    This is the first video of yours I've seen and you're a GREAT storyteller! Marvin was indeed a very complicated person. It's clear that he probably had manic depression and some schizophrenia. The cocaine habit would most definitely complicate things even MORE.
    Honestly, if Marvin was doing all these things today I think he'd be cancelled/persona non gratis by a lot of people but deep down I think Marvin was a good person who was screwed up seemingly from birth. He's my absolute favorite music artist of all time not only for the music but because just about every song he sang had a connection to his life and he sang in a way that his story can apply to you and he was someone who was Shakespearean in nature. The duality that made up his life added to the character of who he was. He laid himself bare to everyone to see.
    I know you said there was a lot of stuff you couldn't fit in this video so here are a couple things of note in Marvin's love life that I feel should warrant mention. Marvin got into a relationship with an older woman of British nobility in the form of Lady Edith Foxwell. It got so serious that Marvin proposed marriage but she turned him down.
    The other thing I feel should be noted is that when Marvin came back to America not only had he repaired things somewhat with Janis but he had become friendly again with Anna. I think it's quite remarkable that in the turmoil of his last couple years on earth that he had somewhat of a good relationship with the two main women in his life. Anna gave him the impetus to be a star and Jan was not only the muse but the one true love of his life despite all the torture they put themselves through.

    • @SimplyBeingTT
      @SimplyBeingTT Год назад +3

      I think he had Bipolar Disorder, formerly referred to as Manic Depressive. In his last year, he referred to it as that. If only he would have gotten the proper therapy he needed and not self-medicated on drugs 😢😢😢.
      Marvin and Jan were not on good terms according to his sister, and even Jan herself. Their relationship was volatile and back-and-forth up until the end. Jan also wasn't the true love of his life. He was obsessed with her, yes, just as he had been obsessed with Anna. David Ritz, Berry Gordy, Marvin III, and others have stated that he and Anna were considering getting back together. Judging from him taking her to the Sexual Healing video shoot, the Grammys, and various other events, I believe it to be true. However, he was still obsessed with Jan at the same time... But I believe at times he was obsessed with Anna when he was with Jan. It was a vicious cycle.
      I also don't think he truly loved or even wanted Lady Edith. He participated in her orgy parties while in Europe.

    • @SPTO
      @SPTO Год назад +1

      @@SimplyBeingTT Yes, they were volatile up until the end but I don't think Marvin was outright going to extremes with Jan especially when he off the drugs. Though I can't contradict Jan if she herself thought they weren't on good terms at the end but i've seen statements from her that said that they were at least (mostly) stable towards the end.
      As for Anna, yeah it did look like they were heading back together. Marvin had also expressed an interest in returning to Motown too though I think that was more Marvin wanting to be closer to a father figure in Berry Gordy. He had told Gordy about "Sanctified P^ssy" and said he wanted to go back to Motown and work on an album revolving around that song/concept which shocked Gordy to no end.
      Yeah, I mention the Lady Edith Foxwell thing because it's out there. I wouldn't know too much about the seriousness of it. It kinda falls into the category of the Decker woman who was pregnant with Marvin's child. Got to put a grain of salt on that story as well.
      EDIT: As for the obsession, I can see that but I do think there was love behind it. You can't be obsessed with someone for 11 years straight the way he was with her and not have genuine feelings. She was truly his musical muse as well. Almost every project he did included some kind of reference to her in it.
      I do think it's interesting that for such a relatively short life there's TONS you can talk about re: Marvin. He lived one of the most complex and interesting lives in modern celebrity culture. I enjoy talking about the man, I could go on and on for hours. Hope you didn't mind my reply to you.

    • @SimplyBeingTT
      @SimplyBeingTT Год назад +1

      @@SPTO Oh, I agree with you. I think he loved Jan in a way, although mostly twisted. I just don't agree that she was the love of his life. He was in love with her beauty, but as we can see from his, "I love you, but I don't know if I'm in love with you," beauty only gets you so far. She wasn't the only thing hot and smoking that Marvin thee Gaye came into contact with either. What else did she have to offer him besides sex and her womb? I mean she was a teenager dealing with a grown man who had lived, had a wife and child, a career, and was self-made. Although bipolar, Marvin was also brilliant. What the hell does he have to talk to Jan about long term? That's why their relationship involved a lot of drugs and a lot of sex....with others.
      I do believe he had two loves, Anna and Jan. As you know, Anna was his muse on a lot of songs, and at least on one album too. They even wrote together. So that woman was more than just his muse, she encouraged and elevated him.
      I totally agree with you on Lady Edith Foxwell and the woman who was allegedly pregnant. Pregnant? How convenient to mention after his death. 😏

    • @SPTO
      @SPTO Год назад +2

      @@SimplyBeingTT Yeah I can agree that the sex and drugs was probably the fuel for Marvin and Jan's relationship which in the end was destructive for them BOTH.
      Agreed about Anna, I still find it amazing that one of Marvin's most effecting sad songs of love saw its origins in a composition with Anna. (Just to Keep you Satisfied) and the HERE MY DEAR album to me is a towering masterpiece. There's been other artists who've done end of marriage/divorce suites (most recently Kelly Clarkson) but what they lack is the all encompassing nature of the beginning of love, the flowering and the ultimate downfall. Others have put out divorce albums which are all vitriolic and bitter. At least with Marvin singing about Anna there's some love. "Anna's Song" is one of Marvin's most beautiful songs IMO.

