Im so glad you’re looking into these songs as well. I hate how everyone hates descendants because ever after high ended… why can’t we just like both? They’re both good :( Btw, R.I.P. Cameron Boyce, Carlos was my fav❤️🕊
Fun fact: Kenny Ortega specifically choreographed Chillin Like a Villain as a tribute to Michael Jackson. Or at least thats how I've heard the dance moves be explained. Also, seeing Cameron Boyce as Carlos still to this day breaks my heart. Knowing that Descendants 3 was his last appearance before passing away makes me appreciate it that much more in a way.
Another song that Uma (Daughter of Ursula) sings is It's Going Down, it's like a rap/hip-hop song that she sings with the main character, if you like her you should listen to that one too.
4:21 China Anne McClain (Uma) also has a song called 'Calling All Monsters' she first put out with Disney when she was like idk... 13(?) And then did a 2021 version with her siblings, they're both pretty cool
Descendants is a bit frustrating for me, who is obsessed with logic and the canon of Disney movies, because they never explain how the villains who died are alive on the Isle of the Lost, or why Uma’s color is teal when Ursula’s colors were all purples, but there are a lot of Disney villains with purple color schemes
Well I can explain the first one. In the books, the villains that died were brought back to life by King Beast, solely to be placed on the island. It’s super disgusting honestly. Imagine being brought back from death just to be imprisoned.
@@suckitgreenboiiiii1921 that was my thought too, since in Cinderella 3 it’s shown her wand has the power to reverse time and create alternate timelines of events
Added context: The first song you listened to (What's My Name) is the villain song of that movie so of course it needs to slap and be among the best of the Descendants series. The second song (Rotten To The Core) sets up the four main characters we follow in the movie series, introducing them to us and giving us small bits of their personalities at this point through their actions and lyrics (such as how Jay is a bit of a kleptomaniac, Mal is a bit of an artist as we see her painting graffiti, Evie is self centered shown by her walking on the table without caring for those using it, etc). It also does let the audience know that even though they're kids of big villains in the Disney universe, they haven't had the chance to do really bad things beyond basic teenage hooliganism due to their situation and also gives us an inkling that though they believe they're bad and that they have the potential to be, they aren't quite at that point of no return and thus have potential for being good. The third song (Chilling Like a Villain) goes with Andrew's context, but they aren't married, just in a relationship that put her in the spotlight. Mal believed she had to be perfect which clashed with who she is as she's not a stereotypical princess, and due to the stress of this she ran away back to the island (it's easy to get in but harder to get out due to the veil). Her friends and her boyfriend followed to try to convince her to come back and the song is pretty much them trying to teach the king how to blend in so they don't get caught (they haven't been too popular there since leaving) and so they also don't get killed. As for the tech, I think it's implied that their technology is run mainly on magic, so while the mainland advanced, the villain island (which has no magic) stayed as it was. A real-world comparison could be a country that's in self-isolation only depending on itself and not having contact with the rest of the world, whereas other countries share info, tech, and goods thus pushing development and progress. The king also gave them back their own phones, showing that he is learning as he was able to steal from them without them noticing. The final song (Queen of Mean) is pretty much what Apple White from EH could've become if she had really been a mean girl. Basically a "typical high school bully/mean girl that has potential to be good falls to become a villain" song and definitely my favorite song of the third movie. I definitely recommend watching the movies. They give so much context to the songs and the songs sometimes take on new meaning with that added story. Plus a lot of the weird moments oddly make sense. The series can be cringy at times, but it's kind of part of its charm in a way. Some of the people who worked on the High School Musical series worked on these and you can kinda see it in the song sequences as they're shot and choreographed as if they were music videos at times.
The line "You need to not be yourself" from Evie is really the whole conflict point of D2. This song really highlights how hard it is to conform Ben to the "Villain lifestyle" for mere survival, and how that was exactly what he expected Mal to do in Auradon.
You’re like the best reactor to Queen of Mean for me because I watched a bunch of reactions from vocal coaches and no one mentioned anything about her singing through a key change. That part of the song is really cool to me.
Hoping for Space Between on the next Descendants vid. One of my favs. What’s My Name is definitely, IMO, the best of the Descendants songs. It’s the one I genuinely remember the most of. China Anne McClain kills it.
While on the topic of Descendants, I just want to say Rest in Peace to Cameron Boyce (AKA Carlos/The guy in red black and white 11:20 ). He sadly passed away in 2019 and I'm not sure too many people know about it. He was a great guy.
My favorite Descendants song is technically a fan-made mashup of "Ways to Be Wicked" and "What's my Name" it slaps so hard I can't believe that even these songs as mash-ups work so well.
I’m always taken aback when I see people I watch acknowledge Descendants cause it was literally my entire personality for years. I genuinely had an unhealthy obsession with it. I found old texts with a friend where she was like “can we please talk about something other than Descendants?” And I said No. I also still have 6 cardboard cutouts of the characters in my room. Over 30 books 70+ dolls multiple posters and insane amount of random collectibles including backpacks notebooks perfumes cups shirts board games dvds cds pens jewelry wigs bedsheets and pillows I’d buy costumes and clothing of it even though they didn’t have my size. amongst other random things….. I have other interests now. :)
19:44 Fun fact, when this movie came out, this song was trending number one on the RUclips trending page for what I think was like a few days (I can’t remember exactly though) IT WAS TRENDING FOR A REASON!!!!
As someone who has watched and enjoyed all 3 Descendants movies in my childhood, this video ultimately brought me back to road of nostalgia. I'm glad to hear (mostly) positive comments from your reaction Matthew, and it would be nice to see you react to more songs from this movie. Now whenever I watch anything from these movies, I always find myself just watching Carlos (white haired guy). Cameron Boyce was just such an amazing performer and dancer, it’s crazy that it’ll be 5 years he’s been gone next year. I truly hope he’s resting in peace

