This movie follows the typical south american style of "Magical Realism", famous for instance for the novels of Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
It combines the realism of a small Colombian village with the magical impossibility of a grandma that admits to being wrong about something.
Genuine LOL.
Underrated comment 😂
Well played.
Did not see that one coming 🤣🤣
exactly! and the butterfly is a specific reference to Gabriel García Márquez.
One of the things I love about this movie is how most of the powers correspond to family roles, e.g. the strong one, the one who changes shape in order to please others, the one who knows everyone's business, the one who speaks uncomfortable truths and gets scapegoated, and so on. It's really clever.
The other one whose beauty will seal an alliance with a prestigious family. And the kid's gift, that is worthless for now, until the grandma can exploit
Fun fact, if you look up the typical roles of a dysfunctional family you will find every one of these architypes.
@@Angelikared Isabella is also the one that looks the most like Alma and so she tries to live the perfect life through her own granddaughter. Mariano looks a lot like Pedro did, so he should be perfect for Isabella(only in Alma's ming though as Isabella hates him) to marry.
Alma is so toxic until you learn that she is just stuck in the past and hasn't lived past seeing her husband be murdered in front of her.
@@FurreverFaith I played all three of them at various times in my childhood lol :(
“We Don’t Talk About Bruno” just beat “Let It Go” for Disney’s highest charting hit from an animated film.
Because on a technical level it is better
As it should 😌
Now we just have to wait for the Leo Moracchioli version. He did the best "Let it Go" cover after all.
Lin Manuel is a genius. That is all.
that is interesting to me because i am not one for "mass/social media" and i liked Luisa's song best, i have watched this movie 1 time.
This is the story of millions of Colombian people. We lost everthing. Disney thanks to show to the world our Colombian breaks, hurts and pains... also our love, music, color and amazing culture
@@carn9507 it can be both tho,, it’s clear by how much research went into encanto that at least the team behind it did want to create an authentic story. Disney might’ve been seeing it as money bags, but the people making it do spend a ton of time working on it, and it is a very personal story for a lot of them.
It doesn’t have to be one or the other
@Carnivius While I understand what you mean about, I feel like I'm doing the absolute minimum. As an black American I would like to see an animated movie where the character that's supposed represents me actually stays human for the entire thing. But that being said, we also need technology to Disney is a business period, and it's a business run by old cisgender white men. Some money is going to be the way that we force them to actually put the representation out there. Because if we don't support the movie because we don't think it's enough. They'll turn that around and be like, "See, we gave you what you said you wanted; you didn't support it." And then using that to justify not giving us more.
And I'm in no way saying that we shouldn't call out the fact that they are doing the bare minimum. We definitely need to. And that can be with supporting other companies that are giving us more period when they are doing the right thing. But we also need to acknowledge that it's there and it's available. This is a movie where all the cast is Hispanic and the majority is actually of Colombian descent. They also took cast and crew to Columbia to do more research to make sure that what was being put out was authentic. I'm just saying let's not throw out the baby with the bathwater. But let's still throw out the bathwater
@@carn9507 You're generalising Disney as a company. Yes Disney only cares about money (just like Nintendo), but the hundreds of people behind the *movies* simply want to tell stories. The animators, storyboard artists, musicians and everyone else had one goal in mind. To tell a compelling story and showing the world the Colombian Culture. So keep in mind there is always more than one side to things.
They people inside the company always fight for more representation, here it was for Luisa being a big, muscled woman.
One day the higher ups will be changed to new management and hopefully things will finally get better.
Sexual assault happens everywhere in every industry. Disney should have a policy in place for such things. Like even on The Voice we hear about assault. It has to be handled better.
I feel like they did more than the minimum here.
The ppl who worked on this actually went to a real Columbian town and community and they talked to all the citizens to get their expert advice from them the clothes food architect music and even places plants and animals and customs
By the way, the rebuilding of Casita took months. They didn't make it obvious, but you can see that halfway through that sequence that the father's bee stings have already healed, WITHOUT the healing food. It's during this time they likely did most of the actual talking and healing.
They also show the seasons changing over the course of the song.
@@nickwittednonpareil True, but it's harder for most people to notice - my first watch, I thought it was a night to day cycle, not a seasons cycle.
