Greetings and salutations Austin! My local music shop has a new Epiphone Riviera which just recently arrived after having been ordered two years ago, but it got held up off the coast of California due to the pandemic so it is actually a 2019 model, and it has coil splits for each pickup. It also has a more ornate headstock as well as a set of Grover’s. It has a gloss black finish and I am not sure about the fretboard wood, but it too, may have the Indian Laurel. I currently have on layaway, an Epiphone Prophecy Les Paul with the olive sunburst, that I am purchasing from the shop now, but may pick up the Riviera later on this year. He was playing an Epiphone Les Paul until they came to recording Definitely Maybe. At that point they recorded everything with a Les Paul gifted to Noel by Johnny Marr.

I hope that's just a silly easter egg rather than an actual typo. Also, to go along with the '11111' in the serial number you might notice it was set up in the USA by '11' (decal on the back of the headstock). I wonder if that means it was done by telekinesis.
Spendy for an Epiphone, but I'm glad they include a case and I'm glad you can see the wood grain. I bought a Epiphone Les Paul Special and it looked like it was made out of yellow plastic. Aside from that and the heavy weight, the pickups sounded really great.
Oasis used rivieras from 92 till about 96,This was Noel’s main gigging guitar at this time before the money rolled in from royalties,It was in the video for don’t look back in anger,But if your an oasis fan like me,Everyone knows how important this guitar is,

My favorite guitar was a 1972 Epiphone Riviera EA250. Gigged with it all the time until the neck joint became so weak and messed up it was beyond repair. Apparently a thing on those of that era. Now it just gathers dust in the corner and makes me weep every time I look at it. Maybe Epiphone can send me one of these as compensation ;) or atleast an Epiphone towel to mop up my eye water
I do own a Japanese made Epi Riviera, it really is an amazing guitar! Is quite rare, a single-piece fretboard and top, it doesn’t have any sticker or such to show that it’s an elitist model, but man it is a fine guitar indeed!
They have been since 2019...the 2019 Epiphone exclusive deluxe limited Run g400 Sg Pro sold on Reveb for $650 back in March I know because I bought it..some of the older Epiphone models are holding and gone up in value..the 2019 Epiphone exclusive deluxe limited Run g400 Sg Pro is just one of them..and yes it has the CTS Electronics graph Tech Nut 18:1 Tuners
Noel literally made me buy my first semi acoustic back in the 90s. A Korean made ES-335 clone by Samick. Noel's original Epi was made by Matsumoku and came with Maxon pickups and it is almost impossible to find one these days.
You know you're a guitar nerd when you know what a volute is. You might also have a bit of appreciation for Leo Fender's '50s neck and headstock designs that didn't need one.
So I have had mine for 11 months now. I am very happy with it! I play it through my Deluxe Reverb with a RAT pedal and it serious rocks! I'm very happy with my purchase.
Impressive and relatively great value. I’ll bet if you setup your amp and pedals for overdrive the sound would improve in that regard but through the clean spectrum it sounds awesome.
I got one on Tuesday and it’s a really nice guitar , the Classic pro pups sound nice and Chimey , my fretboard is nice and dark , like rosewood mine came in from Zzounds and someone handled it ? It had someone’s sweat smudges all over and a few light scratches , I got a decent discount on it , I put Gibson 9/42 Bright wire strings and did a full setup on it , I own the 2 Epi rivieras royal tan and the burgundy ones , this one definitely feels and sounds very different and is a pound heavier at 8lb 13 Oz. It’s a beautiful guitar after I buffed out the scratches and polished it up. I ordered mine on the release day and Zzounds was sold out 2 days later. The tuners are ok once you tighten the button screws and stays in tune pretty well, gonna keep it stock.
