How To Crush A Campden Tablet - The Easy Way

Lots of homebrew recipes call for a crushed campden tablet, but how do you crush it without it flying half way across the room, or disappearing under the cooker.

Have you to put the tablet in the wine to me it leaves a tang cheers

I regularly use a Camden tablet in the finished wine before bottling. I’ve not noticed any tang

It does come in powder form as sodium metabisulphite. However you would use a tiny amount and so a Camden tablets is the perfect amount to use. If we were to tell you to use an eighth of a teaspoon, everybody has a different size teaspoon, and if someone accidentally used a quarter of a tablespoon, Then it wouldn’t do too much good. So a Camden tablet is a prescribed amount of sodium metabisulphate to make it easier for people to get the dosage correct. Hope this helps clarify why it’s in tablet form
