a place - unique. You captured it very well here Ben, and I'd definitely enjoy seeing you back there in future. Great vid, cheers mate. Rich 👍

Nice windy trip there. Dartmoor is an unforgiving place. Your video gave me flashbacks to my 4-day yomp across the Moor with 2 mates. The Helm 1 did well. I had to brace my tent with a walking pole during our roughest night. Hope you get down there again soon.
I’m about the same distance from Dartmoor as you Ben being a Bucks lad. It’s well worth the journey down though innit. The never ending water sources. I always plan at least 2 nights out though to justify the petrol money 😆👍🏻👍🏻
Good little spot tucked in there, those Helm Compact 1’s fit nicely in tight areas like that.. I keep looking into buying one for myself, but think I’ll wait until one of my other tents snuffs it first! I’m planning on camping on Dartmore at some point this year, just to tick it off my list! It’s a good 4.5hrs drive down there for me also, so think it would have to be a two-nighter with such a long drive.. I’m planning on two-night camps for all my forthcoming long distance trips. I’m local (75 min drive) to the Derbyshire Peak District, so I don’t mind just single night adventures around my local National Park. 👍🏻
Dartmoor... you never know what you'll get weather wise, when I went it wasn't that cold but the wind and rain was severe, I think you need to camp on top of Steepertom Tor for the views, a good trek up and possibly another fierce weather one. Stunning morning on your video too 👍
Good to see you exploring Dartmoor, Ben. Seems like a right of passagw for anyone in to wild camping. :-) Looks like you picked a good choice in Foggintor.