Chillin' Like A Villain is where they are trying to teach a Ben how to fit in on the Isle so nobody recognizes him, also that wasn't his phone, it was Carlos'. Ben pickpocketed it to show he was learning.

Descendants has a similar comcept to EAH but thir both really different and both good honestly theres always been a fight wether which was the better concept due to i think EAH being cancelled for more descendants movies (?) But i think both are great in their own way, personally im more into descendants rather than EAH but i still watch both and their great :)
Yeah, the descendants series dropped when it was the end of EAH, but it's not actually that that made them stop doing the EAH. It's because EAH was created to sell dolls, and the dolls weren't selling anymore, they were just creating it and losing money on it, so they decided to stop. I think that Descendants kinda played a part in the series stopping, but mostly it was for the dolls!
Mathew’s reaction to ’What’s my name’ got me really excited, haven’t loved that song so much in such a long time. Last time was probably when I first saw the movie back when it came out. 2nd movie is undoubtedly the best one from what I can remember of ’em. You should listen to ’Night falls’, that one’s a bop.

The first time I heard Uma's song was when I went to visit my aunt, and that movie was showing on TV. I remember that I was bored, until the song came on and I was like, "why is it so good??"
I wasn’t interested in the first movie when my younger sister watched it but after seeing China in Black Lightning it was strange seeing her in the second one but her voice is incredible and probably the reason I like the second and third movies more than the original
Ok, but China is literally my favorite actress. She is pretty, a great singing voice, in a movie series I love! ( Descendants), and shares my religion. Like, she is awesome!! 🤩. I have a playlist of a lot of her songs from Descandants and ANT farms and various covers that I love to listen to!! 😁.
I knew he would like “Queen of Mean” more than “What’s my Name”. They are all great songs and this video had some of my favorites out of all the films.
If you do end up doing a part 2, I recommend "Its going down' from Descendants 2, it's one of my favorite songs of the entire series, as well as "Evil like me" from the first movie
I 100% predicted that *Queen of Mean* would overtake *What's My Name?* XD But PLEASE do more of this series! I grew up with Descendants so this was a treat for me (and also, if you want to watch the films on the channel I would love that!)
7:45 the setting is supposed to be like a giant trash can. In the first book (which happens before the first movie) they explain that everything they have, clothes, food, furniture, comes from the trash of Auradon. So, yeah, when Mal tells Ben she has never eaten a strawberry is because no one throws a strawberry or anything that's good to the trash, therefore they have never tasted it. They even have menus like "coffe with flies" or "bread with mold".
I can't express how much I enjoy these reaction videos! Thank you so much for being so open to new experiences, watching your videos is always such a joyful experience!/gen I have a couple suggestions for future videos that I'd really appreciate if you would consider! Scooby-Doo music: You wouldn't think it, but Scooby-Doo has some killer music, anything from the fictional band the Hex Girls, Terror Time Again, The Ghost is Here, Scoobystition, Hello Cyberdream, Brothers Forever, there's some really good stuff! And Star Stable music: Star Stable Online is a video game with accompanying music similar to what League of Legends does and a lot of the music is really good. There's a whole roster of Star Stable artists including in-game characters like Lisa Peterson and Katja, in-world artists like the Miscreants and DJ Kai, and real-world artists like Folk'Avant and Nomi, and they're all so good! And lastly, just for confusion factor more anything else, I'd like to suggest Psychonauts out of context! Psychonauts is one of my favorite video games, and knowing how wild it is in context, I'm sure it's a doozy out of context! Thank you for reading, please consider my suggestions, have a great day, and keep being awesome!

