Omg what a fail, somehow I had the comments disabled?!
One thing I noticed in the scene where the house is crumbling, all the other kids who tried to save the candle relied solely on their gifts to do so. They didn’t know how to act without them, so they were lost when they’re gifts disappeared. Mirabel on the other hand relies solely on her own strength and her relationship with casita.
Oooooh I didn’t think of that!!! Yes, their gifts were 100% their identities and that’s all they knew… 😩
@@NiaMakiReacts Another thing is that Bruno said the vision was out of order and the first thing we saw was the butterfly that we see in Abuela moment with her on the river and after this it shows isabella , so it means that to save the miracle she had to make peace with Isabella and abuela... another thing is that i think the cerimony to receive the powers worked and Mirabel become the owner of the miracle and the Candle is feed by mirabel heart it represents her heart , when she hug Isabella her heart was healed and the house got back to normal but when her heart was broken by abuela the house break too... You can see that everything connected to the house is connected with Mirabel...

And, all the families colors kind of coordinate. But at the beginning of the movie she kind of matches abuela more than anyone

Well that's not entirely true. Bruno showed off some crazy parkour moves too when he was running from Mirabel.
Fun fact, the woman who plays Mirabelle recorded Waiting on Miracle while in labor. Mirabelle is probably a little resentful of Isabella's "perfection" and projects her insecurities onto her. And Isabella is definitely annoyed by Mirabella's imperfection - because she's projecting her own fears of being less-than-perfect onto Mirabelle. Mirabelle reminds Issabella of what could happen to her if she's not perfect. They're mirroring each other's projections, creating a cage for each other.

In one of the books, Isabela says she is jealous of Mirabel's freedom, that nothing is expected from her while everything is expected from Isabela
One thing a lot of people miss is that Alma and Pedro were fleeing a civil war. And fifty years later the war was starting up again. If the Encanto fails the entire village, which is descended from refugees, is vulnerable again. And there weren't any therapists to help with the trauma (until Mirabel, who I think heals minds the way her mom heals bodies)
Umm In reality it's not a civil war it is armed conflict, something that here in my country unfortunately we're still experiencing due to the paramilitary and it has been going on for a looong time. What they did experience was that they were forced to flee as the paramilitary were taking that town for their territory. There is a lot of displaced people that were or are forced to flee into the cities because of that
Well, Mirabelle did get a gift, its just more subtle, she is the new Miracle holder, just like Abuela, and her door is the front door
23:20 I wish we got more of Camilo because when he said "What about Antonio? What's he gonna do?" that showed me he really cares about his brother. Antonio hadn't even had his gift for a week and he'd lost it. I feel like if we had more of Camilo, the pressure he probably would have felt would be losing his sense of self from pretending to be other people all the time or the pressure of keeping everyone laughing and smiling. Like there's a lyric in "The Family Madrigal" that says "My primo Camilo won't stop until he makes you smile today." I feel like that's a lot, to keep everyone happy even when you yourself might not feel that way.

Camillo does that too wit Pepa. When she's upset after the dinner during Mirabelle's chase in the walls we see him trying to calm down his mother. He's definitely the one trying to manage everyone's emotions.
The part that always gets me is when the entire town rallys together to help the Madrigal's rebuild their house, in that way repaying them for all they've done for the community.
Yesss, and now it’s actually a community, not a 1 way relationship ❤️ so many great messages in this movie
The way you immediately pick up on so many things - downsides to everyone’s powers, Isabella looking like Abuela and feeling that pressure, etc. 🎉
Grandma was given a magic candle, but no instruction manual ...and a whole lot of ptsd that turned into generational trauma, as often happen with survivors of dramatic events and conflicts.
she was probably terrified to lose the magic, afraid of doing something that might hurt the magic or make her or her family unworthy of it...especially so when the candle faltered a first time when Mirabel didn't get her gift.
she saw mirabel as a sign that the magic might leave them... then Bruno leaves... and for years, she has nothing to hold on to but the candle... and mirabel is still there, powerless... living proof that Alma doesn't know what will happen and has no real control over the big things.. so she tries to control the behaviour of everybody else, to keep the worth of the family and it's role in the village up to impossible standards...
When Antonio was bricking it in fear of suffering the same fate of Mirabel, Alma was probably having the same fears.
Alma never let go of her grief for Pedro until the end of the movie, when she finally lets go of the black shawl.
Ahhh I don’t think I paid enough attention to her letting go of the black shawl. I totally agree. I saw memes about grandma being toxic but… she’s human and isn’t perfect, just like all of us. Honestly if we can make a movie about just grandma too cause I feel like her story had a lot going on too, but in the end she got closure
No, MIrabel didn't get a Gift, per se. However, Abuela Alma never got a Gift, either; instead, she was the Guardian of the miracle. Casita - which, according to Disney, is the embodiment of Abuelo Pedro - knew that Mirabel was destined to inherit the mantle of Guardian, which is why her potential door disappeared during her Gift ceremony. Her true door was the door of the whole house, as we see at the end of 'All of You'.
I'm glad you caught the Doctor Who reference. A lot of people miss that and the Mission: Impossible reference.

@@NiaMakiReacts Early in each episode, after the prologue, Jim Phelps (Peter Graves, from season 2 onwards) would find a small tape recorder in some obscure place on which was a message about the upcoming mission. Each message ended with 'This tape will self-destruct in 5 seconds...', and at the end of the countdown, smoke would emerge from the recorder, indicating that the tape had melted down, dissolved in acid, or whatever. I've never been terribly interested in the movies, but I do like re-watching the assorted TV incarnations. some of which are available here on YT, if you care to check them out.

