This song made me realize, Oh this movie won’t be like other Disney Films in the past. It deal with genuine internal struggles. It didn’t shy away from it. I loved this movie. Great songs. Great message. Really dives into social and family pressures.
What? Most disney movies deal with real issues. Especially the older Disney movies. Did you ever watch Dumbo? Hunchback of NotreDame? Even Frozen and Tangled had some deep things going under the fun part.
@@irisselene2325 I understand what you are saying. But those were more, watch these bad things happen and see the character overcome it. These songs were internal dialogue you would only know talking to the characters. Luicia tried to convince herself everything was fine. But internally, she was dealing with something no one knew. She was drowning under the pressure.
@@irisselene2325 You're right. The first thing came into my mind was "The Next Right Thing" from Frozen 2, which clearly is a song about depression. Disney always tries to give their songs some deeper meaning. Well.. not all of them. Some are just for the fun^^
Can relate. I’m the second oldest of 7 and my older brother is schizophrenic and bipolar. Before that I was still the one that was more responsible and trying to help with the family.
"See if she can handle every family burden" That line hit me so hard, Jessica Darrow did such an amazing job in this song and her overall role as Luisa. You should really watch the whole movie, but you should definitely turn on the subtitles cause one song in it is in Spanish and you wont grasp the full meaning without the lyrics.
This is my favorite song from Encanto. Luisa's voice- in my opinion- shows the most emotion out of anyone. The donkies, while amusing, show how Luisa is treated like a 'beast of burden'. I also love how throughout the song, she 'protects' Mirabel and even shows her concern when fixing her glasses. Everything translates so well into her character. Jessica Darrow also has an amazing voice. I love how it doesn't fit the classic 'Disney' singing vibe.
Ironically, the only thing fans seem to be talking about is Bruno. But yeah, this song carries a LOT more emotional and narrative weight than We Don't Talk About Bruno. The classic test for songs in musicals is try to imagine the movie/play without each song in turn and see if the experience still holds up without the song. IMO, WDTAB doesn't add enough to the story - we already heard that Bruno predicts the future, went missing under mysterious circumstances, and that everybody doesn't like talking about him in Family Madrigal. You can take WDTAB out of the movie and the narrative structure and emotional weight doesn't really change. Whereas Surface Pressure begins the turning point in the story by revealing that even those in the family with powers have their own struggles, and hints how Mirabel's lack of powers (and by extension lack of expectations) might actually be the true blessing in the family. This in turn colors her interactions with the rest of the family members moving forward, especially Isabella when we get to What More Can I Do?
I was watching this movie together with my little sister, and when this song came on, she asked me if that is how I feel, I literally broke down and cried and she joined in lol, I love my family
My older sister hasnt watched the movie yet. I'm waiting for her to watch it so I can tell her that this exactly how I feel she must feel. I'm so thankful for having such a stronger and responsible sister but I never really understood before how sad is everything she has had to carry on all along. Now I feel that I must love her more than ever
The thing I loved about your reaction is you started out laughing at the visuals then you see how you were absorbed in the message not the humour of the visuals. I think it surprises everyone when they first hear it at how true and deep and relatable it is.
Luisa referring to a hurricane as a "light wind" showed me that she downplays the seriousness of some of the things she feels she needs to tackle. She definitely has a hero complex
Finally! I have watched over 25 reactions to this particular song and this is only the 2nd reaction video that doesn’t just brush aside or not understand the message and feelings this song is about
I just wanted to say I appreciated you talking about the meaning behind the song. You are the first male reactor that I've seen that didn't get hung up on just her physical strength. It is just refreshing to hear other people relate to this character and song the way that I did, so thanks:)
Loved the honest reaction! And I'm also loving how this song is starting an important discussion. You could listen to Family Madrigal to get a feel for the story and then just enjoy the movie (you could react to it if you want but just do what you enjoy the most)
I LOVE all Disney movie. I watched this one with my grand babies a week or so ago. When this came up the movie, man could I relate. I am the oldest of 4. I am known as the strong one, the one everyone turns to about pretty much everything. I will admit that I don't mind helping & being there when no one else can't handle something. But, after my daddy passed, I was there planning his funeral & holding my mama up. Now, my kids were there for me. I have 2 wonderful kids, and they can read me better than even my parents or siblings. After about a week of taking care of everyone else, they were there to hold me up when Ifinallycouldn'thandle being what everyone else needed. You can't be strong ALL the time. Lyle, you really need to watch. One of my favorites by Disney & that's saying a lot.