Love the video! In case you were looking for media that was in the similar vein of "based off of a Disney villain or hero"(although mostly just villains in this case), I'd recommend listening to music from Twisted Wonderland. Almost every character in the game is based on a Disney Villain/Antagonist in some way. The game currently has 3(sung) songs although one is for a limited time event The songs are: Piece of my World (main theme of the game) Absolutely Beautiful (a song that plays a bit later in the main story) Make a Wish (the event song) In case you need more though, I'd recommend these two as they're both played fairly early in their respective chapters(or books as they're called in the English version) of the main story during rythm game sections Grab that Grim! (Prologue) Paint the Roses Red! (Chapter 1)

Honestly China Anne McClain must have had so much fun filming What’s My Name - the choreography is just so great
Im so glad you’re looking into these songs as well. I hate how everyone hates descendants because ever after high ended… why can’t we just like both? They’re both good :(
Btw, R.I.P. Cameron Boyce, Carlos was my fav❤️🕊
oh! i wasn't aware people hated anything! i just actually love both since they came out :00
@@woongrawrs6825 Same, when I first interacted with the fandoms I was like "wait, I was supposed to pick only one?"
Actually Cameron's last appearance was a movie called Runt
When I saw Pirates pop up on the screen I got so hyped cuz I remember how hard Harry hook EATS his rap solo
While on the topic of Disney and villains, I highly recommend The Villains Lair, it’s like a fan made series on RUclips and their songs are SO GOOD ❤❤
Omg yes Pattycake Studios is amazing!
Seconded
Thirded!!!
Yaaaaasssss
YESSS! Also Princess Academy!
Another song that Uma (Daughter of Ursula) sings is It's Going Down, it's like a rap/hip-hop song that she sings with the main character, if you like her you should listen to that one too.
It’s Going Down is up there on the list of the best songs-
4:21 China Anne McClain (Uma) also has a song called 'Calling All Monsters' she first put out with Disney when she was like idk... 13(?)
And then did a 2021 version with her siblings, they're both pretty cool
Descendants is a bit frustrating for me, who is obsessed with logic and the canon of Disney movies, because they never explain how the villains who died are alive on the Isle of the Lost, or why Uma’s color is teal when Ursula’s colors were all purples, but there are a lot of Disney villains with purple color schemes
Well I can explain the first one. In the books, the villains that died were brought back to life by King Beast, solely to be placed on the island. It’s super disgusting honestly. Imagine being brought back from death just to be imprisoned.
@@neb.9489 but how did Beast bring them back??? He’s not magic, he was just cursed by the Enchantress!
you boring asf its giving "teacher dont forget to give us H.W"
@@v.v365prolly fairy godmother 😭?
@@suckitgreenboiiiii1921 that was my thought too, since in Cinderella 3 it’s shown her wand has the power to reverse time and create alternate timelines of events
Added context:
The first song you listened to (What's My Name) is the villain song of that movie so of course it needs to slap and be among the best of the Descendants series.
China is a queen!! Literally my FAV actor!! Such a pretty voice 🥰
Yes! Like why is no one else saying this?
If you do more disney music, please do lemonade mouth and let it shine 🙏 Superior soundtracks
Let it shine made me like Rap for the first time it's so good
Yes! Let It Shine is so underrated!!! Disney drove Tyler and Coco into the ground cause the movie didn’t do so well!!!
@@anaphchan6783 Absolutely criminal. That movie was one of the best dcom's and should have done better!!
I know it has zero to do with Disney but I also want him to do make it pop just because 😂
@@ivoryxestelle OMG YES!!! I thought I was the only one that knew about that show! Nickelodeon robbed that show so bad!!!
While on the topic of Descendants, I just want to say Rest in Peace to Cameron Boyce (AKA Carlos/The guy in red black and white 11:20 ). He sadly passed away in 2019 and I'm not sure too many people know about it. He was a great guy.
I know that this happened & now everything I see Cameron Boyce in a video I get a sad bc he was a great guy who died to soon 😭🥰
😢
We are going to miss Cameron boyce
My favorite Descendants song is technically a fan-made mashup of "Ways to Be Wicked" and "What's my Name" it slaps so hard I can't believe that even these songs as mash-ups work so well.
Queen of Mean has been on my playlist for ages, it's so good, I'm so glad you like it
I’m always taken aback when I see people I watch acknowledge Descendants cause it was literally my entire personality for years. :)
I low-key want some cardboard cutouts now
Fun fact: chillin like a villain's choreography matches with almost any song
Edit: Tysm for the likes🥰
Cool
@@Gaons.hair_ WHY DID YOU EAT ME?!?!?!?
@@Thatonepenguin123 no silly! I was the penguin. Now I'm grimace.
Wait till he finds out that there's a mashup of Queen of Mean and What's My name on the disney channel youtube
19:44 Fun fact, when this movie came out, this song was trending number one on the RUclips trending page for what I think was like a few days (I can’t remember exactly though)
IT WAS TRENDING FOR A REASON!!!!
As someone who has watched and enjoyed all 3 Descendants movies in my childhood, this video ultimately brought me back to road of nostalgia. I'm glad to hear (mostly) positive comments from your reaction Matthew, and it would be nice to see you react to more songs from this movie. A couple of suggestions I would like to request:
“It's Goin' Down” (D1), “If Only” (D1), “Did I Mention?” (D1), “Good To Be Bad” (D3), “Night Falls” (D3), “My Once Upon A Time” (D3), and “Break This Down” (D3)
Now whenever I watch anything from these movies, I always find myself just watching Carlos (white haired guy). Cameron Boyce was just such an amazing performer and dancer, it’s crazy that it’ll be 5 years he’s been gone next year. I truly hope he’s resting in peace
descendants was just after my disney-time growing up but as an adult i jam out HARD to some of the songs from those movies (especially whats my name and their rendition of poor unfortunate souls) bc they unironically slap so much its wild
“its going down” from descendants 2 is an absolute banger
I really enjoyed the Descendants, I wish they did more with it. Also, the Descendants are the children of the previous generation of princes and princesses. For Example, Uma (the pirate with blue, braided hair) is the daughter of Ursula.

