One of the coolest things about Encanto is how it shows how easily it is to never think of someone further than their immediate use/their defining trait. Luisa is strong so no one questions when she might need help/be weak. Isabella can make beautiful flowers so no one encourages her to be anything else, etc.
Lin Manuel Miranda didn't HAVE to go this hard on the soundtrack, but he did and we all love him for it.

It really is. I’m the oldest of four kids (not to mention two other siblings I don’t have contact with, which doesn’t count, but full disclosure) and it is hard as hell. And not to mention there’s at least a decade between the second oldest and myself. This song became my anthem SO fast LOL
Overlooked symbolism: Donkeys are beasts of burden that carry great
loads. They symbolize strength and stubborness.
That's why I love them in their unicorn form.
Lin manuel miranda (guy who wrote Hamilton) did the mmusic for this movie. The man is a genious. Its so catchy and heavy at the same time. We dont talk about Bruno is also great!

What I love with this song is the building of their family relationships. Throughout the song she’s protective her sister from danger. No hesitation she just does it. Nobody is strong enough I help her but she has to be strong enough to help everyone else x

@@leahmoore6820 Never forget In The Heights! Still my favorite creation of his. Encanto in many ways felt like In The Heights for kids. Anyone who even just tangentially likes Lin's work needs to watch/listen to it.

Lin Manuel wrote "Surface Pressure" as a tribute to his older sister and when I first heard it while watching the movie, ngl it made me ugly cry.
I’ve watched so many reaction videos for this song and you are one of the only ones, without the context of the movie, to pick up on the message of the song so quickly. Yes, it’s a bop and yes, the visuals are creative and colourful (it IS aimed at children after all!) but Luisa is outwardly confident and strong and does it all, but when she “peels” the surface she’s scared and feels worthless and vulnerable. I cry almost every time I hear this song. Great video!!
It's a great song, the movie's awesome, I hope you've seen it by now. That song always hits hard, especially towards the end, the bit that gets me is when she's literally picking up the whole-ass family house and demanding "no mistakes" of herself. literally carrying the whole family, you know? A point someone else made that I like - the donkeys are part of a job she's doing when she gets distracted by her song, and the fact that they're so heavily featured in the video is kinda telling, like they're representative of her. Like she's not even a person, she's a commodity, a beast of burden, and damn it hits different when you think about it like that. It's such a good story.

Looking back at the song I notice the song slowly gets more darker colours as the song continues and gets lighter when there is positive things brought up and gets more dark as the details of the pressure and stress are more elaborated specifically the point when they consider shaking the weight of expectations as soon as they start going back to the growing pressure and explains how it keeps growing and keeps going because all they know is the pressure the sky’s turn more and more dark it’s subtle but is a nice detail

you should watch the movie it is very good.
One gripe I have with this sequence is I think the visuals at times got too comedic, like having a donkey dance or dress as a unicorn to sort of mask the serious tone of the lyrics. I'm sure it was intentional to show how the character is masking her insecurities, but it's still distracting sometimes. That's why I personally only like to listen to the audio only version.