It couldn’t have been that long, Mariano’s nose was still bandaged, so unless he broke it again offscreen it couldn’t have been more than a couple weeks or so.
The moment that shows the ENTIRE THEME is when Isabella gets startled, pops a bunch of flowers in her hair, and Abuela pulls out the single white one. Even when startled she has to be perfect, and she has to show herself in ways that OTHER people like.
I read that Disney thought kids would want Isabella dolls because she was beautiful and perfect. But there was more of a demand for Luisa dolls because she was super strong. They actually had to make more Luisa dolls.
I'm 50, and something I've noticed over the past generation (in America, at least) ... girls and young women fantasizing not about being the most popular or pursued ... but rather possessing INDEPENDENT STRENGTH. I have to imagine this has a lot to do with how women in America truly are independent now, but the public world remains a PHYSICAL threat to them in a way that men don't fully process.
An alternate, related female fantasy is the "doting bodyguard" ... a male protector who is letting HER call the shots ... the merman in "Shape of Water", Danaerys' dragons, Wanda's Vision, even Bumblebee in the last Transformers movie.
Quick google search pulled up nothing so I can't verify that, but it sounds unusual. Little girls still very do much like pretty (in general. Let it Go dress transformation sold Elsa dolls like nothing else!). But there's nothing wrong with liking strong too.
@@carlotta4th Is Elsa a character that is "popular and pursued"? No, she has independent strength and retreats from a world that can't handle her power
It's like Disney themselves forgot the moral of their own movie
Disney missed the point so much in the merch... Not only Luisa is great and of course people would want her dolls, but also if they wanted to sell Isabela dolls they should have made dolls with her new look and not the perfect one, because little kids can understand seeing the movie that Isabella was unhappy pretending to be perfect and that the look at the end is who she really is, and if a kid likes Isabela why would they want the doll from when she was unhappy???
Disney basically used their own villain trope to sub/consciously trick the audience into believing Bruno must be bad, when actually he’s a precious little dumpling!!! There’s also some great tie ins with the importance and history of emeralds in Colombia ☺️
04:51 One way to look at Isa is to look at this moment. She's saying exactly what Alma says like 30 seconds later. Her words and opinions have been molded by her Grandma. Of course, this isn't bad, but it shows how much her grandmother has influenced her and groomed her into the perfect golden child who has to uphold the family and the family image.
This is top insight. Isa has internalized her abuela’s attitudes toward mirabel.
The outfits are colour-coded.
Abuela wears red
Bruno wears green (Opposites)
Pepa's side wears yellow (Though Dolores has a red skirt, showing her closeness to Abuela)
Julietta's side wears blue.
Well, almost all of Julietta's side. Isabella wears a pinkish-lavender.
While Dolores at least has clear distinction between the red and yellow, Isabella is completely molded by Abuela.
Until after her revelation, when her outfit becomes a deep blue colour.
(24:55)
"She's only thinking about herself"
hold on, that is actually a good thing. up til that moment, she was NOT thinking about herself.
granted, we haven't really seen it that much in the movie, but she was never doing things for herself. she made flowers because it was needed. We never saw her actually being selfish. she had only two interactions with Maribel up to this point in the movie, the hair in the face, and the "I don't want a word out of you", both can be boiled down to "the family needs this to go flawlessly, so don't screw it up".
One aspect I like about this flick is that there's no villain. It's less about a cut-out evil-doer and more about bad things done by good people with justification... then changing their ways to avoid continuing to do damage.
Ya the villain is toxic family dynamics and generational trauma.
Once you're reminded at the end that Abuela is literally a war refugee who feels she's under just as much pressure (to care for the village) as she puts on the rest of her family, it all makes a lot more sense.
What I enjoy so much about this movie is that the plot has rather low stakes - like the world is not gonna end or anything. It's mainly just this family and how their behaviours affect each other...
I mean, to be fair, the Encanto that the entire village lives in, IS their little world. There were bad people outside the mountains. And they've been isolated, having to deal with their own problems.
Which other animated Disney film has higher stakes than this? I can’t think of any. They’re all low stakes.