@@NoThankUBeQuiet The scriptwriters added as an in-joke, expecting people to get the reference. Same with the Doctor Who reference, where his time ship, the TARDIS, was bigger on the inside.
my personal theory is that casita refused mirabelle because of abuela, but accepted antonio because of mirabelle. abuela taught mirabelle that the gift was the most important thing she could have, while mirabelle taught antonio that it didn't matter and he would always be loved.
Honestly I'm so glad that you don't automatically villanize grandma, like yes she was hard on them and yes she made mistakes, but she also apologized plus you also noticed that you also shows that she is trying toremain strong for the village.
she is a person just like all of us, and I do really feel for her... even at her age she owned up to it and tried to fix things... I think thought that was great

I heard people say pepa "didn't like bruno" 😭😭...actually I think that she Missed him so so much and was so sad but she was just covering it up with anger and bad emotions because she can handle it more because when he came back she hugged him so she didn't dislike him she just Missed him to much also I heard that when someone tells you to leave or says they don't need help it means they need the person more so....💖🖤😭

You asked how Dolores's super hearing could help the village. If there is trouble, she can hear it from miles away and can warn the village before the catastrophe hits it.
The theory is that Isabela looks so much like her grandma, the grandmother wanted to give her the perfect life that was taken from her

Sometimes i got misunderstood just like Bruno, trying to be perfect just like Isabella being the fav child, carrying family burden like Luisa, and sometimes felt left out and worthless just like Mirable. At the end i’m still tryna heal like Abuela did :)

I totally feel that, Antonio would be nice through, to have an awesome sister like Mirabel...
What Abuela needed to really understand was that the real miracle is the family. The magical gifts are just an extension of the family and Abuela was relying too much on it.

What i noticed after a couple times of watching it is that lil Mirabel wiped her hands after touching the candle, but before touching her doorknob. I think that the magic was inside her, and when she touched the doorknob at the end, it transferred once more.
Mirabel and Abuela are the most powerful, they are the keepers of the magic, without them there is no more encanto. The theory is that Mirabel was given abuelas power because abuela would soon be departing and therefore Mirabel is then the one to keep the family going as it is shown in the film that she was worthy of abuelas powers by uniting them.
I'm 5 minutes in and you've already identified multiple burdens those "gifts" bring lol as someone who has seen the film already, I'm quite impressed.
It only occured to me that the scene where Antonio interupts the conversation between Mirabel and Bruno, is probably the first time Antonio and Bruno have met. Bruno has been hiding in the walls for 10 years since he read Mirabel's fortune

I think Mirabella has a gift too. not everyone seen it. but she can control the miracle. when she's heartbroken miracle (the house and others gifts) is going to crack. when she's happy miracle was safe. That's why Bruno has that vision. when Mirabella and Grandma had the final argument, she reached her emotional level and hurt so much that the house was broken. after she healed everyone's hearts and herself, when she touched the doorknob miracle is back because of her. I don't think anyone can do it except her. (again Bruno's vision, that's why she needed to hug her sister, to heal herself and save the miracle)
Grandma has a gift too. she is the source of the miracle. her room has the magic candle and it's like she is the keeper of miracle. I think after Grandma, Mirabell is going to be the keeper of the miracle.

Funfact Mirabelle is voiced by the actress who plays Rosa in Brooklyn 99. Mirabelle is closer to her real voice which makes the role of Rosa so much more impressive!

Really loved this one and you talk about not being able to articulate your thoughts, I find you saw through this so quickly and called everything about family trauma generational and current. If you are looking for another movie like this CoCo I think was kinda in the same lines.

In my family I am the one who looks like grandma and I also have her name but there are so many of us that there is really no room for any sort of golden child.

So Abuela and now Mirabelle did had a Gift, technically 2
The first is the house itself, note that Casita follows Abuela and Mirabelle orders above others, with others it helps them, but not to the level it does with Abuela and Mirabelle
The second is in turn the Miracle itself, the Gift to give Gifts
Technically speaking, the reason Mirabelle didnt recive a door initially was cause a simple room could not suffice, the passing of the torch was the house itself, and in the end, the front door became Mirabelle's door
We only see two characters giving orders to Casita or engaging in dialogue with Casita, and those characters were Abuela and Mirabel. My personal theory is that Mirabel didn't get a room, she got the Miracle. We know the Madrigals age normally (powers when coming of age, Dos Oruguitas, 50 years since the miracle, three generations in Casita). So at some point in time, Abuela will rejoin Abuelo Pedro in the afterlife. Mirabel inherits the role of Head of the Family. Her powers, her focus, has been the family her whole life. Make my family proud. Mirabel has learned how to face life where her Gift is her Family. Not some magical candle. She was trained to assume Abuela's role running the (new) Casita for the next 50 years, now that the whole family has learned to place their ordinary sister/cousin at the Center of the Miracle of Family, not on the outside. Abuela's successor and the next Miracle Keeper, Mirabel, has been chosen and annointed. Abuelo Pedro sent Abuela the magic and assistance needed to keep the Family going. Luisa is not the only strong woman in that family who now gets to learn how to relax a little.

I don't think that the spouses and Mirabelle has the same circumstances. Mirabelle was expected to have powers but didn't get it. She would feel left out, wonder why it happened only to her but also how most of the people treat her.