This version is from the video for Don't look back in anger and alot of live performances from that time. Also studio recording. It's pretty close . The headstock logo, crown and truss cover are different on his 1980s japan one but not a dealbreaker i guess
I ended up buying this guitar and it's outstanding. I'm not an Oasis fanboy at all, but I realized that I wasn't going to be able to justify spending the money on a Gibson 335 and this seemed like a really solid, affordable alternative. The sound from the pickups has such a nice texture to it, the feel of the neck is very natural and the overall quality is just superb. I was initially bothered by the blatant "Made In China" sticker, but once you're playing the guitar you never even think about it. I've started digging into some old Oasis records and I like it. Noel had a quote in another promo video for this guitar where he says "I'm not a guitar player, I'm a songwriter" meaning he's not a super technical shredder, and that statement really hit me. So happy with this guitar - my first Epiphone - I would highly recommend this wonderful beast!
@@salmosekka997 For me, the price of this guitar is the only thing that stops it from being a true "beginners guitar". But ease of playing makes it easy to learn on.
Beautiful guitar! I love most of the semi hollow epiphones. They have a unique vintage sound to them. And some of the higher end ones are very well made!
I wife and I bought guitars off the wall from the Gibson Garage in July 2021- mine a Riviera. The set up guys were awesome. The place is packed with passionate people - truly a must see for any guitar fan.
You understand the guys in charge of Gibson are also in charge of Epiphone. Ergo if you think the stuff coming out of Epiphone reflects well on the people in charge...
@@rexrathtar3893 Yeah, this is one of the single funniest comment's I've ever seen. Gibson is kinda inept at some things, but the circlejerk around it is far more obnoxious than anything done by the company itself. And I almost spit out my water when I saw this dude try and say that Epiphone's people should be put in charge at Gibson when they literally already are. People like "Duane" will just sputter on about what they clearly know nothing about to get some fake internet points via upvotes. I guess their lives are in such a state that they need the dopamine hit or something.
@@rexrathtar3893 yeah it's the same people "in charge" but they come from different factories, with different workers, and different supervisors on the floor etc etc.Anyway you know what he meant.

I bought this Epiphone Wildkat in 2014.Wildkat, one of the best Epiphone creations in the field of archtop guitars is back once again. Now, in 2014, a very limited edition of the Wine Red Wildkat is available through selected dealers of Epiphone Guitars. This limited edition six-stringer comes in a distinguished Wine Red color scheme with gloss finish, nickel plating on the hardware and creme binding around the neck and body. Semi hollow and single cut, the body of this beauty rocks the solid mahogany base with a flamed maple top, the classic Gibson/Epiphone combo (neck is also made of mahogany). Locktone tune-o-matic bridge is combined with the licensed B70 Bigsby vibrato tailpiece. In the front, Epiphone`s classic Dogear P-90s are in charge of the amplification. Master volume, two separate volume knobs (bridge and neck), master tone switch and a three-way toggle pickup switch comprise the controls. Slim taper-contoured neck is topped with a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard. Grover tuners on the classic headstock complete the specs list.
I love the colour, I wish that Gibson used wine red more often. And I wish that they made the dark wine burst again! Have thought about trying overdrive instead of distortion? It would suit some guitars a lot better than distortion.
Thanks for reviewing it! I noticed other reviews the pickups sounded a bit jangely too. Shame they didn't upgrade the tuners. I've always wanted Epiphone to reissue the Matsumoku but I think the price is too high and will wait for non-signature next year and hopefully some other colours, like the tabacco-burst that Bonehead still plays.
The single biggest failing about RUclips guitar videos is that you cannot hear a realistic sound of the guitar. This guitar sounds incredible. I couldn't believe the pups in it! They are hot! So much tone. This guitar is loud! But rich in tone. The neck is just luxurious. I'm able to play with a level of accuracy on this guitar that I don't normally play with. I was shocked. I went into the store with no plans of buying this guitar, I had no idea the guitar was even in the store. But I left with it! I knew I had to have it. It unlocked a new side of my playing. This is a special guitar.
Just watched Liam Gallaher headlining at the 2024 Reading / Leeds Festival. The Rhythm guitarist was playing an Epi Riviera. As Noel said. “If the Epiphone was good enough for the Beatles they were good enough for us!”
