I love the form factor. I use it closed for taking and checking off notes, using the flashlight, quick replies, and storing easily. I use it half open to browse/read while I'm eating as well as taking pics/videos, and then open for regular use. I thought it was a gimmick until I started actually using the phone. I also have 13 pro and while there are things about iOS I miss, I thoroughly enjoy this phone.
I think it will be, and it will no doubt be improved upon over future model releases. Nice to have an option available to choose to be different than the vast majority I think. Loving mine, so long as people are willing to accept it's not totally perfect as yet.
I've been using all the flips since the 5G model and I have never once sat back and complained about a minimal crease on a phone that is actually able to fold😂😂 people should be complaining about the lack of expandable storage and dust resistance not things that actually allow your phone to fold
I know man, I upgraded from the S10 and that was what I was disappointed about tbh, they removed the SD Card Slot to charge more for the bigger storage space. However, the crease really isn't all that bad for me, I got used to the crease, and it's not really that noticeable

I am a self confessed tech addict and as such, I'm always buying the latest mobiles that take my fancy. I currently own & use the following handsets: Iphone 15 Pro Max, Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, Google Pixel 8 Pro and now also the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, as reviewed so well here. I was attracted by the retro feel of having a foldable phone again, after owning a Motorola Razr V3 back in 2004. I avoided earlier foldable phones due to the uncertainty over build quality. I must say that this review here is very accurate indeed and should tell you all that you need to know if considering getting one yourself. As for my own personal opinion, it's a great phone, love the overall design and the spec is more than adequate for most. Yes, the crease in the centre is noticeable and can be felt at times, but given how relatively new this concept of foldable phone screens still is, it's certainly not something that bothers me in the least. I have bought a decent case for mine, which does protect the phone very well and keeps pocket dust etc from intruding, all whilst still being able to fold it fully and comfortably have it in my jeans pocket. I particularly like the functionality of the exterior screen when folded, being able to glance at notifications and also use apps without needing to open the phone. I have the clock & date permanently on display, which I find useful. All in all, this is a great effort from Samsung and I am loving it. Obviously there's no doubt we will see all similar form factors improve further over time, nothing stays the same for too long these days.

So would you say its worth buying because the only flip phone I ever have had was my first phone ever that was prepaid 😂 the only thing I am worried about is the crease a lot of people are saying that with in a year the crease will damage the screen and it won't be usable & when I get a upgrade I usually have that phone for about 4 years or so & I love Samsung I currently have the S22+
@DionMedia Would this be a good upgrade to the iphone 12mini? Looking for a improvement on camera and battery. Doesn't have to be massive just better than what I have already. I like compact phones.
That's a great review. Would you please emphasize that using Goodlock and Multistar on the outside screen can readily be used for full apps, drawing a distinction between that and the Labs?
My wife has one and I suggest that you do NOT purchase one. The screen has already died (Went dead Black.) Looking at it, it looks like the screen delaminated at the crease (Fold). This is essentially a new phone and will be covered under warranty but any thought of this thing lasting 2 years or more went out the window as far as I am concerned. If you are the type of person who upgrades every year you may get lucky, but I doubt it. She could have just got a bad unit and yours will be just fine so who knows?
I switched to a Flip 5 about a month ago and im so happy with it! The only problem ive had with it is dust. Some dust has already made its way somewhere into the hinge and now it makes a crunchy noise when opening the phone, although noting really noticeable really
Phones have become exceedingly boring. Nokia's N series phones were amazingly distinct and had a character of their own. I had N8, N95 and various others and it was such a great experience.
Yeah. The N series were awesome. I miss those phone. Too bad the management and research department of that company weren't smart enough. Phone devices that had so much style and character.
Hi Sarah, The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 comes with a built-in screen protector for its interior screen; however, the front screen lacks this protection. As a result, it is worth adding a screen protector to the front screen to help protect it from damage.
Thank you for this review. I am so on a fence (on a hinge?) about this phone and still debating whether to go for iPhone 15 Pro Max. Great point about the hinge part of the screen. Now I wonder how long it will last.
I am Samsung folding phone user. Please don't buy any folding phone. My Samsung galaxy z flip 3 screen broke from folding area without physical damage. And service centre says it will cost 31k for repair this😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Is people really complaining about creasing in a phone that folds??? Holy shit as long as it does not break I am more than happy... creases are normal on anything that folds or bends... like shoes...
i just wanted to add although i wasnt keen on my iphone 13 at all ,it was like carrying a brick about, and this z flip reminds me of my Razr, i will not give up my ipad for the world, i think its the best portable computer ever, been using for 12 years and not looked back
The Hinge seems to be a issue on my flip4. Started glitching when I opened and closed the phone. Had to replace. :( Loved it till that point. I hope the flip5 is better.
Call me crazy but probably the worst part with this iteration is that Samsung seem to have forgotten color when it comes to their device over the last couple of years. For people buying one of these folding devices they're the ones who actually care what the device looks like.
I am reluctant to buy another flip zflip1 got vertical green lines then turned off when closed, 1yr 3month old dead, zfilp 3 1yr 4 months vertical green lines... both the paint came off the body middle hinge a lot of wasted money, I am now using my old a5?????? Still in excellent condition.......
The fact that the entire main screen integrity depends on a stupid plastic protector is the thing that keeps me away from any flip phone... Maybe some day, if they manage to create some sort of flexible gorilla glass...
Personally I'm not a fan of flip phones. Like why pay a premium price for a lower tier camera and more fragile screen, just for the ability to fold the phone.
For me it’s compact form factor is great, so fed up of carrying around a brick, the other options being the iPhone 13 mini, but iOS doesn’t appeal to me.
Precisely because it flips. The compact size makes it better to carry around and the satisfaction of closing your phone after a call is not something you get from regular phones. I’m seriously bored of the regular phones cause like other than the camera quality nothing really upgrades but the flip phone has the concept of actually folding taking us back decades while at the same time keeping foot with the current time.
