- Lisa the Painful is the follow up to Lisa the First, and differs quite drastically from its predecessor. In particular, instead of focusing on the titular character, the story of the game focuses on the struggles of her brother, Brad Armstrong, who similarly suffered abuse from their father Marty. Carrying the burdens of his past, Brad lives a life of hopelessness, using a drug named Joy to take away the pain of his youth.
However, he finds something that he believes gives him a second chance, something that can right all of the wrongs from his past. What follows when it's taken from him is a story that includes absurd dark humor, unhappiness, mystery, and ultimately pain.
Here is (Part One of) a summary of Lisa the Painful.
This Part covers events in the game up until just before Area 2.
I know it's probably not what you were expecting, but by breaking the parts up, it takes pressure off of me, and allows the parts to come out quicker. Hopefully you still enjoy the video, and you shouldn't have to wait too long for the next part!

I thought that killing Terry and Alibaster was sad too. Terry because Brad was his best friend and all he wanted was someone to hang out with and to go on adventures with, and Alibaster because you have to kill one of the funniest and most awesome guys in the game

I think the most tragic part about this, If Brad did go to Rando right at the beginning, even though Buzzo would be an issue, Rando, Buddy, and Brad would all have been much better off in this whole situation. It is a powerful message about issolation that men feel is a nessicary thing to "Be a man" and handle things yourself.
I know this comment is 5 months old but I just noticed, if they had gone to Rando at the beginning the set up would have been like Brad's family when he was a kid, just that he's the dad now...
The sad part brad will still be the same no matter how he changes the lifes of others he can't change himself

I dont think it has to do with "being a man" at all. He felt this was his redemption. His own path. Also, he had good reason to believe others would use the little girl anyways.

I really appreciate that literally ALL of the trumpet music in this game is diegetic (exists in the universe of the game). The Trumpet Guy is the one playing it, he even stops playing when he notices Brad. So, anytime the player can hear trumpet sounds, the Trumpet Guy is around, playing his songs (even if the player can’t find him).
Man, what a cool guy! I hope he doesn't get revealed as the sociopath behind all this! That would be a real shame.
Brad suffering for others and not being rewarded during his childhood really foreshadows what took place at the end of the game. This is some deep shit.

Hmm... I wish you were more enthusiastic... Oh well, I'll tell you anyway. Let's see.... Oh right! It all started with what I like to call, THE FLASH. I was sitting with my wife, god rest her soul, sipping on sweet lemon tea. I believe it was homemade by my sweet wife, God rest her soul. Or wait... Maybe she bought it from the store in a bottle. You know, like a plastic bottle? Well hold on now, that would be ridiculous to buy a bottle of sweet lemon tea, then transfer the contents into a glass. Why not just drink it from the bottle? I guess maybe so she could put ice in the glass? But then again, making tea homemade would be just as time consuming, if not more! That sneaky bitch... Anyway, I'll save that story for later! So, I'm sitting on my porch drinking sweet lemon tea. From a glass of course, ho ho! When suddenly... A great strangeness fills my body... Something was wrong... I've lived many years, and I've never felt something like this before. Do you know what it was? Yup! It was my rocking chair! That wooden son of a gun stopped rocking! So I looked down and realized a little rock had gotten caught beneath my chair! A rock under my rocking chair! What a day! I decided it was time for bed, I had had a little bit too much excitement for one day! Hoho! I slid into my jammies, brushed my teeth, and said my prayers. As I was climbing into bed I noticed my wife, God rest her soul, brushing her hair in the bathroom. As I peered across the hall my body swelled up with emotion... "Why can't I be married to an attractive woman?" "Is it me?" "My bank account?" I'm a tall guy, I workout forty minutes a week... Is that not enough? Now my neighbor at the time, Tom Forknight, was very short. His wife, Karen Forknight-Plateburger... Yeah, one of THOSE women. Well, she was more attractive than my wife. I'd say she was a soft six, whereas my wife was a hard four. What's the deal? I thought women liked tall men? Why was Karen with him? Anyway my horse of a wife, God rest her soul, crawled into bed next to me. She decided to leave the bedside light on so she could read her book. It was one of her romance novels again... Give me a break... As if I don't already feel inadequate enough... Not only do I have to compete with Tom, now I have to deal with these fictional hunks! Ay yai yai! At this point I had already suppressed the urges of intimacy, I rolled over and tried to sleep. Her bedside light was only of minor annoyance. I was able to drift off... Then I woke up to a big flash of light. That's about it. I can tell by the way you're walking away that you don't want to leave... If you really want to hear another story I'll tell you. Once upon a hot summer night. Sometime in July... Was it July? My local grocery store sells really good eggs in July. I don't know why. Do chickens operate better in heat? Fireworks maybe? I don't know. I don't want to get off topic. Point is, the eggs that Summer were marvelous! Anyway, my wife and I, God rest her soul, went to a BBQ that night. It was held at Dale Spooner's house. Well, his backyard... Conny Spooner doesn't want people in her home, I think she's just an uptight bitch. So at this BBQ I see none other than... That's right, Tom Forknight... Now earlier in the day wife, God rest her soul, had made potato salad for the BBQ. Personally I hate potato salad, I'm a mashed kind of fellow. Hoho! So I sat in the TV room avoiding her till the BBQ. Once we were at the party, I made sure to distance myself from my dumb potato bitch wife. God rest her soul, I just didn't want anyone to think I would associate with someone that would bring a potato salad! Anyway, Tom and his above mediocre wife were already there. And get this, they brought a fruit salad! With whipped cream! The nerve of those Forknights! Needless to say I gave my wife, God rest her soul, a couple choice words About whipped cream! Versus potato salad! God dammit! Son of a bitch! A real tongue lashing! Geez, you're kind of smothering me. I'll talk to you later

shit. the first time i played this game i was in the middle of puberty, so i was brain dead and didnt get the story and thought it was shit. now im looking back at it and this game looks like a masterpiece, it looks like someone put their soul into this game.. i definitly need to play this again. thank you so much for making these videos

LISA the First is possibly the best horror game. It isn't cheap jumpscare stuff, just creeping dread as you put two and two together.