@@Bubble170 Well that depends on what the character deems is high stakes. It depends on their world view, and what they see as dangers. It's high stakes to them, because THEIR whole world is in danger.
Lion King is Pride Rock
Inside Out is just Riley
Moana is her Island and the Ocean
Frozen is the Kingdom
Encanto is the Encanto
Toy Story is just the small group of toys that stay together
101 Dalmations is just the household, with the puppies and all.
@@DAMIENDMILLS yeah but none of them are bigger than Encanto is my point. The comment implied that other Disney films have the entire world at stake when usually it’s the same level of stakes as Encanto in my opinion, from the perspective of the character the stakes are always huge.
@@Bubble170 i agree
24:54 "She really only thinks about herself."
Right after she mentioned the exact opposite circumstance by making the family happy at her personal expense and detriment. XD
Ikr I was like “wtf are you talking about????”
Bruno was 'Evil Green' in the 'We Don't Talk about Bruno' song because people were portraying him as a villain when really all he was doing was telling people prophecies they didn't want to hear. His prophecy stones are probably green for the same reason, not because they are evil but because they are unwelcome.
Also - Mirabel's glasses and the nursery (esp at the start of that song) also were green, perhaps indicating in a more subtle way her unspoken role as acting family scapegoat (and connection between her and Bruno). I love that Disney is playing with it's own tropes (green = evil/bad) as part of the visual storytelling.
Either that or because green is the color of the MCU's Time Stone.
Camilo (the shapeshifter) portrays Bruno in that song as looking scary, but we should also realize that the last time he saw Bruno, he was probably pretty young - he seems to be just a couple of years older than Maribel, and she was 7 when Bruno disappeared. Bruno's reputation as being creepy/scary had probably been pretty well established by then, so that's how he remembers him. Also, Camilo's kind of a troll.
@@elbruces I honestly don't think it has anything to do with the MCU, but it is a theory.
Bruno only flaw was that he was too brutally honest he gave the people exactly what they asked for their future he didn't sugarcoat it
I don't think Dolores can control her hearing. She's always talking in a whisper, and claps her hands really quietly and we see her cover her ears at times.
Which is why I don't understand why her room wasn't a soundproof sanctuary for her. But I guess when I think about it, everyone's room is there to train their abilities. Antonio's jungle allows him to be among all the animals and get to know them and how to best use them. Isa's room is a place for her to practice her skill growing things, though it seems like Abuela Alma molded her into someone who just grows pretty flowers, because it's obvious she can grow whole TREES. (Her gift would have been much more useful growing food that the village needs, but she is the first grandchild, the eldest, and like a lot of us first grandchildren she is more spoiled and doted on than the ones who come later.) Bruno's room was obviously a space to have visions, and I think the fact it was so hard to get _to_ that specific area where he has them keeps him from just using that gift all the time. Instead of just casually using that power, he has to _work_ to have a vision.
Those are the only rooms where we see the inside, of course, so we can only speculate about the others. But if Delores' room wasn't a soundproof area for her to get away from all the noise, that's just mean.
Because I'm Mexican, it is my duty to explain this on every react to Encanto. In Spanish "Miercoles" means "Wednesday", but it's a way of deflecting from "meirda" which means shit. So it's like saying "ah, shoot" instead of "ah, shit".
Órale, manito. Lo explicaste muy bien. 😁 Un abrazo Hispanoamericano desde Colombia 🇨🇴
The song has a lot of meaning, especially if you are Colombian. It talks about growing up, transforming yourself, adapting and growing, especially when violence has touched your life as it has happened to all of us in Colombia. Also, for us, butterflies, especially yellow ones, are a symbol. Our Nobel Prize winning writer, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, uses them as a symbol of the resilience of the people of my country, and how we transform pain and sadness into something better and more beautiful. How we have overcome violence and pain to grow as people, as a country, and to move forward in spite of everything.
💖
In the song "dos oruguitas" or "two Caterpillar" the lyrics say
"Hay que partir y construir su proprio futuro"
Which means "needs to break and build your own future"
So the house needs to break to creat a better future or like how the Caterpillar have to break out of the cocoon to became a butterfly "or a better versions of themselves"
oh how great this comment, so much time watching the movie and analyzing and I had not noticed the image 🤗💖🤗🇨🇴🇨🇴🇨🇴 thanks
Isa's look when Abuela says she "spoke to the Guzmans" says it all. She REALLY doesn't want this, and the five babies line just makes it worse.
