I want to change over to one of the poly organic coolants. Can you give me the names of some that can be easily found? Would the CAT elc be one or not? Thanks! Kevin
My favorite is the AMSOIL Low Toxicity Coolant, that is a concentrated propylene glycol-based fully (poly) organic coolant product. It is the most versatile coolant product that I've found, and can be used in about anything, and will mix with other coolants. Shackles Ford recommends a 5W-30 in these engines (as opposed to 5W-20 in naturally aspirated engines) because the turbo's generate so much heat that is hard on the engine oil. But many of these engines suffer from fuel dilution of the engine oil, which is very destructive to the oil as well. The turbo heat and the possible fuel dilution create a very difficult environment for the oil, which demands maximum protection. For those reasons, I'd recommend AMSOIL Signature Series 5W-30 (product code ASL). This is normally an extended-drain-capable oil (out to 25,000 miles/1 year), but in your engine, I'd follow OEM oil change recommendations, or utilize oil analysis services to extend beyond. That's fine , thank you. I will take your advise and change oil every 5000 km. I know the dealer takes there oil out of a barrel so looking for something that will give my engine better protection..thanks again.
