There's another advantage to articling exemptions. If you're currently working a $100k USD job in, for instance, the US, as a US lawyer and don't want to get cut down to a $38k CAD per year job for a year, it makes sense to get an articling exemption. Then, you can get licensed and start looking for a full-time permanent job in Canada as a lawyer without losing $60k USD per year in income that you can never get back. Most lawyers who are making good money in their country cannot afford to simply leave their job paying six figures per year to take a $60k USD per year pay cut, so if you require people to do that, there are a lot of people that won't even try. I'm one of these people. If I had to do articling in Ontario, I wouldn't even be trying to get my US degree accredited there. My wife and two kids couldn't survive on me making $38k CAD per year. There's just no way.

Hi, thank you for all your videos, can you please advise if you had to take immigration law courses inorder to become an immigration lawyer. I am taking the core NCA courses and i also want to specialize in immigration but none of my current courses are connected to immigration law. Looking forward to your response. Thank you.

Hello, I have been following and seeing your videos since more than a month. I am a lawyer pass out from India in 2019 with a second class which maybe something around 48-50% on average and right now doing Paralegal diploma from Durham college. I wanted to ask you that will my low percentage in LLB degree reject my assessment done by NCA? I would also like to inform you that I have been working as a legal intern for over 2years under a lawyer in India while I was studying LLB.
I appreciate all your help and all your videos have given me a brief of how to proceed with the assessment!!
I loved it, thank you for all your help.

What about some ITLs never securing an articling position at all? I know a number of ITLs who gave up their dream of becoming lawyers after failing to secure an articling position because they didn’t have “Canadian experience”.

You can always do the Law Practice Program in Ontario if you can't find articling.