The actress Stephanie Beatriz (who voices Mirabel) apparently recorded the song "Waiting On A Miracle" while she was IN LABOR. Holy moly, she's awesome!
As a latin american I can tell you, your first mistake when it comes to Pepa is assuming you can just tell a latina to calm her emotions.
Yea you are right XD this is to common for the girls in my old school (I am Venezuelan)
The Bruno's green is Disney's "Go Away Green". Which is the color in the parks for things they don't want you to notice. AKA, we don't talk about Bruno.
I didn't think about it like that, but you're completely right!
"Go away green" is much more dull, like a mini golf course's fake grass. Bruno's green is bright and neon, they aren't the same at all.
@@carlotta4th His "powers" might be neon but I think his outfit is a pretty muted shade of green, closer to the Disney stuff.
How did they make a sentient house so freaking adorable? Seriously it was my favorite character after Camilo.
Antonio is a true homie. He sent that toucan to make sure mirabel would be alright.
23:16 This was probably already mentioned, but Bruno's color is green because of Colombian emeralds. His visions are made of emerald.
Thanks for this fun fact! Hadn't heard of it before myself.
WHAT? Totally disagree when you guys said “She only think about her self” referring to Isabella.
Isabella never allow herself to actually think for herself. She was so pressure to be this “GOLDEN CHILD” everyone wanted her to be. She even says it “I didn’t want to marry him, I was doing for the family”. Image even marrying a man you don’t love just because your family is expecting for you to do so, abuela basically chose Mariano for her. So she was in this huge bubble of perfection letting her desires, dreams and everything she truly wanted aside.
Yes, and she showed durong the proposal she doesn't want to marry him
@@a.g.demada5263 Even at the family dinner, with the flowers popping into her hair and one being "wrong", you could tell she wasn't interested in marrying him - but it's so easy to play off, thanks to Dolores adding the comment about "he wants five babies", as being scared of having that many babies! This movie improves SO MUCH on rewatch when you can see all the foreshadowing they put in - and it's an amazing movie to begin with!
@@kristinw2600 yes, I think she was afraid because of rhe five babies but when Camilo turns into Mariano she didn't like it.
I also noticed during the first song, she didn't pay attention to Mariano when he appears
When they said that she only thinks about herself I was like "Wow... what a way to completely miss the whole point", because the point was the Isabela hadn't been thinking about herself until that moment, she had been too worried about always being perfect for the family and after creating the cactus is the first time she starts doing things just for herself even if they aren't perfect.
I would have understand they thinking she only thinks about herself before, but saying it in THAT scene was baffling.
@@ladyorapma I give them a pass on this one because they said it right at the *start* of the in-universe reveal, where Isa spells out how she was always driven by pressure too, and Mirabel is all “oh yeah, I get it now”. There were hints earlier, like the white flower and the “five babies” comment, but (probably by design) those hints were easy to misinterpret as something else up until that point.
11:14 "Ooh.. what is that? I want that.... Ok, I've got to write that down. "
I had the same reaction to this scene 😂 They (arepas con queso) looked so good, I had to try them. I made some for dinner last night, and they do not disappoint. They are awesome!
Happy you enjoyed! 🇨🇴
@@gabrielavilajr.9148 My kids have already asked me to make them again! 😁
@@janeldavis905 Awesome!
If there are any Colombian restaurants in your region, you should definitely check them out sometime for other goodies and snacks.
I get them from the farmer's market most times I go. They also give me a little cup of some 🍍 concoction that reminds me a type of salsa. I keep meaning to buy a jar of the stuff from them. Adds just the right amount of moisture and tang to go from "Yum" to "Homer Simpson drooling good".
According to what I've read about this film, Disney didn't want Luisa to be... bulky, I guess is the word. They wanted her strong but not big. Then they made a bunch of Isabela merch and much less of Luisa. The problem is, the Luisa merch is flying off the shelves; the Isabela, not so much.

