Yeah, to say Cameron Boyce, the actor for Carlos, was a good dancer isn't an overexaggeration in any way. It was one of his many traits as an actor. He was truly talented in every sense of the word. May he rest in peace.

I love Lonnie talking about moms making cookies and talking things out, because I like to imagine that Mulan, beautiful badass that she was, also has the depth to have the domestic mom vibes Lonnie talks about. although I also think Shang (assuming we're going off the Disney movie couples here) would totally have Kitchen Dad Vibes. now, I do realize that this movie kinda throws a LOT from the movies aside (EQ fell off a cliff and was crushed by rocks.. Maleficent had a sword through her heart and turned to soot) but I am very upset that we never got to see Mulan herself.
I hate how they just ignored the cultural background of everyone (and that most villains died at the end of their films, like not only maleficent but evil queen (who has a real name, as well as king beast, and noone cares about thar), ursula and gaston to name a few. Jafar turned into a dschinn after the first aladdin movie and after mal turns out to be half god half fairy in the third movie i say its a pity that nothings ever done with this...) like isnt there cool chinese candy lonnie couldve had in her childhood?

Like, I'm absolutely not saying that Mulan could never bake cookies, but from a cultural standpoint, why would she have made them so often that that's what Lonnie calls back to? But I also do understand if I'm reading too far into it and she was just coming up with the example bc they were literally making cookies at the time

Imo it’s actually really interesting that they basically put abusive parents instead of supportive parents in this series. Now that I think of it, I don’t know if I’ve seen that in a doom before? At least not on this scale. Even Maleficent acts pretty nice to her daughter but only to fulfil her own goals and stuff

For those here who didn’t read the first book, Mal and Ben had weird dreams about each other since before they even met and that is why in the movie they looked at each other like that when they met, not because they liked each other but because they saw each other’s faces in their dreams and that is what made them start to like each other.

26:37 a lot of people didn't mention this but you know how ben went in the enchanted lake and the love potion went off.
He mentions that he loved Mal and then he stayed hesitant for a bit as if he didn't know how to feel about her since he knew about the potion, so he wanted to know what Mal thought about him, and when Mal responded he thought it was a good opportunity to get together. Also that explains why he was in the lake for so long, not only was he finding a wish rock or something he was getting out of the potions grasp while in the lake witch why it took a while
That scene between Mal and Evie talking about their parents awakened something in every single kid with emotionally abusive parents, aka me

🤣 She did a good job at pointing out things i never would have realized on my own about the movie, such as Maleficent singing in the range Disney princesses usually sing in and Ben sitting on the shoulders of a person who is bent over during the pep rally scene. Great reaction!

It always struck me the implications of abuse (Mal flinching when her mom so much as touches her) and the direct mentions in the books (Carlos is literally his mom's servant)
Ngl, the state of the Isle was a lot worse in the books, I think. Heavily implied that Auradon dumped their trash on the Isle.

Sure, you could say it was just him being kind and welcoming, but you could clearly see the connection/emotion. He even mentioned while the two were on the carriage that his feelings were real. He was only under the love spell for a day or two before his date with Mal, and when he got out of the pool he still brought up the fact "Mal, I said I love you. Do you love me?" Although I don't like Audrey, I can't ignore the facts. But yes you're correct, she did break it off with him first. 🤷🏾♂️
"Carlos can dance" really draw my attention. he is probably one of the best dancers, because Cameron Boyce was a dancer since really young, so he was pretty goo when making this movie. is so sad that he died, he was really talented

You should totally watch the other Descendants movies. The soundtracks get so much better with each film (as does the production budget, you will notice). We do lose Kristen Chenoweth but we gain China Anne McClain and Cheyenne Jackson, which totally make up for it.
China's voice is so underrated and powerful damnn and chillin like a villain is a bop!!

Kenny Ortega named the Julie and the Phantoms’ characters Luke and Carlos after Cameron Boyce’s characters in remembrance of his death. Kind of like an homage to him.

Actually, the kids on the isle had a pretty decent schooling system; it focused mainly on being evil and whatnot but Evie read books

Love how Hannah is basicly everyone's mum through this. "Don't go meet with a boy under the bleachers, a Boy you don't even know", "don't go on a first date in the woods"...
So, Cameron Boyce (the actor playing Carlos) actually did a portion of the choreography for all three of the movies. Unfortunately, we will never get to see his skills expand due to the fact he had passed in 2019, but a lot of good did occur after in his name (ex. The Cameron Boyce Charity to stop gun violence and to find a cure to epilepsy.)
My brother has epilepsy and when I found out that Cameron Boyce (who was defiantly one of my favourite Disney stars align with Dove Cameron) had passed, it reminded me of how close my brother had been from dying due to a seizure. I’m glad that the Cameron Boyce Charity happened, and I’m glad people are so willing to help change the world for the better. Unfortunately, you don’t really hear of many good things happening now, but every now and then you stumble across something good or happy, something that makes the world a better place despite it only having a small effect on the planet itself 😅
Having epilepsy myself I’m so thankful for his charity. When I found out that he died of the same condition that I have it really affected me. Watching him on tv growing up and knowing that he wasn’t much older then I am makes me realize just how precious life is.

