  • Through fantastic world building and an atmosphere unmatched by most games on the market, The Final Station, and its follow up DLC The Only Traitor, crafts a captivating mystery that leaves players chomping at the bit to see the whole picture; however, the story's greatest strength is also its weakness as through the gameplay of the games, it's easy for players to miss a note in one of the levels or a conversation between characters that has information that is vital to the understanding of the overall story, leaving them confused by the game's end. So to help clear up this confusion, let's go through all the information in the game, and present it here so we can see the story of The Final Station in full.
    Chapters:
    00:00 - Intro
01:12 - Background of the World
24:51 - Start of Base Game
30:57 - Events of The Only Traitor DLC
36:04 - Rest of Base Game

Come on, Edward totally deserved to be Reborn, he went cross-country while being attacked by weird goop zombies, awakened a giant robot only to watch it collapse and fail, and still made it back to his town on foot, while still sick from the gas, all so he could take care of his daughter.

Arthur did claim he could control that outcome which makes it worse. Despite being some 'higher being' he seemed to hate Edward in a very human, petty way. He wanted Edward to see it was for nothing and suffer knowing this just mere steps before the proverbial finish line. Give him hope before yanking the rug out. Arthur apparently got some sick enjoyment from this. But not before hinting the other guy who betrayed was going to experience a far less pleasant end.

As bad as it sounds, there was just no way. He was part of an old world that stopped existing while the new one had no need for him anymore.
It's a meme at this point, I know, but if you brought a WWII allied soldier who died on the battlefield to 2022 and showed him all the...modern woke nonsense, he wouldn't like it one bit. Maybe he'd just switch sides...
Humanity has a tendency of burying tons of people under the pavement to progress, and Edward was one of those people.
"Deserve" has nothing to do with anything in this sad world.
Once you understand that, I recommend you go and watch tons of russian science fiction, mostly from the soviet era.
In fact, 70s sci fi in general will blow your mind. It's like half of the inspiration for Final Station.

As someone with a POS for a father, I can tell you if he showed up during the middle of an apocalypse, I'd watch him cough out black goo until he dies, without a flinch.
I literally wouldn't give two shits about how good a guy he's become since I last saw his ugly mug.
If you ask me, I like Peter Gleen.
He's a canonically good guy(doesn't kill Edward, despite Arthur's instructions) and if he gets away, I think he'd be the prime candidate for the protagonist of a Final Station 2. He's seen...things that make him an extremely important character, in the very least.
If the lovecraftian shit in the DLC is canon, then it just made the universe 1000x more interesting.

Regarding Ristol and it's destruction... I don't know how right or wrong this is, but I always got the impression the giant Electrol Crystal was like a shield for the city, protecting it from both gas and the visitors alike. So when Adam gave it away, he took the shield away and that is why the city was untouched and was attacked inmediatly after Edward's departure

    • @AnonD38

It might have had the same effect like the visitor’s reactor (probably powered by Electrol too) that it prevented the gas from affecting people. But I don’t think it kept the visitors away.
I think it’s way likelier that it was the Visitor‘s retaliation for Adam not sabotaging the Crystal like he promised.
Or they planned to do this anyways. As it’s likely the Visitors wanted the Crystal to reach the Guardian, so that the Guardian would inevitably fail and convince the Blacksmith that turning was the only choice he had. Willingly or not.

Like, the Visitors and Reborn seem pretty focus on getting Adam and the Blacksmith to their side. So what if letting Edward through to complete his deliver, to make it so the Guardian could launch. . . was simple because the Visitors knew they would defeat the giant robot and in doing so would make Adam and the Blacksmith submit since there was no hope then?

Guess I'm just a big mark for stories about the last stand of humanity. Everything from Attack on Titan to Battlestar Galactica, Homeworld to the Walking Dead, and on and on, it's all drawn me in. Even that Black Rock Shooter PSP game which, despite everything, had me actually crying. When something is ending is the perfect time to clarify and examine it, to really take it all in and realize what's important as it burns away. So, the atmosphere of this game immediately gripped me when I saw a few videos on it, and it's been wedged in a tiny corner of my memory ever since. It was just as nice as it was surprising to see your video on it in 2022. Come to think of it, I've also always loved trains...

The fear of losing it all is a powerful one.
There really is only one way for a rational human being to overcome it: hope. Hope that, even if you die, others will carry on.
Without hope there is only that ever enveloping fear.
Fear is a natural biological response to danger.
But since most humans (in the first world) nowadays haven’t felt true bone chilling fear for a long time (sometimes ever), experiencing this fear makes us crave this unknown feeling.
Horror as a genre is as popular as it is, because real horror is (fortunately) only experienced by few people (in the first world) today.

Thank you very much! Happy to hear you enjoy! :)
I've never heard of Signalis. Just looked it up and it looks interesting! But I'm not a horror game type guy, so I would be way out of my element. Probably would be too scared to finish it. Haha.

The minute you mentioned metal cylinders raining down from the heavens in the "Background of the World" section, all I could hear was the bass guitar opening from Horsell Common and the Heat Ray from War of the Worlds.. Great video, seen this game floating around some places but never looked into it

Great video. I remember playing this years ago and left wanting a lot more. Nice to be able to have all the pieces put together in a clean summary. Made me tear up a couple times, the whole thing is so bleak and just upset me that the protagonist didn't have a place with his daughter.

‘The medicine’ has biiiiig eugenics energy. The whole reborn thingy is basically eugenics 101….so then winning makes it feel not just bleak but very icky