Man, I'd love to see you cover Suits or OFF. They're a little more blatant about their themes but the world building is interesting enough for a couple short videos.
I've had a few people recommend OFF, and I started watching a play through of it, and it seems really interesting. I'll see where I am in a few months, and what I want out of the channel in the future before making a decision on what to cover next, but I'm definitely interested in OFF. I don't believe I've ever heard of Suits though!

Squatch Gaming Official Oh, forgive my poor wording, English isn't my first or second language, but as in flair, I meant personality.
It's a bit tough to explain but whenever I watch your videos, there's this way you present the storytelling with a certain passion that lacks elsewhere.
An example I have in mind is whenever you spoke of that one scene in Hotline Miami where Jacket shoots Son's grandfather in the head, there's a good mix between visuals, the way you state the action and audio mixing.
Like the emphasis on the word "fires" as a gunshot sound effect is heard really brings out the passion in your way of telling the story.
Same as the time you spoke of Brad beating his former friend to a pulp in this video.
There's this passion that I feel is unique to this channel and just makes your content that much more enjoyable.

Because Lisa is much more important character than Brad. If it weren't for her, none of this could've happen.

Like Patryk said, Lisa is really the source of everything that happens here (which hopefully becomes more apparent as more videos come out), but I feel like Dingaling might've included it due to the success of Lisa the First, and wanted some of that audience to come over and play his new game. The first part was pretty comedic, but then it got dark quick. Welp depression for all

It won't have the same depth as Hotline Miami, but this is going to be good!
As you might have already guessed ( 19:40 for reference ) the reason Rick doesn't trust you regardless of whether or not you've gone joyless is because he saw Brad try to go joyless before. Brad's relapse at the start of the game is likely what gives Rick and Sticky the push to try to smuggle buddy away to Rando.

That's true! I never thought about that particular episode as the catalyst for their betrayal! I always figured someone just stumbled upon Buddy, so Rick, Sticky, and Cheeks were forced to protect her and flee, subsequently setting off everything else in the game. Thanks for pointing that out! Idk about only explaining games that have nuclear war (or something like it) as a backdrop to their world, but Fallout was actually one of the games people requested most when I was asking for input for the next series. I figured Joyful would also be on your list in order to finish the Lisa timeline, you should also consider doing some fan mods than Dingaling considered Canon such as Pointless and Hopeful
IMO the series keeps getting better with each installement and that's the reason why I love your content so much, much love

Yeah... despite who Brad is.. the things he's done to cope with his life, he isn't a bad person... just someone that has indulged in bad things to forget his troubled past... a past no one would really care about... the usual answer would be "grow up and move on" but... you don't just move on from an abusive father... it haunts you for decades.. things you wish you could have done better if only you had the courage you do as an adult.. things you wish you could have told yourself to do..
but yeah.. the people are crazy and they would rip buddy apart... how about if it was YOUR daughter? she may not be a daughter by blood.. how could any of them think to use such a young child as a brood mother? the population would die off quickly enough since buddy would STILL have to pump a kid or two out every pregnancy... and the random chance of batches not being girls and also the DNA deuteriation would leave humanity doomed anyways...
No, none of them understood, which is why i don't believe saving anyone during gameplay is a bad idea since they'll turn on you anyways when the time comes.

Is Olathe the world or a town/country
The part where Brad finds a baby Lisa in a crib confuses me.
In Lisa the first, Lisa seems to have memories of a time when Marty used to be kind and caring, which would imply that some shit went down, and at some point Marty became the shitty man we know, but In Lisa the painful, Marty was shitty even when Lisa was a baby. So that would have to mean that at no point during Lisa's life (That she should be able to remember) was Marty ever Kind and caring.
So What's with those memories? Dd she just make that up in her head? Did Marty Seriously start off shitty, became nice, and went back to being shitty (and ultimately became nice again)?
That part really confuses me too! Since the First takes place in Lisa's head, it may be a memory of when Marty wasn't abusive/when he's at his best or her imagining a better life with him. I like to think it's the latter as the scene is the culmination of a quest that includes a moment of Marty telling her "I'll give you something good" (when he asks for her Banana). That something good being the promise of a pleasant life they'd have if she listens to him. (But of course, that quest is just a string of manipulation of Lisa by Marty, and could be representative of how he controls/controlled Lisa).
I've also heard people put forth the idea that Brad may have told Lisa stories about Marty when he wasn't abusive. The Marty that Lisa sees could just be one that she dreamed up in her head after hearing all of those stories from Brad.
Honestly, I think that tidbit is suggestive, so you could pick something of your own to explain it!