As a suggestion....measure just below the nut..binding to binding..I have a 1.687 width fret board but gibson uses a std. 1.695 nut which is what it measures..but the Gibson Customs are usually 1.687..and at the 12th fret they are between 2.060 & 2.070..I didn't think Epiphone made a different width neck or fretboard like the Gibsons ..then again they don't have the Custom shop...something they should do for special runs in my opinion
"...polish or something got stuck in the wood grain." The downside of Laurel, the wood grain has tons of deep pores in it that denser Pau Ferro, Rosewood, Ebony, Maple don't have. Once they fill up with grime it's there forever. Sweet Gallagher Riviera otherwise.
For Epiphone guitars, I've always enjoyed playing the Casino model. I don't understand why they would make a Union Jack model, no offence. But Epiphone is one the most original American guitars. However, the Union Jack model does look very cool. And the Gibson/Epiphone ES model was common amongst the British invasion guitarists. I've seen Pete Townsend playing one. Anyway. I love that Casino model. Beautiful blues, Jazz, and vintage rock sound. A it to much feedback with those semi-hollow bodied guitars, so just dial back the gain a bit and you got this!
Naming the white polish/filler in the woodgrain of your fret-board is not being "nitpicky". And as consumers, we are getting a little too chill imo with nearly a thousand dollar Epiphones that carry no Gibson USA components. We deserve better, remember that.
Hi. I have a question hopefully someone can let me know. I’ve got a semi hollow guitar and the bridge and tailpiece doesn’t come away. How can I remove them, as they normally fall off. I’m assuming they’re locked on, but how to remove them.
I have two weird epiphones man. One is an 04-05 LP classic. Nothing fancy until you see the maple top. It’s got a very small burst but that’s not what’s strange. It’s the color. It’s black with a grey burst in the center. Also what’s strange is the headstock isnt one of those shoe shaped ones or the bulky “toy like” thick ones it’s like what the epi headstocks should’ve been for the time. Now the second one is a 95 jc200 nothing crazy EXCEPT the headstock is the same exact one on my les Paul. It isn’t the shoe shaped one it looks like the electric one. I looked up the serial number and it’s the 16th one ever made but that’s the strange part. It’s got Apollonia inlays AND it’s got the crown inlay on the headstock that you usually find on gibbons it’s still an enigma to me and it’s got a flames maple neck. I found it in a pawn shop in sulphur springs Texas for like 400 bucks with a case included free, near mint. Very strange.
Unless you are a collector, a professional musician, or have money to burn, it makes little sense at this point as a player to get a Gibson over it's modern day Epiphone equivalent. Is the Gibson better, I am sure it is. Is the Gibson 335 model $2500-$3000 better in terms of sound or playability? Absolutely not. I have four Epiphone's and I love them all. Even counting the $500 I spent on my Epiphone Les Paul Custom Pro, all four of my guitars still cost less than a new Gibson Les Paul Special. For me, even if I had the money to get a high end Gibson, as a non collector, I feel my money would be better spent getting similarly priced ESP or a PRS.
@@thenameless3271 I’ve got about 8 guitars that say that getting different guitars doesn’t make you better 😂🤦♂️🇦🇺🍻. I learned the hard way, bloody fun buying them though haha, no gibsons in there either, 2 great epiphone’s though 👍
I don’t know why everyone gets excited that epiphones are good. I love epiphone’s and if they good enough for The Beatles well… I would have loved to get one of these but it was slightly out of budget for me as i recently bought an epiphone les Paul custom and a Johnny cash edition Martin acoustic.. not to mention I couldn’t get one anyway so i have an epiphone 335 cherry and i love it.
I love the idea that it has a volute. Gibson should do the same with their guitars, would save players a lot of money and headaches from headstock breaks, plus the volute really looks good, much better than the Gibson unsupported headstock/neck.🙂
I have owed a Sheridan II for years and loveit.. Its a great blues guitar and Its my Go To guitar for playing Beatle's tunes. John Lennon loved his Casino.
The paint finish looks pretty good. One of the things that turn me off with Epiphones is that the guitars look like toys due the lacquer they use, this one looks shiny and good, good red color too. No idea how that would feel on the hands.
@@kenichi407 Weird, I've never seen binding glitches. I have about 4 Cherry, 6 Natural, 2 Black. They're all very consistent and QC is off the map. The Saen plant made some beauties, too. They won the award that one year and seemed to hold their work up to a certain standard as a result.
