@noonyabeezniss4911 yeah the bots are actually pretty good and decently competent. The server/map is always filled with bots anyway i think. There's always an Ai commander for both teams unless you pick commander for your team. Each team is made up of multiple 4 man fireteams. Each player gets 3 AI squad mates who they can command. I started playing this 6 years ago and there were quite a few players. I loved it and I've been playing it off and on since then. I'll have to test it out in a fighter next time. I have a lot of fun playing against just the competent ai now. It's really cool how you can stand in a ship and look out the windows at the ships battling outside. Get in a transport, fly over to the enemy capital ship and board it as infantry.

I used to follow the artists who work on this on DeviantArt way back around 2005 or so. The artists to my knowledge don't share an office or anything but are around the world working on this and they've been at it longer than 2007.
The gameplay of this reminded me a lot of the days of Unreal Tournament 2004 assault maps. You would end up destroying ground targets, and progressing to space ships at the end of the map. Really good times and great maps, don't get my started on scorpion races among others.
I legit thought this game was abandoned by the devs with how quiet it got, played back when the servers were more filled, there was almost always at least a handful of bots on either team with how sizable the player count is per match. As for how it felt, brought back that sensation when I first loaded into Battlefield 2142 and saw those giant mobile airship bases creeping across the sky, a brief moment of wonder and awe before mild panic and joyful chaos ensues because the enemy team found you gawking at the pretty scenery lol
I've been a fan for years, and every time I hear about it by chance I'm like "man, if they made it more modern this would be an instant hit". Alas, it will be a humongous amount of time before that's even an option.
I'd say nah, don't bother unless that player count starts to substantially increase. Unless it gets a fairly substantial jump in player count, it'll just die again after a little while once people get tired of it and go back to whatever they were already playing. I'd just keep playing Planetside if that's what you like, and maybe keep an eye on this games player count for if it sees any growth.
man i bought AFF fricken YEARS ago, played against bots... it's the Battlefront 3+ game we never got. It was amazing, but had some performance trouble and the AI wasn't all there. Never managed to find a populated lobby either. Guess i should reinstall, eh?

Weird how battlefront 2 wasn’t mentioned when you can literally be in space and fly down the the surface to help the ground battle. Or what about planetside 2 which is this game but larger? Battlefield might’ve been the worst game to use for comparison besides maybe cod with its invasion/warzone modes
I remember playing this when the servers were full. It was fun but very hard to figure out if what you were doing was contributing to the team objective. Excited to see how the tutorials pull this together. I got a chance to play this on one of the early Alpha builds.
Saw the thumbnail and video title and knew immediately it was Angel's Fall First. Been following it since it was a mod for Unreal Tournament 3. The Space maps are so fun. Everyone loading into a huge ship to board an even bigger ship is so intense and insane.
these games alwasy sound super cool, unti your the guy geting blown up from tank that can only be taken out if squads quadrate to do so and most of time people just dont
Thanks. I'd forgotten about this. Played it ages ago on Steam. Was pretty fun. Like you say, it has so much to offer. Shame it hasn't got big. Just downloading it now to give it another try!
I really do appreciate that the developers were putting work in to the latest update, there's times I'm hosting a server hoping to see more people give this game a try.
Long time, no see lads. AFF is a game everybody should play at least one just for the experience of boarding a ship and blowing it up from the inside, it's a great spectacle. With a good first experience to onboard you into AFF you can get another hundred hours out of it before the deeper flaws start to burn you out. My advice for this: Short match timers and long re-spawn times, it breaks up the loop of spawning and getting farmed, makes stalemates easier to break when defenders can't return to their posts as quickly after being picked off (successful flanks achieve more), it cuts short a bad experience when a stalemate can't be broken, and it lets you experience more map and environment variety in one play session (AFF's space map selection is a bowl full of eye-candy and you're missing out if you stick to ground maps). You want your interactions with AFF to be short and sweet to keep the game fresh.
At the start of the video I was like "Huh, this looks weirdly familiar", and then when I heard the name it hit me. I played this game, like 12 years ago! It must've been still a UT3 mod back then. No way it's still alive! I got to give it a try. Also, Planetside 2, that comparison you looked for is Planetside 2. Or the original SW Battlefront 2, also kinda similar.
Played this for a bit a few years back and loved it, but ultimately stopped playing once the already small population dwindled. Media coverage for it is good, but I feel this is too late, though I will check steam charts this weekend and see if enough people are playing to give it another go.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! I played this a while back and had to run with bots :D HELL YES I loved this! Like Planetside 2 but more arena shooter. Hot damn, time to redownload this beauty and stack some knife kills!
This is such a great game, just never had more than 4 people playing at once when I was on, but it’s what Dust514 always wanted to be, or what SWBF3 wanted to be. This and guns of Icarus deserved a much bigger player base
Wow, used to play like 8 years ago and completely forgot about it. Might jump back in because of AI support since when I was playing some servers were pretty barren. So glad they're resurrecting it!
I would've loved this back in 2015...wonder how it flew under my radar, considering I played almost exclusively shooters. Hopefully it gets remade in UE 5.3+
For the closest game refs: Star Wars: Battlefront (originals) Planetside Battlefield 2142 upd. Well now you mentioned that in your vid and I'll pretend I wrote this comment for the algorythm xD
this video is so repetitive. yes I know you can do spaceship combat board big ships and have lots of mixed infantry and vehicle combat, you said that whole paragraph like 5 times in 2 minutes. thanks for informing people of this game though, seens interesting enough
A wildly ambitious game that combines spaceflight, infantry combat, vehicle fighting, and took 10+ years to develop huh? Sounds familiar. Curious to see how the masses treat this one since they haven't been able to peek behind the curtain until now.

