I've been an iPhone/apple user since I was 13 with my first iPod touch. I was pretty deep into apple with airpods, an iPhone, and iPad, and an apple watch. I made the switch to Samsung when I saw this phone announced. NO REGRETS. I got the watch6 classic, galaxy buds, and tab s9+ to pair with it and I couldn't be happier. If you're considering making the switch go for it!!
How do you find the watch compared to Apple? I have the Apple Watch ultra and it’s the one thing keeping my on iOS. Really wish apple would hurry up and open it up to android users.

I'm honestly highly considering switching from my iPhone 12 Pro Max to the Z Flip5! There is something about it that just seems so fun and exciting, and for me personally, no iPhone has ever had that factor. 🤷♂
I just switched to the flip 5 from the same iPhone and honestly I love it. Alot hasn't transferred Data wise because I did poor with backing up my icloud, but my Mac should do the job. With the tech specs I may honestly stay android gang

I got a 12mini … and since they dropped the minis. Maaaan… i did think i had a dead end… until i heard about z flip 5. But i don’t like the camera of the flip 5, so i hope z flip 6 gets a 50mp camera … if it does… goodbye iphone and all my apple stuff.
Maybe this will be the flip I'll get. Always worried about the durability of these flip phones. Although I think they will be the future as they become more advanced and durable. Flat screen phones are becoming boring and people are not buying new phones every year anymore due to them not having much change and also inflation.
They are not more reliable, my z flip 4 drop from 30 cm on the wooden floor and by by hinge, I can't open the phone fully now. Hopefully Samsung can fix it!

Preordered the Green to replace my ZF4. I don't use as a daily driver but the fun factor with these flipping phones on vacation or at social events using the cover screen as view finder for group photos is priceless something I would certainly miss if I no longer had one of these in my pocket!
@PeteMatheson agreed we're very lucky in the States when it comes to Samsung's enhanced trade-ins lately. The ZF5 with a storage upgrade is nearly free just by trading in the ZF4!
The first thing that comes to my mind is how I tried to switch to the 22 Ultra and I kept it for 3 months before I couldn’t take it anymore and got the 12 promax. However, my second thought is that iPhones are not changing as far as ultimate design and features available or new functions that mean something for at least my usage goes. I feel I’ve essentially had the same phone for 4 years outside of the 3 months. It’s time for a change I think. Like you said, the snap close after a phone call is *elite* and is so satisfying for my millennial soul. Im probably going to try to switch and hope that iPhone comes out with a flip sometime soon.
We had an S24 or A24 or something like that - lol - in the family, as well as an A15 and they were both returned. The ONLY Samsung I would recommend hands-down over a new iPhone, is a Flip 5 and very probably, a Foldable. I know I might get some slack from Samsung loyalists for saying that, but just personal preference and that comes from very recently making the switch myself from iPhones to (the) Samsung (Galaxy Flip Phone 5). It is AMAZING - and I can't see myself either going back to an iPhone (which I still have), or to another kind of Samsung.
Z Flip 5 is the fourth Samsung Z Flip I've owned, and I've never had to register my fingerprints twice/upside down. So I doubt that it's an issue for most people, maybe just some glitch for Pete? I do register more than one fingerprint (usually thumb, index fingere, and ring finger) to enable fast unlocking in different positions (thumb for holding the phone, ring finger for while the phone is on the table, etc.)
Beeper is invite only. Also, I haven't had any issues as all with the fingerprint sensor. It's the best one I have ever encountered. Always works on the first try wether opened or closed. I registered with the phone closed. Didn’t even think to do it with the phone open. I do turn my thumb all sorts of ways when registering though. I started doing that when I switched to the S21U because the phone was so big. Figured my hand wouldn’t necessarily always be in the same spot.
@@PeteMatheson no I had the note 20 ultra plus. It was much too big for my hands. This is a welcomed change. I think it's also why I went with the Zflip rather than the fold5.
Love mine too! Not the best, my S21 Ultra is way better in almost every aspect, but I am having so much fun with it and love the form factor and all the extra features it comes with
The finger print sensor works even when closed. You do have to register it but you don't have to use it upside down at all. When closed the finger print sensor works and the volume rocker works normal like normal up and down.
As a fellow lifelong iPhone enthusiast, I am anxious to try out the Galaxy Flip 5. If it meets my expectations it may find a place as a secondary phone. My Flip 4 did not meet my expectations and my biggest gripe with the Galaxy S23 Ultra is the large size. The Galaxy z Flip should have gone with 12 GB of RAM to help out with the more intensive Apps. My initial thoughts are that Samsung missed an opportunity to put this phone out of the reach of any competitors by going all in with the actual flagship specs. Just waiting for another disappointment ...
That's the shame here for sure! Wish they added flagship cameras into these devices. But at least we have flagship chips! Really excited for that. Hopefully the 5 lives up to your hope of a secondary! I'm sticking with a fold for my secondary, love the format!
Also, the chip although great at day to day stuff, is terrible at sustained workloads with some of the worst throttling ever seen on a phone. I saw one benchmark test where it lost 50% of its performance and was running like a three year old phone. But if you do not play Triple A Android games that will not be a major concern, but does explain why DeX is not included; the extremely poor thermals.
Z Flip 5 is the best flip phone of 2023. Compact, powerful and really fun to use. The window display is a game changer. The UHD 60 video camera is fantastic - content creators will love it. It really look and feels very premium too. No complaints from the day I received my preorder. Apple user for 10 years and the Z Flip 5 made me excited about mobile phone technology again