Your videos are always entertaining. Usually if someone hasn't played the guitar by about 2 minutes in I skip forward but I managed to make it to 8 minutes before I even realised you hadn't play it yet.
I got a epi lp jr for 99 new. Routed it for a tele neck pickup. I had 70's dimarzio sd I put in the bridge. Changer the tuners, installed a toggle and wired each of the two pots as respective volumes, no tone control. It's a keeper.
Really strange for me... I'm not sure if the sound was different on this video, but the tone of this guitar compared to the Gibson 335s just doesn't compare. Is it me? Or just these pickups don't do it for me. Could there be that much of a difference?
@@kenichi407 im not hating on that thing im just stating my observation. Also, I watched other videos of this guitar and it sounded ok on some reviewers. I'll prolly get this soon.
Epiphones are awesome guitars. These are pro level guitars. Best bang for the buck.Yea yea they aren't "Gibsons" you buy guitars to play. Play! Enjoy! Just remember lol EVH played a homemade partscaster. He hsd limited workmanship ability. Billy Joe Armstrong's mom store bought guitar, Paige's first albums a tele noba Gibson, Brian May's guitar well look that bad boy up. A dads love for his son. So on and so on. Technology has made the "lower" end guitars close the gap. It's a beautiful guitar! Thank for yet another great video. Wish you'd get your own signature. Gotta start somewhere. HEY Epiphone, Gibson owned company. A Trogly special!!!
The guitar sounds great, and you play very well. BRAVO!!! I've always liked playing 335 type guitars. Can't stand playing a Strat, because I always accidently knock the volume knob down. I always look for guitars that don't have the volume knob directly under the little E string. Such as Teles, Les Paul style guitars, and 335 style guitars. I've never had the 'knock the volume down" problem with those guitars.
Over the past several years Epiphone has stepped up their game. I have a Les Paul Traditional Pro III gold top from 2019 and it plays and sounds great.
Yeah, I've had two of the 'new generation' epiphones and they've both been totally worth the money. Unfortunately I have neither anymore due to moving and getting rid of like half my collection, but the Firebird and the 50's Les Paul were extremely adequate guitars. The only complaint I had was that whatever rosewood substitute they use for the fretboard just feels super dry no matter how much you oil that thing and the frets comes from the factory weirdly scratchy. You can play that in and it's fine.
@@HeelBJC Fretboard is pao ferro. My only issue is its a little light in color but its no big deal. I'd never heard of pau ferro before and researched it before buying and found out Fender has been using it for years.
@@bushcry1 Really versatile guitar with the split coil pickups. I almost bought an ESP but went with the Epiphone because you can split the humbuckers independently of each other. With the ESP you couldn't split only the neck or only the bridge.
Wow this is sweet and much more attainable pricewise for me. Joins my very short "next guitars to consider" list, maybe bumping Guild Starfire DC or Epi's own 335 or 339. Sounds good too, great range of tones and you could play hard rock no prob just by pushing your amp the right way. The pickups are basically the same as on my Epi LP Studio I bet, Alnico 2 and 3 probuckers. You didn't mention if they coil split. Great review Trog, thanks!
So it's heavy and has the Alnico Classic Pro pickups. Seems very similar to the Emily Wolf signature Sheraton. Just the F holes/diamond hole and the 2 Tone vs 1 Tone pot seem to be the differences. The price is about the same too.
@@colhutchins I suspect that if I had the choice of the two at the time, may have chosen the Riviera instead. Having said that, the Wolfe is great to play. It has a really slim neck, so I'd be interested to see how the Riviera compares.
How is the neck vs the recent standard Epi Riviera's? I have a few Riviera's from the early 1990's and the necks are much thinner than the recent Royal tan and sparkling burgandy models which are more like a standard 335 Epi.
If your Riviera has full size humbuckers instead of minis, and a stop bar instead of frequensator... what's the difference anymore between it and an Epiphone ES335?
@@salmosekka997 admittedly I haven't played those you mentioned. I also have a Les Paul Classic, A PRS single cut. A player plus Nashville Tele and an American pro II Strat. I always reach for the Riviera these days. It's just so good! I love the pick ups and the neck is phenomenal. (Some days the tuners piss me off. 🤷 ) I just love this guitar!!! It's a total winner.