@@secularmonk5176 I think in this specific case it also has to do with Isabella being kind of an asshole towards Mirabel in the beginning. And Luisa is just cool which means that shes much more likeable than the beautiful princess that Disney puts in every movie.
@@Serryy Yeah. Also, can't really expect most kids to understand WHY Isabella's so mean. I feel it requires a little more critical thinking to understand the complexities and insecurities behind her character, which aren't as easily readable and digestible as Luisa's. This particular reaction shows that even with adults, it takes more time and attention to be able to pierce through the veil of her 'mean girl' schtick.
Sooo let me get this straight disney did the exact same thing with Luisa that they did with Elsa xD haha its the exact same story
@@noodlecat_ well, except for different reasons. They thought Elsa would be seen as kind of a villain (basically what _actually_ happened to Isabella), but they fully did not realize Luisa would mean much of anything to anyone.
what is it about Pepe & Félix's offspring that make them the perfect information gathering team - Dolores hears the secrets, Camilo can infiltrate anywhere, and the whole animal kingdom can be spies for Antonio.
All the extent powers would be useful if the Encanto were ever attacked by more invaders.
@@b.f.2461 oh, I agree. Isabella and Luisa alone can fight off armies (I wonder if Antonio would risk his animal friends). I just thought it was funny that one side of the family seems designed to accrue informaition.
"I wonder if the kid in the beginning who said her power was denial, if that's like a foreshadow of the whole family" what the fuck how to you manage such a great analysis why didn't i figure it out sooner god dammit
depending on how you see it everyones "gift" can be spun as a curse
Peppa is going insane from lack of sleep and the strain of having to constantly push down her emotions.
Julietta is the one EVERYONE counts on to heal their injuries
Bruno was driven to depression, self isolation and cabin feaver becuse the whole town hated and despised him for "making bad things happen"
Luisa always gets tasked with doing all the heavy lifting and no one ever thanks her, they just expect her to she will do it.
Isabela was Almas favorite (becuse she ses herself and the life she could have lived in her), is forced to be pretty and never express any scence of personallity. In the dinner scen when she grews pink flowers after Dolores teases her Alma casualy pluckes of the single white flower among the pink, once again signaling to Isa that good enougth is not good enougth.
Dolores hears everything and is there for not only burdened by never having a quiet moment but also to not tell anyone that Bruno never left (and watch Alma blame Mirabel for it). The reason she never told anyone (before Mirabel) is becuse they don´t talk about bruno. She tells everyone about his visionat the dinner table becuse thatsnot tecnically talking about him, it´s about Mirabel.
Antonio hears that Bruno never left as soon as he gwt his gift butis bound to silence as well.
The only one that´s really "spared"from a curse narrative is Camillo, but hemust have feelt soguilt that he got a gift when Mirabel didn´t (they are only a few months apart if I remember correctly). He saw how close they where when Mirabel was younger andit must have feelt horrible seeing how she was just pushed to the side after that.
Camillo is also the onlyone trying to save Mirabel with his gift not the candle.
Something cool someone else pointed out was that Mirabel ends up doing/helping others do everything she sings about in "waiting for a miracle".
She moves the mountains (well they crack but still)
She helps Isa see her value and that her power is more than just growing flowers, resulting in
growing trees and other plants .
I don´t remember the controling the hurricane thing I belive it was that she is the only one Casita dosn´t push out becuse she is determend to save the candle (tus "controling the hurricane
She heals whats broken (the family)
AND she makes Alma open her eyes to the pain she has caused.
Dos Orguitas is the Oscar song. And even though Bruno is the number one hit in the land, this one hits SO HARD. Two caterpillars in love, but they have to separate in order to chrysalis. Think the legend of the Butterfly Lovers in China.
It's my favourite song from this movie. It makes me emotional the way I expect from a Disney movie and it has so much meaning. It ties together all the strings on why Abuela became the way she is now and yet shows the other side of hers, in a time where she was just as full of wonder and hope as her grandkids are now.
What I love the most about this movie is that there is no villain. The Abuela may be an antagonist for a time, but in general, this movie is about a family with problems, trying to cope with them.