    • @SimplyBeingTT
      @SimplyBeingTT Год назад +1

      @@SPTOJust to Keep You Satisfied, is one of the most beautifully sung an emotional songs that has ever existed. It does everything it was meant to do. I think Anna's Song and I Met A Little Girl are gorgeous too.
      I just recently found out about Here My Dear earlier this year, and omg, isn't it absolutely brilliant?!!! I had to listen to it a few times to catch on, but when I did...😯😍! Some feel he ripped her to pieces in that album, but I see it different. Like you acknowledge, he took the time to break down the relationship from the beginning to the current, and even show the desire of a reincarnated relationship in the future. It showed all sides of him. The fact that that man was willing to be that publicly vulnerable...🙆🏽‍♀️!!! The anger, anguish, and despair of it all played out like a storybook was GENIUS!

    So the fact that Marvin married a woman 17 yrs older and then 16 yrs younger just speaks to his lack of identity as a man. Deep codependency dynamics and a really perverted sense of love. Yikes! Poor Janis.

    • @aisletell
      @aisletell  Год назад +2

      I read that he did struggle with his identity as a man or rather his masculinity also, by attempting to play football with the Detroit Lions and a brief stint at wanting to become a boxer.

    • @SimplyBeingTT
      @SimplyBeingTT Год назад +1

      Poor Janis shouldn't been in a 32 yr old, married man's face. According to her book, she was begging her mom and Ed Townsend to see him more than he was itching to see her. Poor Jan because of her mom's poor parenting, yes. When it comes to Marvin though, she was trying to play a grown man's game and got played. And she actually benefited more than most groupies because she spent the rest of her life living off his money. Zeola Gay shed some light on Miss Janis. Jan and Marvin were not on good terms when he passed.

    • @lisajones3599
      @lisajones3599 8 месяцев назад

      This is true Marvin treated Jan like shit after she slept with teddy pendergras she basically chased him around like a groupie which often ended up with Marvin being violent against her .She would always say that it was the 70s free LOVE and all that bullshit but I really think that Marvin put her those situations too see if she really loved him even he said he did but Jan was young and fast and it all exploded if you ever read up on her book he never really took care of her or his kids basically she had to do things for drugs and money and if you really think about it Marvin was a superstar Jan really didn't bring anything too the table when he died he had another girl pregnant not to mention the girl he had in belgium for 2 yrs who ended up committing suicide becus he left her and came back too the USA as much as I love Marvin Gaye he had alot of perverted ways that no 16yr could handle.her mother basically pimped her out and her father had nothing too do with her until she got with Marvin. I think he was infatuated with her youth but after she had her kids she was only 18 or 19 he was off with other woman he said in his book that he married her becus she threatened him with his kids which she did all her marriage when she didn't get her way.

    • @SimplyBeingTT
      @SimplyBeingTT Год назад

      Marvin didn't have sex with Berry and Anna's niece. His sister confirmed that Marvin III is truly adopted. I think Michael Eric Dyson is a brilliant man, but he did some embellishing in his book on Marvin. Marvin also wasn't violently raped by his uncle. Molested, yes, but not to the extent that was written. Ever since Denise came out and said that she was the biological mother to Marvin III, people took that and ran with it.

    • @benedicta3576

    • @SimplyBeingTT
      @SimplyBeingTT Год назад +1

      Zeola, his sister confirmed that Marvin III was adopted, and how he felt when Marvin told him. Of course people could say she's saving face, but it makes more sense than Anna, Berry, and the entire Gordy family being okay with Marvin Gaye - married to Anna - sleeping with an underage Denise. I don't believe Anna would have been able to handle that. She was concerned about every female artist he sang with platonically. How would she deal with Marvin and her niece in the same room at any given time knowing they slept together...and that's their baby in her lap? How would any of the family deal with that? Naw, I don't buy it. People just want to believe it for entertainment purposes no matter how salacious, disgusting, and ludicrous. I honestly don't think anymore has been said out of respect to Marvin III, who obviously views Marvin Gaye as his dad, as he should because he is, just not biologically.

    • @benedicta3576
      @benedicta3576 Год назад +3

    • @SimplyBeingTT
      @SimplyBeingTT Год назад +2

      @@benedicta3576 It is very sad. Marvin Gaye had some issues, but he wouldn't have done that. At his core, I believe he was a good guy. He just needed a good therapist/psychiatrist because he was Bipolar and experienced trauma. He also needed to keep a greater distance between he and his father because that was a trigger for him.
      He was trying to self-medicate with weed and a little coke, and in the 70s after moving to Cali, the drug usage increased to where he started making very poor decisions that would haunt him and initiate his tragic end. It's very sad indeed. In some interviews and pics, you can see the pain in his eyes. Not verbatim, Anna stated, "Marvin in his own way, was asking for help. But because we pampered him...I didn't see it that way at the time." 😢

      I'm sure you're a great parent that teaches/taught your daughter good morals, like not becoming involved with married men, let alone married men old enough to be her dad at the tender age of 16. If a girl is pimped out and practically force fed on a platter, how does one expect her to be treated? Jan was a victim of bad parenting. if Marvin didn't have childhood trauma and bipolar issues, maybe he wouldn't have taken the bait nor advantage. Jan was thrown into a game that she was not equipped to play.
      I guess I just feel a way because at 16/17, I was scared of a fully grown man's 🍆. That was a bit scary to me. I wasn't ready. "What does your fully grown and experienced a** want with me?" was my thinking. So, I see her begging Ed Townsend to set a date up with a married Marvin, like she was comfortable, a bit fast in the a**. I mean, why not go for one of the Jacksons? She went to school with them. However, they probably knew her kind - the groomed groupie - and steered clear. Marvin knew what it was too and said, "Oh, you and your terrible mom think you're ready to play with a grown man? Alright, let's play."