@@salmosekka997 so I ended up buying an Epi 335😅. I find them to be very different guitars. The Riviera is more of a heavy rocker in my opinion. It sounds great through my Deluxe Reverb with a RAT pedal!! While I really enjoy playing the 335 clean. Sure I can drive it, but I just find that the 335 brings out a different side of my playing. 🤷
I have the original union jack epi and another union jack epi that came out about 10 yrs later. They both sound good I think the later one had 57 classic Gibson h/b. I'd forgotten about the solid blue one, pretty. The new one looks great dark cherry, I loved the clean tones cause I always play clean anyway. Nice American woman Trog!
I absolutely love my raspberry burst Epi 335, one of my all time favorite guitars But It has literally the exact same features and hardware for $300 less, get the regular 335 Pro and don't shell out extra for the signature
I got one and I agree with everything you said - great comprehensive review. I'll add, even though they are CTS pots, they feel like shit. Not very fluid and one is fighting me every time it passes by the metal pointer guide. That is annoying for how much I paid. Really wish the fretboard was rosewood for what I paid too, but I also got a really nice version of the Indian laurel, looks better than any Fender I can tell you that. You almost don't notice it, but if it was truly recreating Noel's it would be rosewood. Fully agreed on the pickups as well - I bought it to play Oasis and I'm not convinced that I'm getting the articulation needed from note to note, especially the highs. I raised the pickups on the treble side, but it didn't have as much effect as I wanted. The pickups are far too even and muddy, they need some bite and clarity if you ask me. I'd love to know what pickups were actually in Noel's 80's Epipohone MIJ.
I prefer an Ebony 335 over a walnut stain, so I actually like this darker model. Did you say thin tapered C? I like more chunk. But it definitely seems worth it’s cost and then some. I’d have to play it in person to really get a sense for the clean tones. If the waffles had cream knobs it would be even more appealing for me.
I love rivieras sooop much Nick valensi of the strokes played them Gibson doesn’t make them the original riviera has the freqensator tail piece which looks great
Pictures and video seem to never do the finish of a guitar justice. I bought a Gibson Les Paul Alex Lifeson Axcess in Viceroy Brown. I saw it in person and it put the pictures I saw to shame. This guitar has the same vibe. The color, the figuring in the wood and the polish job that it has. That’s a gem and it sound good as well. Not very many guitars left that I want that don’t break the bank. My wife says if you want a Burst I’ll have to sell my plane. Well then I may as well by 20 of them if I do that. Great channel, great videos. Always look forward to the new episode.
Does this have push-pull pots to split the pups? You're right that Laurel board looks incredibly good! I think it's because they oiled it up and and rubbed it in really well although some gunk ist still in some of the pores, usually they shipped bone dry which makes them look so bad!
not that tone cap type make that big of a difference on a guitar tone pot, but in amps i build i actually prefer the red xicon caps over orange drops. orange drops or generally for hi fi stuff at least that what i was taught by the old timer that taught me.i even pulled orange drops out of a used build amp i bought i put red xicon in them and its a killer amp.
Keep it humidified, and adjust the truss rod, incrementally, over time. This applies to all guitars, but more so for these type. Which makes the case even more of a necessity!
The feel of this one definitely made it the best Epiphone I've reviewed this year! Maybe not the pickups for me, but a solid guitar

Is quite rare, a single-piece fretboard and top, it doesn’t have any sticker or such to show that it’s an elitist model, but man it is a fine guitar indeed!
those are pre-elitist, which are consider very rare. I have a turquoise pre-elitist Epiphone eb-3.
I bought a red Epiphone, with a Bigsby, from the 60s in a box for $50 back in the 80's. I love its sound. Great for the blues.
Noel literally made me buy my first semi acoustic back in the 90s. A Korean made ES-335 clone by Samick. Noel's original Epi was made by Matsumoku and came with Maxon pickups and it is almost impossible to find one these days.
I have one.
He sure did, I was there when he forced you to buy it, dastardly fiend!
@@aureliusandthespiral bloody hell.....Noel needs to stop literally making people buy guitars....
