In Tenjutsu, you play as a renegade yakuza hellbent on defying her former associates and loosening their grip on the Secret Garden City. Revealed at this year's Devolver Direct, this fast and fluid rogue-jutsu is the latest game from Sébastien Benard, designer of the acclaimed Dead Cells.
Four powerful crime syndicates control the city, ruling with an iron fist. To defeat them, you must master a brutal brawling system and build a diverse arsenal of weapons, upgrades, and martial arts techniques, breaking their hold on the streets in a flurry of violence.
The city is reborn as these sinister organizations fall to your fists, tackled in any order you wish. The ruined streets become vibrant and full of life, and you can spend gathered resources in shops and restaurants to help you on your quest.
Shape the city to fit your play style, unlocking new weapons, combat moves, and new areas. Just don't take too long: the longer you spend preparing, the stronger your enemies will become.

it's by the French animation studio CRCR! they do a lot of stuff for Devolver Digital. Wizard with a Gun and My Friend Pedro trailers both by them

The cinematic raised the bar for expecting the same level of cinematic violence and presentation and when it switches to sprites that look worse than Super Nintendo games, it's an insane letdown. The game maybe plays really well and stuff, but it just makes people feel like it could've been something more

I don't mind it being a pixel art, I'm just saying it's underwhelming. It's like if DMC 3 had the same cutscenes, but the gameplay was a top down shooter and Dante with enemies were made out of like 4 different pixels

This one looks really cool. Combat seems so fast and fun. Not a fan of roguelike elements but I’m sure they’ll at least be well executed coming from the Dead Cells dev.

@@Roguelike_Enjoyeram 2 minths new to metroidvania styke games and only played dead. Cells for hundred of hours without getting bored after dead cells ibtried manh like hollow night and ori etc… but uninstalled after some minutes. Dead cells is a masterpiece that made me suoer picky about thise type of games not tenhatdu frr super good i hope its addicting and satisfying just like dead cells❤
There's a whole lineage of indie games coming from Dead Cells. The original team, Motion Twin, is now making Windblown while the extended team, Evil Empire, is making the rogue Prince of Persia and now there's also this guy doing his own thing.
Damn the animation was so cool, that switch to pixel art though took me out. I think I'm out of my pixel art game phase. Good luck to the devs though looks neat!
It's not the pixels that are the problem period Pixels look great Which is why people still play games from the 2000s the best fighting games are all pixel games period the problem here is that the pixels are super low quality and low resolution.
@@JesusChrist2000BC Yeah, that unfortunately is what most modern devs mean by 'pixel art' - to use as few pixels as possible while it is still somewhat recognizable.That was never the intention of the devs of old the retro is trying to resemble. The original idea was to carefully draw each pixel at the highest technically available resolution. 320x200x256 or 640x480x16 were not artistic choice but technical limits devs had to work within.
Yeah, the switch was almost painful to watch. I play pixel art games (although I prefer more detailed / higher res pixel art) but to show the stark contrast was probbaly not the best marketing idea...

The animated trailer is much better than the gameplay of the game. The first animation frames give a glimpse of different gameplay.

@@Blballerboy To be honest, I also expected to see some kind of beat-em-up, or something close to the genre. Maybe 2D side scroller with fighting game elements. But definitely not an isometric roguelike. It's a pity that the expectations were not met, disappointment came very quickly.

@@BlballerboyRather disappointing. The pixel art in the gameplay does not look bad, there is attention to the details of the environment for the chosen style. But the gameplay itself, it was possible to make combos, interact with the environment For example, hitting an opponent with a table or chair. The gameplay certainly passed me by.

It would have fit more if the art style was more hand drawn rather than straight pixel art, because we already got a lot of those beatemup pixel art games.
(Also the gameplay looks mid, but it isn't released yet so idk how it will feel unless I play it)

@Oscar.Kennedy no it's not. Cinematic trailers don't represent gameplay. There are tons of games that have many different kinds of gameplay that would be hard if not impossible to be represented by the cinematic trailers, like turn based games, rts, card games, puzzle games, rhythm games and many more.
Cinematic trailers are there to set the tone, but in this case the art direction, visuals, animation of the gameplay are nowhere near the trailer's presentation, so this just kills a lot of hype.
That first fight scene was a lot cooler than the sorta "bad game" aesthetic one. Is most of the gameplay gonna be the first style or the second style?

I know these games are beautiful, but, as a gamer with over 30 years of gaming on my belt, every time I see a pixel type game I feel a disappointment for a second. I was there when all you had were pixelated games and your imagination did most of the heavy lifting in terms of graphics. :)) But a good game is a good game, no matter the graphics.

It's not like there are 2d games games with pixel-art that are detailed enough that may resemble an initially presented aesthetic (see snk neogeo games), it's not like there are, y'know, rasterized graphics they could have used (see streets of rage 4) or even 3d models (see furi) or flattened 3d models (see hades or ghost trick).
It's not like there are ways the ingame visuals could've resembled the initially presented trailer, flat 8-bit pixel art was the only possibility, I should've KNOWN!

this game looks good and the animation for the trailer is even better, but i really hope this isnt a dissapointment. a few people already commentated on this but it looks like another pixelated roguelike, while i dont really mind it being pixelated if the gameplay is good i just wish it looked a lot closer to the trailer cause that switch in art style felt really awkward.
also for the roguelike part im not the biggest fan of roguelikes but im not gonna bother commenting on it since we only get a few clips of the gameplay, theres not much i can say
