  • I recently acquired an Addi Express King Knitting Machine and I’ve been making tons of projects! Watch to see what I’ve been making, then I’ll show you how to knit a basic hat on the machine.
    *Skip to hat knitting at 2:30
    You can knit in the round or flat on the Addi Express King; this 46-needle machine makes it easy to create knitted tubes or panels quickly. This machine is the perfect size to knit hats for a child or adult using worsted weight yarn.

    You're braver than me, haha. I only cast off one at a time because sometimes I'll lose some of the stitches. I've had my machine for some time and enjoy making hats for charity and family/friends. I went to visit my aging mother over a year ago and took my machine with me in the suitcase haha. She would send me down to the local yarn shop with some $ and tell me to get more yarn, as I'd been making hats for the local cancer center and women's shelter. By the time I left I'd made about 150 hats.

Do you have any videos or other resources you could share that would help me get started with this? Thanks in advance!

    Finished making my first hat following your instructions. Turned out nice, but I think I was holding the yarn tension too tight because the hat would fit a youth but not an adult, unless they had a small head. Thought I did well for my first attempt.

    • @JenGeigleyKnits
      @JenGeigleyKnits  Год назад

      That’s great! Certain yarns I’ve used turn out a bit tighter than others too .. and yes, your tension could be tight. I joined a Facebook group for machine knitters and they recommend trying Soft and Sleek / Yarn Bee and Caron Super Soft. (I personally like using wool or wool blend yarns but am curious to try different things to see what works best.)

      Each yarn is a bit different! Acrylic seems to slide better without getting stuck but I’ve used pure wool and even cashmere too! If the twist is loose, it will have more trouble and potentially get stuck, but it’s really kind of trial and error.

    • @JenGeigleyKnits
      @JenGeigleyKnits  Год назад +1

      Yes - this has happened to me too! I had better luck with a lighter worsted and sometimes the ‘4 medium’ label is deceiving and can vary from brand to brand. • @JenGeigleyKnits
      @JenGeigleyKnits  9 месяцев назад +1

      It can get tiring after awhile, but I take breaks. Luckily, you can stop at any point and pick up where you left off. There are also 3D printed cranker attachments online that you can use with a drill, but there’s no guarantees they won’t break your machine. (But lots of people use them!)

      You stop at the beginning of the next round, cut the first yarn leaving a 6-8” tail, pull that tail to the center of the machine, then add your new yarn through the yarn guide, and pull the new tail to the center of the machine as well, hold the tails, then continue knitting.

    I don’t have a machine yet but I was wondering if the brim weight/strength is comparable to commercial knit beanies, as I’m hoping to use an embroidery machine to embellish the brim. Thank you in advance!

      It should be pretty close - this machine uses worsted weight yarn.

      hi! this machine has 48 needles and makes adult size hats. a 24 needle machine will make smaller tubes but you can do a lot with it! both machines could make scarves, and both machines can also make square panels if you switch off the 'circular' knitting lever.

    Why don’t you use waste yarn at the end so you can take the fabric off and bind off without the machine in the way?

    • @JenGeigleyKnits
      @JenGeigleyKnits  7 месяцев назад

      you can totally do that! but I like doing it this way so I can bind off and then cinch the hat shut in one step. it seems faster than dealing with the waste yarn.

      It will be a while before I'm ready to invest in an Earlbacher, but your hat video really opened my eyes & my wallet far enough to give in to buying the Addi.
      Thanks for the tutorial ~ and the push I needed!