Would you mind calling the endoscope a bore scope or inspection camera? For us older guys, hearing endoscope kinda makes us flinch.

What a mouthful. Hehe
At least he doesn't call it a colonoscope 😱
Send in the camera crew!
Well that's certainly one way of saying up yours LOL
I love your daily videos, they make me happier each and every day!
You know you're a guitar nerd when you know what a volute is. You might also have a bit of appreciation for Leo Fender's '50s neck and headstock designs that didn't need one.
Great review mines on order 2 questions what strings would you recommend , and on the clean tone we’re there any pedals used 👍
So I have had mine for 11 months now. I am very happy with it!
I play it through my Deluxe Reverb with a RAT pedal and it serious rocks!
I'm very happy with my purchase.
Epiphones have always been where you line up 10 and pick the best one. They're so different. Never sell the ones you like because they're incredible.
So very true. Ive had 6 epis lps and played dozens, but have 2 that I love, almost as much as my gib lp
@@aureliusandthespiral Yup, my personal fav is a Korean semi hollow LP from 99. I put 59 pickups on. It's my go to for the last 15yrs.
Thanks for keeping it coming. I enjoy your episodes a lot.
So happy with this guitar - my first Epiphone - I would highly recommend this wonderful beast!
out of curiosity as a beginner to learning the electric guitar how does this compare to say a epiphone sheraton 2 or epiphone 335
@@salmosekka997 For me, the price of this guitar is the only thing that stops it from being a true "beginners guitar". But ease of playing makes it easy to learn on.
Have a Nick Valensi Riviera and love it - my fave guitar I’ve owned and does early Oasis really well.
Nice review, nice guitar reasonably priced. Maybe the guys in charge at Epiphone should be put in charge at Gibson?
@@rexrathtar3893 i think he was referring to the craftsman in charge of making the guitars..

The people at Gibson oversee Gibson, they hired people to oversee Epiphone and the people at Gibson oversee the people at Epiohone not the details of running Epiphone. Make sense?
For fret polishing I recommend Lizard Spit fret polishing kit…$15 and you can do it yourself…easy-breezy, no tech required 😎
I do, too!
Love epi reviews- thank you for jumping on this one so quickly! You’re the best, Trogly!
Was the Rhythm guitarist Bonehead? I believe he bought his Riviera from the same shop as Noel and at the same time.
4:38 who is Noel Gallaghera?😄
"...polish or something got stuck in the wood grain." The downside of Laurel, the wood grain has tons of deep pores in it that denser Pau Ferro, Rosewood, Ebony, Maple don't have. Once they fill up with grime it's there forever. Sweet Gallagher Riviera otherwise.
Napta and a toothbrush with a bit elbowgrease !
Fill with epoxy, no more grime ;-)
I personally just don’t care? Thats the best way to live life
For Epiphone guitars, I've always enjoyed playing the Casino model.
Very pretty guitar. Definitely one of the nicest epis I've seen.
Maybe ..
I really like the tones . I have this axe on my "list" It's "out of stock " at my preferred dealer.
You should review the 2018 Epiphone Faulkner V. An Epi that costs more than a Gibson and is impossible to find
If you had to choose between the Noel Gallagher Riviera and an Epiphone 335 .. Which one would you choose and why?
I had a 1st year Epiphone Dot Studio with those pickups and I honestly believe they are my favorite pickups.
Gibsons are for hotshot lawyers who think shelling out the big bucks will help them become better players.
@@thenameless3271 I’ve got about 8 guitars that say that getting different guitars doesn’t make you better 😂🤦♂️🇦🇺🍻. I learned the hard way, bloody fun buying them though haha, no gibsons in there either, 2 great epiphone’s though 👍
this is a masterclass on how you avoid a copyright strike, but still make it very apparent what you are playing!!
80's Epiphones are awesome and I've always loved the Epiphone trade dress. Very stylish.
I love the idea that it has a volute. Gibson should do the same with their guitars, would save players a lot of money and headaches from headstock breaks, plus the volute really looks good, much better than the Gibson unsupported headstock/neck.🙂
Harley Benton is the only guitar maker who still makes instruments with the volute regularly that I know of
It has a volute cos it’s modeled after Noel’s ‘83 Matsumoku Riviera, which had one.