No super complicated, no last minute villains, no plot twist that takes the movie to another direction, is all about the family.
I remember watching this and finding one of the most expressive characters in the movie was the Casita and thinking the Casita was the spirit of Pedro. It looks after the family and protects them when the house falls apart like how Pedro protected the family before he died. It would also explain why Maribel didn’t get a room as Maribels gift is taking care of the family, like Pedro, so her ’room’ is the entire house.
I think Luisa's emotional breakdowns were meant to be less comedic than they kept portraying it. I mean, me as an audience can decide how to react to wjat a character does. But it seems like all her moments where she showed weakness, it's played out like a funny scene meant to be laughed at. Not every moment, but most of them.
My theory about this is that Mirabel was / is intended by the Magic to take over after her grandmother as the caretaker of the house / candle. Remember the grandmother herself has no special powers except that her love for her husband ignited the candle. That's why Mirabel's "door" is the Front Door of the house. (Ah. Posted b efore I watched your reaction :) )
I'm pretty sure everyone who has watched this movie figured that out.
@@realsies9387 Enough people were disappointed "She didn't get a power" that I doubt it.
@@beardedgeek973 idk, to me to just seemed very obvious that she took her place as the head of the family at the end. Guess I haven't really looked into other peoples opinions too much. Just everyone I know that has seen the movie thinks the same thing.
"The McCallisters doorknob"
Dude, no! That was too damn funny I nearly hurt myself.
Mirabelle’s gift is similar to characters like PT Barnum from the Greatest Showman: the ability to turn any conversation into a musical number. :)
No. Fraulein Maria did it first.
With the animation, it is on an amazing level - during the strong sister's song when she says "I glow cause I know what my worth is", if you look at her shoulders, it even has the textures of fine soft short hairs that real skin has. This is some of the finest detail work I have seen - oh, and the sound is spatially correct so as someone who is singing or speaking moves to the right or left the voice does so too.
Now I am wondering how long before there is a Broadway production of this because it would work perfectly on stage [ok, flying unicorn donkeys might need a bit of change in representation, but.....]
At first, Mirabel was so happy for Antonio, her cousin (9:10), and his gift of talking to animals (8:39) (all thanks to the love she feels for him), but when the rest of her family takes the family photo without her (9:24), her smile...disappears (9:22)
I've got "We don't talk about Bruno" fever 😭 ooh and also many might know this but the part where they all song their lines together in the end is called "Madrigal"
So, I've heard this go around about Bruno's green, that is his main colour is the Disney's "Go Away Green", a colour they supposedly designed to keep visible things hidden or hard to focus on.
They would use this at Disney parks to hide structures, staff doors and other parts that would be considered displeasing to the eye.
Bruno is not the run away family member, but the hidden one. Disney used a colour that is distinctly him but also makes him hard to find. If you look carefully in promotional posters, you may even spot him with his hood up and looking away... well it's either Bruno or Hernando, I'm not sure.
She has the gift of hugs! :D
.
But seriously, a surprisingly deep film about relatively small-stakes family drama that so many of us can relate to AND it has amazing music and culture? This film is to good for us.
Isabella's song really got to me when I first watched this movie. I actually identified a lot with that character, being expected to be perfect and hit all these high expectations when all you really want to do is be left alone to make your art. Isabella is also potentially the strongest character, she could ensure a constant supply of food and a good harvest, but she's being asked to make things look pretty. no one could see what she could really do. she's also really mean to Mirabel because she feels like she's being punched down on. honestly, as the youngest child/bottom member of my not always so nice family, I get it.
Lin Manuel Miranda wrote the music. Hamilton, In the Heights, Moana, Tick Tick Boom(Directed the movie)
Don’t forget Vivo Which he was in as a kinkajou
I’d forgotten his name, but as soon as I looked it up and saw Hamilton, I was all “oh *that’s* why the music was so jam-packed, it all makes sense now”.
Stephanie Beatriz plays Mirabel. It's so funny to me how unrecognisable she is from her character on Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
Could you cover Wall-E? It's one of Pixar's all time best!
That movie and Brother Bear are Incredibly underrated
Also Inside Out....and oooh oooh "Grave of the Fireflies"
I would watch this and then they have to do Hello Dolly, the underrated musical film that was featured and no one EVER checks out!