Been an iPhone user for 15 years. I remember when Z Flip 3 was launched, I decided to switch from iPhone to Flip. After 3 months, I sold the Flip and went back to iPhone. I appreciate the customization that you can do with an Android phone but boy I was overwhelmed. Now I feel I want to try this Flip 5 but Im confused af. 😅
i did the same, switched when the flip 3 was launched you just gotta power through, i got the hang of it eventually! helps to have friends who know how android works to help tho 😅
While stand by battery life is impressive, much better than Androids of days yore, I found the battery in every day use, even when doing simple browsing, checking email and switching through native apps, to be quite lacking. The battery's performance doesn't seem to benefit from adaptive brightness and limiting refresh rate to 60hrz. Heaven forbid you want to GPS for any length of time past 2 hrs. If you are coming from an iPhone, especially a Plus or Pro model, you will want, nay need, a power bank handy.
You don't need to flip open the phone to do a nfc payment. I got this phone and all you need to do is unlock the phone while closed and hold the back of the phone while closed to the terminal
Not a lifelong Iphone user but i have had the 3g,4,4s,5s,5c,11pro max and currently have the 13 pro i like Iphones although find them very basic and boring that however is something a lot of people like just the ease of use. I've went between Apple and Samsung i had an s7 edge and and s9 plus and i loved those phones so fun to use Android over IOS however i started to get comfortable with Apple again the past few years so i've ordered the Flip 5 i wanted a bigger screen but not a huge slab my jeans typically have no front pockets or tiny front pockets so i need the compact size and i like being able to use a phone one handed the main reason i got the 13 pro a couple of years back. Sure this isn't the best phone out there has a smaller battery and basic cameras compared to some but i'm not a heavy user and that little front display will be extremely useful for me especially using spotify or checking messages. If they ever redesign to ultra and make it rounded with a flat screen and a bit smaller i'd give it a go but for now it's ridiculously big and awkwardly designed imo. One last thing i have no clue why we get such bad trade in deals compared to America it just seems everything in the UK is worse value these days.
I've had an ipad/iphone since I was 8 (2005 baby 😅) so i obviously got VERY used to Apple. This week i switched from an Iphone 13 pro max to a z flip 5, and i am LOVING it. Literally my only complaints are that the front camera is not my favorite and the battery drains fast, but the rest is awesome. I love how customizable it is and the cover screen. I think its so fun.
Meeeee toooooo!!! I almost even sent back my Flip 5 because I thought I could never get used to it. Now I would NEVER go back. In fact, I still have a WORKING iPhone 15 Plus that I don't even LOOK at. Lol. I LOVE my Flip 5! I think the only thing I would maybe look at now is the Foldable.
For the fingerprint sensor, you can add more than one finger print, register your print right side up and upside down and it will work when open or closed
6:55 or simply assign a new fingerprint which isnt actually new as you just need to assign it with you finger upside down! so when your flip is closed all you gotta do to unlock is put your finger and the phone will think it is the other fingerprint
I have the flip 5 and i love it, before this i had the flip 4 and many other Samsung's. I loved the s10 5g cause of the big screen, but the flip 5 is amazing. I've only ever had one iPhone and never again lol