15:45 - It's a manipulation tactic. Mal is saying that, if Jane were to get her mother's wand, she would be able to make her 'beautiful'. It's what Jane wants and Mal is playing into that want by telling her that the only way to give her what she wants is by getting that wand and giving it to Mal.

Okay I'm seeing a bunch of fun facts from the book so here is a sad one: Mal's name wasn't supposed to only be Mal. When she was born, her mom wanted to call her Malificent but changed her mind and decided that she would have to earn that name. So Mal was never good enough for her mom to get her full name and that's why she knows her mother sees her a s not good enough.

Actually, I'm pretty sure Mal's full name already is Maleficent. It's just that her mom thought she should have to "earn" the right to use the full name. In one of the official books (not the ones by Melissa de la Cruz; I think it was the Descendants "yearbook" that was released after the first movie), Mal's name is listed as being "Maleficent Bertha" on her page.

I have seven year old. I have seen all of these movies more times than I can count, and I know all the songs by heart, as does my daughter.
You should react to all of them. The vocals are all pretty great, and my daughter would absolutely love it.

Cameron (Carlos) was a very talented person and dancing was one of his favourite things I believe he actually helped with choreography in the movies
The "staring contest" is that of a power struggle. Maleficent is using magic to corrupt her daughter (Come full circle of the movie Mel is able to withstand her mother's influence, to be a queen in her own right). Also, another harsh fact of life for the kids on the prison island. Cruella terrorized her son with dogs.
What is a really travesty is that they had Broadway stars as the parents of the villains and ONLY 1 SANG?! That was just a ginormous injustice... but I miss Cameron Boyce the most

The scene with mal being a total mean girl bully is actually really well done when considering that she's playing off of the other girl's insecurities to get what she wants. She's also still committed to giving her mom what she wants at this point. It's a good movie. Love your channel by the way, your personality is so fun!

Some background info on the Descendants franchise:
It was created as a rip-off to Mattel's Ever After High series. It's one of the reasons that so much money went into the series and they went after such big names. They were intentionally trying to kill the EAH series.
It was a originally a book series, that established as a bit more of the characters as well as the relationship between Mal and Ben. Ben actually had a dream about Mal in the beginning of the series, which was one of the reasons that he wanted to free the children of the Isle.
The book series also focused more on all four of the kids, rather than just making Mal the main.
The food, clothes, etc. on the Isle are all leftovers from Auradon, and most of the food is unhealthy and spoiled. The people on the Isle essentially act like healthy food would make them soft, and pretend to prefer rotten food.
The kids on the Isle did have a school, in fact, they had 3. One for those interested in piracy, one for those with magical parents, and one for kids without magical parents. A number of villains teach there, as well as Yen Sid, who was sent by King Beast to make sure the kids had at least basic understanding of technology as well.
Makes me sad that it killed EAH because that was a huge part of my childhood (I had almost every character except for the last couple that came out in the last year or so) but at the same time I still love the descendants movies 😩 they are different enough that I love them both just unfortunately one lead to the downfall of the other
The outfits and characters of EAH were really good too. I liked how they made the daughter of Snow White shallow and entitled because she knows that she is destined to have a perfect happily ever after while the daughter of the Evil Queen felt like an outcast and inherited more of her father's kindness than her mother's evil. Other characters like Cerise Hood who had a dark secret about her family was obvious but still interesting, the daughter of Cinderella has a weird shoe obsession, and let's not forget about Sleeping Beauty's narcoleptic party-loving daughter. They were really portrayed very uniquely based on the traits from the original stories and it broke my heart when the franchise got cancelled.

Mattel was actually going to create a line of descendants dolls, very different from the characters in the movie, but it was scrapped, eah came out, and the Disney princess licensing rights went to hasbro in 2016.

The price for the Descendants dolls when dropped were around $10, where as the EAH dolls cost about $20-$25. They sold shoddier quality dolls for cheaper, and took away the licensing from Mattell for making Disney dolls to Hasbro in 2015. I'm not sure if it's canon in the books so correct me if I'm wrong, but people in the fandom write fanfics where the general consensus among the writers and readers is that the Isle citizens eat garbage from garbage barges that are brought in from Auradon. I wish the series wasn't Disney because I would've loved seeing how awful the Isle would have actually been with only villains on it and how the four VKs would struggle & cope with the trauma and PTSD.
That's actually Canon! At least the books state that what they get is rotten leftovers from Auradon. Mal for example loves to get coffee from a goblin run coffee shop but I think the coffee tastes like mud since it's stale and stuff
