They have to wear out all their original animated features first. I hear they're waiting to make a live action/CGI Snow White for the very last since it was Disney's first animated feature, kind of as a bookend to the whole remake effort. Ah, but then what legacy will they rape? Guess it'll be time to see what's there to plunder in the new toys they got from Fox.

I even understand body language of cats to some extent but because allot if not al lthe important scenes were ripped straight from the animated classic they all focus on the face, which is a problem when everyone has the exact same stony expression.
Besides, i have seen pictures of wild lions that have more expression in their facial features than this movie even attempts. all i had to do to actually see lions with personality is google pic search silly lions.

A lot of scenes were neutered in this movie, which as VocalCalibration said, is confusing because it's a full half hour longer. I didn't notice any scene in the remake that wasn't already in the original, but I did notice a ton of scenes that they cut out for the remake. Like Timon dressing in drag and doing the hula. Or the "past can hurt" scene. I feel like there were a lot more scenes with Rafiki in the original in general, but barely any in the remake. "I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts" was missing, which made me sad as that's one of my favorite comedic scenes in the movie. "Be Prepared", my 100% favorite song from the original, lacked literally EVERYTHING that made it great...

Scar just looks like a sad and dying lion, and he doesnt have his sassy attitude. They chose to cut important lines: "it doesnt matter, it's in the past. The past sometimes hurts." (rafiki). Live-action and photorealism can still make great use of colour and be all bright and vibrant. To use a musical example for comparison, look at something like La La Land. That film uses vibrant splashes of colour all over the place, especially in clothes and lighting, to give it a unique, almost fantasy dream-like feel. But it's all too common for films trying for some kind of 'realistic' look to use colour-grading that sucks most of the energy and life out of it, which you don't really want in a fun, feelgood Disney musical.

The True “Live Action” Version of Lion King will always be the Broadway Musical.
There’s more heart into that stage play then the 2019 version of Lion King.
I always thought when they announced the Lion King remake all those years ago, I thought they would take cues and songs from the Broadway Musical. I was so excited, and now that I saw reviews and clips of the 2019 version, it just hurt to watch.

I disliked how it was a frame for frame remake practically. This was risky. It is like going to see a cover band; it can be flashy and well executed but it is still not the original.
I had more respect for the other Disney remakes because they at least delved into different aspects of the story. Maleficent is a great example. It wasn't just a live action sleeping beauty, it gave us a new story about a character we were familiar with.
No one can dispute how realistic Lion King 2019's animation was, but that doesn't objectively make it a good film.

Aslan from the Narnia trilogy was animated beautifully! he was realistic but still so expressive. they should have done it like that. it didn't need to look like a documentary.

It really sucks that these movies are being so poorly made.
In my opinion, Jungle Book was actually a pretty good movie. I feel like it kept the spirit of the original pretty well, and was well casted. It felt like there was some passion to it and the movie also had a live action history that made the choice feel more natural.
But most of these live action remakes just feel like cash grabs.

I was just watching another video by Toon Ruins titled “Why The Lion King (2019) Doesn't Work”, and Jon Favreau was quoted saying that he, for whatever reason, thought even the animals in his Jungle Book remake felt “too human” to him with the added expressions. It seems like he completely botched that aspect of his Lion King remake, just to solve a “problem”, which nobody else had with the Jungle Book and even praised with the rest of that movie’s visuals

    • @TechnicSky
      @TechnicSky 5 лет назад +3

Mark Cobuzzi I honestly see what he means. He wanted it to be more like how he imagined it. Granted it wasn’t that popular but it’s his vision of the movie. He’s the director. Now I’m not defending the Remake of Lion King because of this, but I’m simply stating that he disliked his own work even though others liked what he feels he did wrong.

@@blueismylove3128 Please go on. Pikachu isn't a real animal. They used cartoon proportions with realistic textures. Rocket is rigged differently than the animals in this movie and he expresses feelings with more than just facial expressions. He has body language. This movie lacked because goddamn there wasn't a lot of emotion in their default expressions.

As a counterpoint to the lack of expression, I thought of the Queen in Brave when she turns into a bear. One of my favourite things in that movie is how she looks like a bear, but with these animated expressions and gestures, but when she turns more like a real bear, she goes kind of dead-eyed, like *she* is not all there. It was great way to show what she was experiencing. It seems to me like in the Lion King, they opted to stick strictly with the latter, and yeah, it definitely comes out flat - like the characters as people aren't entirely there. It's made even more stupid by fact that real animals can definitely show quite a good range of expression...