I wish I could share photos here. You said there's no zoom on the flip. I have my 3 right now, and you have 10x. You just need to tap on the 1x and the others will pop up. Or punch to zoom of course.
@@chepiksacc Yes, it’s digital from 2X upwards, not bad to 3X as long as you do not crop in, but after that, it becomes less usable and forget about 2X or more at night. I do not think any flip phone currently has optical zoom so it’s not as if you can go elsewhere, and the Flip 5 has the best primary so is the de facto camera choice.
True, I averaged out the SOT for reviews and somewhere around 4-5 hours over a day, which in 2023 is at the very low end of expectations. So really for casual users like Pete who may only dive in now and then. I do think that , in fact, the target audience is the casual user so I cannot really call it a negative per se.
Hello. I have an iPhone 13 and it works great, the battery life is amazing but I wonder if if I switch to the flip 5 battery going to be an issue. Also I don't know how safe android is in comparison with iOS in terms of malware and those things, which worries me a lot as well.
Im currently deciding between iphone and samsung as my secondary devicento my 23 uktra. However, after watching recent videos ab iphones and realising the flip line is a great secondary I decided not to go with apple after deep diving into which ones are available when im readt for it.
One week later.....I just sold away my Z flip 5. Because I'm not used to it though. I've been using iPhone since their first 3GS so I rather felt much more comfortable using my iPhone 14 Pro. I love it and it's awesome! The best features that I love about iPhones is that they have a "Silence Unknown Callers" which that only those people in my contacts will be able to call me. The rest will be automatically blocked by this awesome features! The Z flip 5 doesn't have this features though. During my one week of using the Z flip 5, I've received so many nuisance calls which really annoys me. Some are telemarketers and most of them are those people that dials the wrong numbers! Switching back to my iPhone 14 Pro gives me peace of mind with no irritating calls. Just one week, and it's a waste of my money though......
There’s actually an app for blocking unknown callers . Had to download a couple of them since the other one wanted a subscription yet I found one for free for my grandma 👵
I have always been an Android user. Thought this year I thought to switch to iPhone to see how different it is from iOS. But after watching too many Android vs iPhone videos, I have decided to stick to android and purchase a Samsung Flip 6 or S24 plus. Can't digest the fact that, even after paying more than 700 dollars, I still can't use split screen on iPhone.
I have ben thinking a lot about changing from my iPhone 13 Pro to this phone but the camera, battery life, and not being able to have my music from Apple Music directly on my phone is what's somehow stopping me. How can my music be transferred to the phone if I do the change? This is a primary concern, after that, camera quality. Thank you!
Can’t use Google Assistant when shut. Payments, only works with Samsung Pay, difficult to get shortcut working without. Fingerprint reader very unreliable. It’s a frustrating device, I swapped back to 13 mini, and Flip sits in drawer.
Imo im not really into flip phones, samsung is nice and offers huge variety of options and customization. Having said that, i appreciate the simplicity of iphone, so yeah sticking to my iphone 14 pro max, great review btw.
Really love this form factor. But will only swop to it when battery life and cameras improve. Planning on keeping ny candybar for at least another four years, by which time we'll know if this is a serious contender or just a fad.

Number 4 in the bad section isnt a problem at all. You just get used to it. After a month or so u wont see it (using z flip for 2 years)

I just love the clamshell design. The ds/3ds, the gba sp, they're so fun to use so having a phone that does the same thing sounds perfect

While stand by battery life is impressive, much better than Androids of days yore, I found the battery in every day use, even when doing simple browsing, checking email and switching through native apps, to be quite lacking. The battery's performance doesn't seem to benefit from adaptive brightness and limiting refresh rate to 60hrz. Heaven forbid you want to GPS for any length of time past 2 hrs. If you are coming from an iPhone, especially a Plus or Pro model, you will want, nay need, a power bank handy.
You don't need to flip open the phone to do a nfc payment. I got this phone and all you need to do is unlock the phone while closed and hold the back of the phone while closed to the terminal
Weird, i have the z flip 5 and the fingerprint biometrics are the fastest of any phone ive ever had, iphone amd adroid alike. Its almost immediate
They are great! It’s just the whole upside down thing that caused me issues

Not a lifelong Iphone user but i have had the 3g,4,4s,5s,5c,11pro max and currently have the 13 pro i like Iphones although find them very basic and boring that however is something a lot of people like just the ease of use. I've went between Apple and Samsung i had an s7 edge and and s9 plus and i loved those phones so fun to use Android over IOS however i started to get comfortable with Apple again the past few years so i've ordered the Flip 5 i wanted a bigger screen but not a huge slab my jeans typically have no front pockets or tiny front pockets so i need the compact size and i like being able to use a phone one handed the main reason i got the 13 pro a couple of years back. Sure this isn't the best phone out there has a smaller battery and basic cameras compared to some but i'm not a heavy user and that little front display will be extremely useful for me especially using spotify or checking messages. If they ever redesign to ultra and make it rounded with a flat screen and a bit smaller i'd give it a go but for now it's ridiculously big and awkwardly designed imo. One last thing i have no clue why we get such bad trade in deals compared to America it just seems everything in the UK is worse value these days.
I've had an ipad/iphone since I was 8 (2005 baby 😅) so i obviously got VERY used to Apple. This week i switched from an Iphone 13 pro max to a z flip 5, and i am LOVING it. Literally my only complaints are that the front camera is not my favorite and the battery drains fast, but the rest is awesome. I love how customizable it is and the cover screen. I think its so fun.
I use Beeper for imeessage and love leaving my iphone at home. Flip 5 is a blast.😢

