Too often we fall for people we hook with our charm. Then we try to use our charm to change and keep them. When that doesn't work we become toxic to make them conform instead of letting go. To the point, we try to destroy them

  • @SPTO

I wouldn't call it an insulting album but moreso an album that started off as being one done for spite. He started off PURPOSELY doing a crap record that wouldn't sell but his artistry and honesty (Marvin was one of those people who was most honest when being creative) took over. Yes, he spilled a lot of tea and stuff that shouldn't have come out but he also talked of the need to be angry in your private space and to let go of that anger. ("Anger") He reflected on happy times with "I Met A Little Girl". He even talked of them being connected through the ages with "A Funky Space Reincarnation" and indeed, near the end of his life he was hanging out more with Anna again. "Anna's Song" reflected on aspects of their relationship and he lets out an anguished cry of "Anna!".
It started out as a suite full of acrimony and hate but he mourns the loss of their love, works through his emotions and yes, he did point fingers at her as well but in the end it's an album that chronicles how a marriage can go horribly wrong. In the end they reconciled enough and looked back mostly in a happy way over their time together.

The irony is that this album is now considered a classic......Marvin did a lot of this album freestyling the lyrics David Ritz who was there and wrote his biography book 'Divided Soul' said Marvin would go in the booth mumble some words then record....he didn't write none of the lyrics done prior.....about 15 years after they re released the album and ppl started buying it Darryl Hall of Hall and Oates did a cover of when did you stop living me.....Mos Def in an interview talked about the song 'Anna' funky space reincarnation was used in a big time commercial and it was an actual video release of him performing at before youtube took it down......so ironically it became classic

It's real sad his father shot him leading to Marvin's death. It happened on April 1st 1984. I'm sure a lot of people thought it was a horrible April fools day joke, but it wasn't.

Ti, I enjoyed your Vintage Celebrity Scandals video about, singer Marvin Gaye and his divorce from, Anna Gordy. I never knew she had a record label before her brother, Barry Gordy. I remember the back and forth verbal bitter divorce proceedings between Marvin and Anna, including the album he had to produce to pay her alimony and child support. I've always loved Marvin's musical talents but I always thought that he was a man who had a negative sense of himself and life in general. Great investigating and presentation. Have a fantastic week and holiday. Hugs to Indy and Rocko. Take care 💞

Marvin is my favorite singer, I love his music. This album however has been described as his worse project ever.
I got me a copy of the LP version I believe either at a discount store or a hardware store located on 125th street in Harlem, NYC back during the mid 80s. The price tag? $1.50.
Around that time I met my 1st wife and after we got divorced 14 yrs later this album became more relevant personally.
My fav song is "WHEN DID YOU STOPPED LOVING ME, WHEN DID I STOPPED LOVING YOU?".
It always reminds me of her.
He was her fav singer also and two other songs not in this album, "Let's get it on" and "Sexual healing", particularly this last one that I used to dance to when I wanted some action, always takes me back in time to those yrs.

I listened to that Here, my dear” album and I must say it’s absolutely brilliant. I only know Gaye’s hit records and never paid close attention to his discography. I’m a jazz guy, I love guys like Bob James and Ramsey Lewis, the Crusaders and George Benson. There’s no radio hits on this album, it’s very doo woop and jazzy. It’s first class quality all the way. I think if this album is released in 1972 it’s a huge success. It’s totally out of place in 1978 but that dosent mean this music isn’t great. This album gives me a new appreciation for how truly special Marvin Gaye was as a musician. He played synthesizer and fender Rhodes on this album as well as the vocals. Thank you Ti once again for the outstanding content in your videos👌😃

So, I think she wanted it out of revenge for what she went through, and also dues. That’s where the issue lies with me, claiming money out of anger and revenge is a bad idea. I think she deserved her due for the marriage, but not to break him. To add, I think she knew he was broke. She knew he was irresponsible, after all, if he had been responsible with the money, he could have paid out right and I think he wouldn’t have had tax issues. It wasn’t a good way to go about getting what she was owed I think.

  • @JRCGuitarist

I think it’s interesting that Janice Hunter is said to have not painted herself to be the “victim” after her marriage to Marvin, but when I listen to “Here My Dear”, I don’t hear much of a man taking responsibility for his part. He mostly comes at her, even asking the question of whether she loved him, the question is, did he truly love her? They both used each other, so, that was the game. I think they cared for each other, but both were not truly in love with the other. He claims all she wanted material things, but I doubt that if she was getting jealous of his baby mama and the kids he was having with her. I think she wanted more from him than he realised. It seems they weren’t good for each other, regardless of age, and they both should have gone about the break up with more respect.

You sound so biased, everyone knows that this is Marvin Gaye's best album he made. It is a master piece that was way ahead of its time. To be little this album is atrocious and I love his song, "Is This Enough." You hate his lifestyle but you can not deny his genuineness and masterpiece for him album "Here My Dear"

proof positive that just because you may marry the bosses daughter or sister definitely guarantees all is going to go right and well for you or you walking away mega wealthy or just more wealthy than you were before you married, Marvin Gaye and Berry Gordy didn't even get along but then again several artists that he employed didn't get along with him either, Only two really got along well with him and that was Smokey Robinson and Diana Ross who walked away in better shape financially from that union and Motown that all combined, but i never felt Marvin should of married Anna Gordy but rather Tammi Terrell but it is what it is and done and over now.

Anna knew what she was doing. She also knew that if her last name wasn’t Gordy she could’ve never bagged a heart throb like Marvin.
It ended ugly. She got to play the victim. She lost.
    Who we foolin?
    Marvin’s next record sold millions..
Lesson? Don’t play power with men.
A woman’s power is in her womanhood.
We have no defense against it.
Smart woman rule kings with it.
But when she grows a set of balls we know exactly how to handle that. It’s game on!
Immoral as it may be, Marvin and Janice was a better visual than Marvin/Anna.
Everyone knew what that was about.
She got her “stuff” as long as she could.
    She should’ve married an executive.
She was way out of her league.
    Marvin lost a couple bucks.
    She lost the most.
    Men are dangerous!
    Especially when challenged.

Both Detroit Lions and Mel Farr a popular owner of Ford car dealerships around the D. One of his most amazing albums. You might want to do more fact checking on the story behind it. You come off as one sided...the ‘teenager’ could have given you more perspective.Less vitriol and bias...more balance. You could have interviewed her, to be fair.

What I recently learnt about him, mean I don't like him. Dead or alive, I don't like him. He left his wife, when to a young girl. Pay your wife. I wish every wife who could say, 'you can leave, but its going to cost you.'.
Oh well! I wonder where his baby girl is now.
