    I was looking into what I would need to start my first time homebrewing mead and could only find information about Starsan.
    Which is way out of the budget for starting and seeing if it's something I would like to go further with.
    So this video was extremely helpful!

    How do you dry the inside the tubing, pump and automatic bottle-filling device before storing?

    Pretty thorough, thank you. I usually gargle with meta before starting my siphon but I think I'll give your auto-siphon cleaning technique a try. My gums are pretty dry.

    This is such a great information because potassium metabisulfite is dirt cheap compared to Star San for example, which might become an issue ever since I've started making larger batches, and more often.
    How much of potassium metabisulfite would I need to make a sanitizing solution in the amount of 1 gallon? Or slightly more... let's say a UK gallon of 4.5L?

      2 oz. powder to 1 gal water (US) - mix/shake well and don't inhale the fumes.

    How long do supplies stay clean/sanitized for? Does this have to done directly prior to fermenting or bottling?

    • @SHredWorld
      @SHredWorld  2 года назад +3

      I don't know. I usually clean equipment well before storing, but I ALWAYS clean and sanitize right before using. Sometimes a day or two before bottling I'll place clean bottles under a tent (trash bag) with K meta solution in an open-top container in there with them. Saves time on bottling day.

    How do you dry a 5 gallon glass carboy?

    • @SHredWorld
      @SHredWorld  3 месяца назад

      don't think I have ever actually dried one. Usually clean and sanitize right before use, and if there is a little water in it I'm ok with that. If I felt I HAD to dry a carboy, I'd invert over a milk carton container, or something like that to stabilize it upside down, and let it air dry.

    I'm working on my first batch. Do you pour K Meta back to the original container? Is the solution reusable? Thanks!

    • @SHredWorld
      @SHredWorld  8 месяцев назад

      As long as whatever you are sanitizing is clean, you can reuse solution. I often pour from bottle to bottle, then back to the original container.