Meeeee toooooo!!! I almost even sent back my Flip 5 because I thought I could never get used to it. Now I would NEVER go back. In fact, I still have a WORKING iPhone 15 Plus that I don't even LOOK at. Lol. I LOVE my Flip 5! I think the only thing I would maybe look at now is the Foldable.
For fingerprint problem, u need to place both ways, up and down when registering. Mine works great
For the fingerprint sensor, you can add more than one finger print, register your print right side up and upside down and it will work when open or closed
He said to do that in the video
6:55 or simply assign a new fingerprint which isnt actually new as you just need to assign it with you finger upside down! so when your flip is closed all you gotta do to unlock is put your finger and the phone will think it is the other fingerprint
I have the flip 5 and i love it, before this i had the flip 4 and many other Samsung's. I loved the s10 5g cause of the big screen, but the flip 5 is amazing. I've only ever had one iPhone and never again lol
Exactly the same. Loved the S10, had the flip3 (not4) and am now getting the 5. Only had iPhone for a little while. Not as amazing as all these phones!

for the fingerpint just scan upright and upside down and it will work which ever way u hold the phone.

I'm so so tempted to switch from my iphone to a z5. My main issue is I also have an apple watch and ipad that are all connected to each other. Which has been super valuable for me. If only we could exchange smart watches too 😭

Anything Snapdragon 8 Gen2 is pretty comparable to the iPhone pro max. It’s really not far off

I’m an iPhone user that is tired of Apple never upgrading or making any changes to they’re devices, I tried this phone and totally loved it, but my issues with it is that my daily apps don’t work on this phone (idk if is android) 😢so I had to returned and get back to iPhone unfortunately

I wish I could share photos here. You said there's no zoom on the flip. I have my 3 right now, and you have 10x. You just need to tap on the 1x and the others will pop up. Or punch to zoom of course.
There is no optical zooms like the 3X and 10X on the S23U, so 2X zoom upwards decreases in quality as you go longer in zoom.

@@chepiksacc Yes, it’s digital from 2X upwards, not bad to 3X as long as you do not crop in, but after that, it becomes less usable and forget about 2X or more at night. I do not think any flip phone currently has optical zoom so it’s not as if you can go elsewhere, and the Flip 5 has the best primary so is the de facto camera choice.

True, I averaged out the SOT for reviews and somewhere around 4-5 hours over a day, which in 2023 is at the very low end of expectations. So really for casual users like Pete who may only dive in now and then. I do think that , in fact, the target audience is the casual user so I cannot really call it a negative per se.
4-5 hours of screen on time is not enough for me. I can easily get more than double with my 14 Pro when I need to. @amfrepo
Hello. I have an iPhone 13 and it works great, the battery life is amazing but I wonder if if I switch to the flip 5 battery going to be an issue. Also I don't know how safe android is in comparison with iOS in terms of malware and those things, which worries me a lot as well.

Im currently deciding between iphone and samsung as my secondary devicento my 23 uktra. However, after watching recent videos ab iphones and realising the flip line is a great secondary I decided not to go with apple after deep diving into which ones are available when im readt for it.

One week later.....I just sold away my Z flip 5. Because I'm not used to it though. I've been using iPhone since their first 3GS so I rather felt much more comfortable using my iPhone 14 Pro. I love it and it's awesome! The best features that I love about iPhones is that they have a "Silence Unknown Callers" which that only those people in my contacts will be able to call me. The rest will be automatically blocked by this awesome features! The Z flip 5 doesn't have this features though. During my one week of using the Z flip 5, I've received so many nuisance calls which really annoys me. Some are telemarketers and most of them are those people that dials the wrong numbers! Switching back to my iPhone 14 Pro gives me peace of mind with no irritating calls. Just one week, and it's a waste of my money though......
There’s actually an app for blocking unknown callers . Had to download a couple of them since the other one wanted a subscription yet I found one for free for my grandma 👵

You don't need to unfold the phone to pay. you can just pay while the phone is folded too.
I have always been an Android user. Thought this year I thought to switch to iPhone to see how different it is from iOS. But after watching too many Android vs iPhone videos, I have decided to stick to android and purchase a Samsung Flip 6 or S24 plus. Can't digest the fact that, even after paying more than 700 dollars, I still can't use split screen on iPhone.

Can’t use Google Assistant when shut. Payments, only works with Samsung Pay, difficult to get shortcut working without. Fingerprint reader very unreliable. It’s a frustrating device, I swapped back to 13 mini, and Flip sits in drawer.

Really love this form factor. But will only swop to it when battery life and cameras improve. Planning on keeping ny candybar for at least another four years, by which time we'll know if this is a serious contender or just a fad.
