I only had the honor of hearing Mr. Siepi once in a performance of Don Carlo in Long Beach California in 1985. Even at his advanced age the beauty and luster of his voice were still there. That was a night I will never forget.
...ok ,mostly unfamiliar repertoire ?...then just wallow in the sounds of the most beautiful bass voice that ever could exist ...guaranteed! ....quanto noi bassi abbiamo imparato da te ,caro Cesare !
Siepi kept his wonderful instrument in marvelous shape even into his later years. I saw & heard him in 1984 when he performed in LA SONNAMBULA in Seattle & it was beautifully sung. You Tube also has his recital with Freni a couple years after this & he remained in top form. I think he retired around 1988 but of this I am not certain. I have heard of no further performances after this.