What is Trog looking for when measuring the K Ohms of the pickups?
I have owed a Sheridan II for years and loveit.. Its a great blues guitar and Its my Go To guitar for playing Beatle's tunes. John Lennon loved his Casino.
The paint finish looks pretty good. One of the things that turn me off with Epiphones is that the guitars look like toys due the lacquer they use, this one looks shiny and good, good red color too. No idea how that would feel on the hands.
A lot of them feel like toys too when you play them.
I love shiny lacquer. Don't know what people complain about.
The Guess Who live at the Paramount.
Great album. Thanks Trogg.
Can someone tell me by body size which is bigger, the Epiphone casino or the es 335???
I'll stick with my Korean-made Casino. Similar, but mine's light as a feather, no finish flaws, all the tuners work just fine, and rosewood 'board.
If your Korean-made Casino’s serial number starts with R, it’s very good guitar. It’s made in Peerlessguitar factory in South Korea.
The Peerless Rivies can be amazing, too. I have a few and a few Peerless Casinos. That factory was on it until Gibson deserted them for China.
I think it sounds great and I love the headstocks. I never liked the clipped ears on the older epiphone headstocks.
They sound cheap.
"Carved" back or "pressed" back. ?
What is the nut width?
I really want one, but I have an Epi ES-335 pro and minus the volute it's the exact same guitar only in a different colour
The only thing I didn't like on this review is the missed oppurtunity to play Don't Look Back In Anger on it but man swell job overall
Need to check it out...
@@jamesnewton485 That's cool. Which ESP are you referring to?
Wow this is sweet and much more attainable pricewise for me. Joins my very short "next guitars to consider" list, maybe bumping Guild Starfire DC or Epi's own 335 or 339. Sounds good too, great range of tones and you could play hard rock no prob just by pushing your amp the right way. The pickups are basically the same as on my Epi LP Studio I bet, Alnico 2 and 3 probuckers. You didn't mention if they coil split. Great review Trog, thanks!

have you reviewed the epiphone cornet and the wilshire? plus theres a third one but i forget the model...
What do you mean by “transitional” neck tenon? Thanks
So it's heavy and has the Alnico Classic Pro pickups. Seems very similar to the Emily Wolf signature Sheraton.
Just the F holes/diamond hole and the 2 Tone vs 1 Tone pot seem to be the differences. The price is about the same too.
Good pick up. I'm trying to decide between those two guitars and I hadn't noticed how similar they are!
Love the epiphone pick guard over the Gibson one.
If your Riviera has full size humbuckers instead of minis, and a stop bar instead of frequensator... what's the difference anymore between it and an Epiphone ES335?
I suppose just the headstock?

My local guitar shop has the blueberry burst Epi 335 but it has the same pickups as these. I wonder if the neck and nut width is the same
I got one and I agree with everything you said - great comprehensive review.
Seems like most epiphones are trending towards that $1000 range.
carved back? pressed! enjoy all your reviews!
I’d like a review on Epiphone ES-339 (inspired by Gibson)
I have an Epiphone 339, the center block looks like they yanked off an old pallet they found lying around somewhere
What do you call that tool that you use to model the next profile, the blue plastic thing @7:25? Thanks!
Does this have push-pull pots to split the pups?
You're right that Laurel board looks incredibly good!
I think it's because they oiled it up and and rubbed it in really well although some gunk ist still in some of the pores, usually they shipped bone dry which makes them look so bad!

Shen are they going to put the Vera one and Stereo back on those guitars ? Nice Tone .
Have you ever reviewed the Epiphone Riveria with 3 P-90s ?
not that tone cap type make that big of a difference on a guitar tone pot, but in amps i build i actually prefer the red xicon caps over orange drops. orange drops or generally for hi fi stuff at least that what i was taught by the old timer that taught me.i even pulled orange drops out of a used build amp i bought i put red xicon in them and its a killer amp.
Keep it humidified, and adjust the truss rod, incrementally, over time. This applies to all guitars, but more so for these type. Which makes the case even more of a necessity!