Ah yes, having to migrate for a sociopolitical conflict while losing a family member to end up living in a house crumbling down and filled with rats with a family in wich all members have anxiety. TRULY THE LATINAMERICAN EXPERIENCE!
Yours truly, another latino who loved this film.
Oh one more thing... during "We don't talk about Bruno"... Not only do you see Bruno standing on the second floor balcony bopping his head to the song, but Dolores is talking about HIM, not the boyfriend coming for dinner when she keeps saying "I can hear him" and "I can hear him right now" when the other family members in the background prepare for the boyfriend and his family in the last quarter of the song.
This has got to be my new favorite Disney movie. The story, the animation, the characters and the music are all just fantastic 😍👍
"What kind of economical damage would this cause" YES! THANK you! Like, some of these "gifts" are a NIGHTMARE. "Sorry, we can't guarantee a crop, a local deity (because they basically are) might be in a good mood during the growing season and the crops won't get enough water".
I really like that the town helps rebuild the house as repayment cause I excepted it to be really cliche and as soon as they made up the house would rebuild itself or something
her power is creating song sequences that pull people into song against their will and don't realize it's happening XD
I saw this in the theater with my wife and her mom and we had the whole theater to ourselves, it was awesome
Speaking of talking animal comics, there's a classic Far Side comic where an inventor was able to invent a dog translator but all they say was "Hey! Hey! Hey!"
One of Robin Williams last roles was as the voice of a dog Simon Pegg wished could talk. He didn't wish for it to be smarter though so he just constantly asks for treats and recommends that he hump his girlfriend.

I love how your "oh" was right on beat for the song.
Everyone loves the we don't talk about Bruno song, but I think Surface Pressure is so much better. Also this was the first animated movie to cover ALL textures and styles of hair because they have the animation technology now.
I love how they hit on 3 different cultural weak spots of looking out for the family:
1. The expectation to just be strong and whiteknuckle it.
2. The expectation to be perfect and do what makes the family happy.
3. Disowning the disappointment and keep them out of sight to preserve tha family's honor.
Just got finished watching the full reaction to this and it's an amazing movie/reaction! Super enjoyed this. :)
I love the fact that Bruno has been parkouring across that gap for at least a decade now.
I absolutely love this movie, The family Madrigal and We don't talk about Bruno our the only 2 songs I didn't cry... The message of this movie is incredible!
I came here for the Encanto reaction, but now I'm obsessed with George's LOTR T-Shirt. Genius!
I think is without any doubt the best Disney Movie EVER. Amazing
Yo this movie is an instant classic. My heart felt this deep bro
In the song we don't talk about Bruno, did you notice Bruno was on the balcony in Delores's room while she was singing her part at the beginning of the song
Dolores.*
Actually I think that is camillo as Bruno
@@corvacks8924 nope its Bruno, Camilo shape shifts he has no reason to sit up there and dance as bruno the whole time waiting for his part. Camilo doesn't even stay as Bruno during his part if the song he switches back each time he stops talking
Me, seeing ‘Encanto reaction’: *clicks*
Me, seeing the CR shirt and the LotR shirt: these are my kind of people
Thank you for showing the telenovela joke, i love it. 😂
It's so sad when you think about the fact that Alma/abuela is Bruno's mom... And he's hiding from her in the hallway before Mirabel talks to Isabela. Poor Bruno. Being the black sheep hurts
The fact so many people who watch this movie talk about absolutely crying non stop at Luisas surface pressure song makes me so happy that it wasn't only me who felt that way, yet it also makes me feel so heartwrenched that's how so many people felt, that they couldn't stop crying because they related so much, and one of my absolutely favorite stories is of a mother who was watching this with her daughter and while she was in tears she turned to her daughter to see how she related to it and she saw she was just enjoying the song, in that moment she realized her daughter didn't have the same burdens and trauma she did, she said the cycle ended with her, and that was heartwrenching and heartwarming
“The thing with Disney.. their villains are always green”
*cackling intensifies*
My almost 4 year old son has found his first crush in this movie Isabelle and dropped his first F bomb when the house breaks
Fyi; mirabelle is playing Lady Kima of Vord. 🤩
When I clicked on the video I wasn’t expecting two reactors !!! Omg two for one holy hell !