Might be odd, but I kinda like how you went from commentating and chuckling at odd things to being silently drawn in and showing increasing visual investment/concern for Luisa's situation. Some very strong nonverbal reaction. :P
What gets me is that Luisa is ashamed of her nervousness and her insecurity. You see that when she starts talking about the pressure again after wishing for some time to herself.
I don't know why but I can't see this "music video" 12 times or so, I just can't do it without crying, this girl is in so much pain and its so relatable
"Encanto" does mean magic, but it also means "charm", as in "that person is charming". What I love is that you can see how charming they all are, each member of the family, powers or no powers. They're just a bunch of good people doing good things for their community.
honestly if I had time and energy i would do a 12 Pg essay on this song, there so many like sentences that have so many meaning my English teacher would love th8s
So on the one hand, this movie is absolutely incredible and knocks it out of the park on so many levels. On the other hand, listening to this song, I can't help but wonder how many of the animators for disney empathise very strongly with this song as they go in for their next round of overtime.
This song is my Fav. Of them all... it's in Disney+ not on Netflix.... I think this song speaks for a lot of people that feel like they hay to be strong all the time, specially when others just expect them to be strong! It's sad
My fave part is the first few lines where she stops to take this deep breath/sigh...and i feel like every person who is the "Luisa" in the family has those moments. You want to scream, kick, cry but you cant. So you just take a deep breath, shove it all down, then try to keep going threw all the B.S.
I love that she is protecting her little sister through the whole song. She moves her sister out of danger and she runs towards the danger to protect her. Just beautiful.
i prefer this song to bruno. Burno is good but this one carries more emotional attachments that people feel when their insecure about being the strong one handling all the issues until it feels like your going to break. this is probably going to be one of my favorite disney movies for the new generation because its more focused on internal real life and family struggles than on classic tellings of magic, or a princess and her knight in shinning armor saving the day.
This is the magic of music by Lin-Manuel. Miranda. If you haven't listened to it, I strongly suggest listening through the musical Hamilton because it is just beyond incredible. Reactions to it in order would be cool if you have time 😂 but that musical will change your life
My father, trust a lot of our family issues on my older brother, till this day, my brother upbringing built him different than the rest of us, into someone reliable and diligent.
Encanto is easily translated into 'charm', where it means two things! You know, a magical 'charm', and personal 'charm' in Spanish! So I feel like it's a play on words by the creators - smart and cute
mmhmm, I've seen so, so, so many different people reacct to this, and a lot of them pretty much went through the same process as you. "Oh this song rocks" "wait... but the lyrics though..." "...goddamn this song is so sad... but it's exactly the song that everyone needed, and needed to hear."
Notice how the donkeys at first are chilling and doing their own thing but when Luisa sets Mirabel down in front of them they immediately have their attention on her. Just a detail I noticed.
I loved your reaction!, I saw the movie and this song hit hard and it hit home. this song was so great too I loved it and it’s just so heartbreaking to see that since I can relate ❤️ subscribed too
According to the grandmother in like the first or second line, and Encanto is a place of Wonder. So basically it translates to place of Wonder and magic
I always liked how the end of the fluff segment she still looked positive but her words were implying the opposite and then in the next segment it almost seemed like she was showing empowerment despite the struggle but if you look closely at her expression you can tell she's sorta losing it.
Experience the full scene from Encanto featuring “Dos Oruguitas,” now a Critics’ Choice Awards nominee for Best Song. Encanto is now streaming on Disney+ ruclips.net/video/DUGtyj5QlEM/видео.html
I see on your channel you've done some christian reactions.. Could you react to thy will by hillary Scott? Its basically the only thing getting me through the past month.
Hey, you need to re upload this. Cut up the video and add in commentary after every minute. Disney will ruin you if they find this video the way it is now. Just don’t want you to get in trouble. Adding commentary is the only way to avoid them
I cant help but notice the shift in your body language and there were some tears being held back there. Mainly because I reacted much the same way. I have handled punches to the face better than this song

They finally pulled a Pixar! I LOVE Disney movies but they usually aren’t so *real* in the emotions like this, imo.