@@luckysevenow1872 "Don't play this game, no one is playing it" is such a self fulfilling prophesy 😂
man i bought AFF fricken YEARS ago, played against bots... it's the Battlefront 3+ game we never got. It was amazing, but had some performance trouble and the AI wasn't all there. Never managed to find a populated lobby either.
Guess i should reinstall, eh?
level cap ripping on a small indie dev for taking 10 years to fully realize a game while he constantly defends CIG a company that has had 12 years 700 million dollars 1100 employees and still has a giant dumpster turd of a game to show for it. Theaters of War was lied about it was vaporware put down the cope pipe my dude.
Video starts with: WHAT IF THERE WAS AN INSANELY AMBITIOUS DEV TEAM SAYING WE GONNA TRY TO IMPOSSIBLE
--Star Citizen: STILL in alpha
Weird how battlefront 2 wasn’t mentioned when you can literally be in space and fly down the the surface to help the ground battle. Or what about planetside 2 which is this game but larger? Battlefield might’ve been the worst game to use for comparison besides maybe cod with its invasion/warzone modes
Finally someone's covering angels fall first!
I've been looking for a game like this ever since hearing about the unreleased Star Wars: Battlefront III. I'm on my way to buy it right now, thanks.
Holy shit, I have this game since 2015, but never played it because my old PC never could run it. Guess it's finally time to try it out.
They should crowdfund a sequel. They could make a more fleshed out game with modern tech and mechanics. I would certainly back it.
I remember playing this when the servers were full. It was fun but very hard to figure out if what you were doing was contributing to the team objective. Excited to see how the tutorials pull this together. I got a chance to play this on one of the early Alpha builds.
I'm looking forward to checking out the update. I thought it was abandoned. It has fun combat. Though I found space combat to be a little tricky.
Saw the thumbnail and video title and knew immediately it was Angel's Fall First. Been following it since it was a mod for Unreal Tournament 3. The Space maps are so fun. Everyone loading into a huge ship to board an even bigger ship is so intense and insane.
I remember thebluedrake doing a video on this years and years ago. When they port this to Unreal Engine 5 i'll give it a look.
these games alwasy sound super cool, unti your the guy geting blown up from tank that can only be taken out if squads quadrate to do so and most of time people just dont
Not even 2500 reviews in almost a decade. Thanks, but no thanks.
Everybody saying planetfall 2 but I'm thinking of Dust 514 and EVE Online.
This just sounds like what the OG Battlefront 3 was supposed to be.
I was thinking, how did they nail the late 2000's and early 10's graphics? Got the answer but yeah 😅
Meh, I wish them luck. Looks like it would of been great a decade ago
im mildly confused because it looks cool but it has literally 0 players on steam? how
The community largely plays on weekends and organizes on the official discord.
Basically same game concept as Battleground Europe from 2002 and onward but It's set in ww2 western Europe in 1/2 map
I am just looking at the pc requirements and the minimum is a fucking dual core cpu recommended is quad core. The game looks incredible
Planetside wishes to be this, and to this day they still cry when its brought up lol
the title is kind of bad-ass. I wish them success.
You forgot to mention Planetside 2 as the closest comparison to this.
This is basically theaters of war we should have got in star citizen.
I'll support any game with bot modes.
Imagine what planetside 3 could be, like seriously
Ive played this game and ngl i love the ue3 aesthetic in 2022
This was what DUST 514 aspired to be.
Love piloting a USNV Hugins Class Battleship blasting AISN Cricket class shuttles before they "sting" me.
"such a good game"
3 players on Steam lol
I hope more big RUclipsrs and streamers start looking at this one. It's honestly really cool and almost nobody knew about it
I believe the devs of this game regularly hold community play events in the Angels Fall First discord.
I'm getting titanfall vibes from this in terms of aesthetics
I would've loved this back in 2015...wonder how it flew under my radar, considering I played almost exclusively shooters. Hopefully it gets remade in UE 5.3+
For the closest game refs:
Star Wars: Battlefront (originals)
Planetside
Battlefield 2142
upd.
Imagine it updated to UE5... OOF
Level digging up this carcus as opposed to playing Helldivers2. For Super Earth! For Liberty! man who cares about this lame ass game. Going through a dry spell here.
Would also check out Metalcore a very underrated game already won a few prices with almost everything whats in Angels Fall First minus the space battles. On purpose I do not include a link. Its on unreal engine 5.
When it was a mod for Unreal, it was the closest feeling thing I've ever played to Battlefront 2 (the original), and once it become it's own game, it was like they stepped that feeling up to 11.
These guys really saw Star Wars Battlefront fail to deliver on any of it's promises, and said "bet."
Good. At this point, indy devs deserve to steal every lunch AAA has.
Notice how he said each multiplayer mode could almost stand as a game on its own. Yet we get games with a single mode, nearly full priced, with micro transaction live service models, to keep it "fun".
Never heard of? I've been playing AFF off and on for 9 years, it's grossly underrated, It's everything battlefront wishes it was.
I tried this out years ago. It wasn't all that great back then. Let's hope things have improved substantially since then