I've watched this movie so many times and I stupidly never connected the fact that _the grandmother doesn't have a gift, either._ Y'all saying Meribel is leading the family in the new front door made me realize that she probably didn't receive a gift from the miracle because she's eventually supposed to take over for the grandmother. Huh.
Mirabel is the candle. It was the candle that brought magic and miracle to the house the first time with Abuela .. And in absence of the candle, Mirabel, the human candle fixes it.The whole house is her room. And The reason Mirabel didn't get a gift is because she is the gift.
Thanks for this reaction 🥰
Keep up the awesome content! 🙏
Loved it keep them coming please don't forget about part 3 of back to the future
Yup, been waiting for it a long time....
That was my favorite song too. A lot of people like the Bruno song the most, but the beat of Surface Pressure is better in my mind. They are all great though.
Also, I agree with your one statement about how Mirabel was taking over for her Abuela. Notice how when the magic came back there was no candle still. I think Mirabel is the new candle. My opinion is that her Abuela viewed the magic given to them as an obligation whereas Mirabel always viewed it as a gift. So by taking the magic off her Abuela's hands, she lightens the load on her so she can enjoy her life and her family while Mirabel does what she loves most, helping her family.
Surface Pressure was my favorite song too! So many good songs though, I really love them all. Thanks for your reactions!
One of the things that I’ve noticed (that no one else has commented on) is that right before Waiting For A Miracle, when her family goes to take a photo, she doesn’t move. She doesn’t even try to get into the photo, and if you look carefully at the other family photos, she’s not in any of them. Meaning, someone, likely Abuela, asked her to step aside before. Her missing out on family photos was purposeful and not accidental like it seems.
Thank you for showing me a glimpse of this movie. What a treat!
I think that the reason for the animals putting the vision together was because of Antonio, everyone's powers were mulfunctioning and when Antonio also found out what was going on her probably unintentionally made the animals do that... That's just my theory tho
Good review! Glad I found the channel!
I absolutely loved your reaction guys
Mirabell's gift is she can slide down a freaking sand dune on her face without scratching her glasses!
Did you notice the times Bruno was in the background of certain scenes?
Hello I’m here to both appreciate the reaction and the bronze dragonflight reaction
Now I need a breakdown video about the kinds of economical damage these powers would cause
The bready round thing is made of corn and yes, it has cheese inside, we call them Arepas.... you should really go get one as they are delicious.
19:21 whole family being in denial, never thought of that but that is so true!!
Beautifil animation. I love this film. No hablar de Bruno y al final fue uno de los mejores personajes. Saludos
Yesss you should make arepas!!! They’re not too hard to make and taste sooo good! Love your channel :)
5:52 I'mm getting RPG flashbacks...I once played in a superhero game, where i was the only one without any powers...but evenually it turned out that mine were...unobrusive, hard to notice, passive/unconscious powers, that I had no control over, but that turned out to be mighty in the course of time. I wonder if that's what's going on with this lady.
24:07 “Is the idea that she’s going to replace grandma?”
Precisely.
To be fair, alma never saw what bruno saw, she only saw Mirabel not getting her powers and her son dissapaird "becuse of it".
Yeah my first thought was trying to find the food as well. I believe they are Arepas de Queso?
They were two main foods the mom made:
Buñuelos (the 'ñ' is hard to describe to non native spanish speakers, but it sounds a bit like the 'Gn' in Gnocchi): The orangy ball thingies.
Arepas: the white one filled with cheese.
Arepas are quite common both in Colombia and neighbour Venezuela (where i come from), is basically a form of corn based bread. Buñuelos are fried dough made from tapioca (yuca in Latin America).
Alan Tudyk plays the Toucan
I love how we can all just refer to "the mouse" and know exactly what you're talking about. lol
I think Mirabel's gift was to see what others couldn't: Luisa stressed out, needing a hug; Isabela's obssession with perfection and helping her pass that, she was what they needed to open their eyes, accept themselves and each other, help and grow together... she was the new magic of the family