@@histy7284 Yup, a fourth one is on the way, though the original cast, as far as I know, is not coming back considering the circumstances. The new project follows the story of Red, the Daughter of Queen of Hearts, and a few other newly introduced characters. China McClain is also resuming her role as Uma
Queen of mean threw me because it was actually so dark. Nothing to lose when you're lonely and friendless. Like damn Disney loved it
I’m so happy you’re finally doing Descendants! Definitely make more of these
Descendants does have good music. But I'll forever be bitter for Ever After High
oh same. i love both but eah has a special place in my heart. I was SO pissed when they cancelled it
Cancelling it was a real ah move :/

I won’t
Do more of both please 🙏
Chillin' Like A Villain is where they are trying to teach a Ben how to fit in on the Isle so nobody recognizes him, also that wasn't his phone, it was Carlos'. Ben pickpocketed it to show he was learning.
Some of my personal favorites that you might enjoy:
If only(1)
Evil like me(1)
It’s going down(2)
Ways to be wicked(2)
Do what you gotta do(3)
Night falls(3)
I will forever miss Cameron Boyce. Rest in peace Luke Ross
Yes descendants music absolutely slaps 👏🏻
I need follow-up videos to some of these where we get to see Mathew watch the movie or the show.
Yes! I'm so surprised you haven"t heard these songs before! There are so many more you need to listen to. One of my favorites is called "My Once Upon a Time". Though i would suggest finding the extended version. The movie version is okay, but you get more with the extended
So true, one app a time is awesome, and basically recaps the whol series 😎👌🏻
Sophia Carson who plays Evie (blue hair) is in a Cinderella story-esc adaption called Cinderella If the Shoe Fits that actually has a lot of pretty good songs
Andrew is such a mood for knowing all the lyrics to "what's my name", especially the rap
11:30 “Drag your feet, lean back…eat babies for a snack.”
I love how almost noone ever realizes that the actor who plays Jay played Seth in the Twilight movies
Also since you like Queen of Mean, might I recommend the Queen and King of Mean mashup?
I know it, I love Booboo, but honestly my favorite role of him is in JATP! I loved Willie!

Incredible songs questionable story but I’ll forever love it

15:54 basically all the villains even the ones who previously died
The royals thought that death was too easy of a way out so they used magic to resurrect them and then placed them there because living basically as normal without power to them is a fate WORSE than death

Exactly what I thought when I first saw the dancing in it.
@@hannahhester8376 Glad I'm not the only one! Feel like it's not talked abt enough lol. I love the choreo so much!
He's basically what you'd call a Regent, or acting King.

Seeing Cameron Boyce makes me sad! He was in Jesse. Jesse was a show I watched in my teenage years. RIP Cameron

I'm SOOOOO glad you reacted to this😍😍😍😍😍 would love to see more of the Descendants series😍❤ also, just wanted to say that you look amazing🥰🤗

The game currently has 3(sung) songs although one is for a limited time event
The songs are:
Piece of my World (main theme of the game)
Absolutely Beautiful (a song that plays a bit later in the main story)
Make a Wish (the event song)
In case you need more though, I'd recommend these two as they're both played fairly early in their respective chapters(or books as they're called in the English version) of the main story during rythm game sections
Grab that Grim! (Prologue)
Paint the Roses Red! (Chapter 1)
